  • In order to evaluate objectively the level of tension and relaxation in dental practices, the author used Biotrainer(BF-102R), one of the GSR biofeedback apparatus, to examine 119 dental outpatients on their changes of GSR due to infection, preparation, extraction and readjustment. The obtained results were as follows : 1. There were no differences in the baseline GSR between the control group and the patient groups. 2. Changes in GSR by practices were significantly larger than the baseline GSR. 3. GSR in female was larger than that in male 4. While the GSR after injection, preparation and extraction revealed lower level, the GSR after readjustment revealed higher level. 5. Most of subjects just after injection, preparation and extraction were more frequent in decrease of GSR and those just after readjustment more were frequent n increase of GSR. 6. Type 1,2(increase in skin resistance) showed greater in injection, preparation and extraction group, while type 3(decrease in skin resistance) did in readjustment group.

  • In this study, an experiment was conducted in order to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of and on-line subjective assessment (OLSA) system. The present study compared Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) with the OLSA by presenting 28 subjects in their 20s with pictures arousing either positive or negative sensibility. According to the correlation coefficients, changes in subjective sensibility caused by the positive visual stimulus were related more closely to GSR, from the positive visual stimulus, and changes in subjective sensibility caused by the negative visual stimulus were related more closely to GSR from the negative visual stimulus. In conclusion, the most remarkable characteristic of the present system is that it not only assesses the average sensibility when stimuli are presented, but also shows the changing strength of sensibility over time.

  • In this paper, we implemented a LED sensitivity illumination system, being driven in response to changes in the biological signals of GSR and PPG signal. After measuring biological signals of a human body from GSR and PPG sensor modules, MCU decided the state of relaxation or arousal of the subject, being based on the wake relaxation identifying map proposed in this paper. A developed LED sensitivity illumination system makes the subject to reach a normal state by giving a change of the LED illumination color, corresponding to a state of the subject.

  • Recently A virtual environment provides patient with stimuli which arouses phobia, and exposing to that environment makes him having ability to over come the fear. ECG and HRV are used in most virtual reality system. GSR is electrical impedance of biological tissues and the changes in impedance accompanying physiological activity. GSR is better than ECG or HRV for explaining mental states in other study. In this study, we will analysis GSR signal when a acrophobia patient and a normal is on high floor.

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the impact of cognitive factors and GSR on the task performance. For this study 64 students participated. Multiple regression and repeated measures were applied to analyze the data. The result for the survey indicated that previous knowledge, physical efforts, and task difficulty had significant impacts on task performance. Particularly, task difficulty has a negative impact. This can be interpreted as someone who has high prior knowledge inputs higher physical efforts with low task difficulty perception will show high performance. On the other hand, the low arousal level of GSR in the evaluation stage is a prediction variable of task performance. This result shows that high prior knowledge and low arousal level of GSR produces high performance. However, the analysis of difference in GSR between learning and evaluation stages does not show significant difference. It suggests that physiological measure such as GSR is reliable index of cognitive load; however, it partially represents cognitive load. Other crucial factors should be added for comprehensive measures.

  • Despite evidence from adults that stimulus incongruity increased arousal level, there have been no published reports demonstrating this relationship with children. Therefore, the present study was done to 1) investigate the relationship between the introduction of stimulus incongruity and children's arousal level, using the GSR as an index of arousal; 2) determine whether age difference among subjects would affect the magnitude of the effect of incongruity on GSR ; and 3) determine the feasility of using the GSR with young children, particularly when manipulating a variable considered to involve only modest increase in arousal. The results were: 1) The incongrous outcome of two brief stories increased the arousal level of the subjects in the present study 2) The effect was related primarily in the GSR arousal scores of adult subjects. The smaller or nonexistent reactions to incongruity by the children represent essentially new results, as little or previous research exists involving the arousal level of young children to visual or auditorily presented stimuli. Several possibilities regarding the failure of the incongruity to generate arousal in the young children were considered Methodolog both in using GSR as an index of arousal level and in developing visual or audio stimuli involving incongruity was discussed.

  • An oil spill model, Green Sea Ranger(GSR) based on trajectory and fate modeling of spilt oil behavior is introduced. The various physical models on weathering processes are reviewed and those adopted by GSR are described. A database for currents, which is necessary for the real-time simulation of oil spill, is generated on the south sea of Korea. The real-time prediction of tidal currents in the South Sea of Korea is carried out. Four major constituents (M₂, S₂, K₁, O₁ tide) are employed in the prediction, and those angular speeds and phases are determined from the astronomical arguments. The harmonic constants of the constituents are computed by solving shallow-water tide equations. The GSR has user-freiendly GUI and flexible framework which makes it easy to expand the database for sea environments in Korean coastal waters. The GSR is validated by the simulation of O-Sung oil spill caused by a grounded oil tanker in coastal sea near Maemol-do. The simulated trajectory is compared with observed one and it is shown that the GSR gives reasonable estimation on spilt oil bahavior.

  • Primer gunsot residues (GSR) obtained from K1A and K2 rifles, and K5 pistol were analysed with scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM-EDX) as basic data in firearm accidents. Ammunition of 5.56 mm is employed for K1A and K2 rifles and 9.0 mm for a K5 pistol. The analyses of morphology, size, particle number, elemental ratio were performed for primer GSR prepared after shooting 3 times. The detected content was Ba>Pb>Sb in most GSR particles but Sb>Pb>Ba or Pb>Sb>Ba in some particles. In the statistical result of composition ratio of elements, the particles with more Sb than Ba were detected in most primer GSR from a K5 pistol, 3~8 times more than K1A and K2 rifles. This results can be employed to discriminate gun type between rifles and pistols. Furthermore, the size and the number of particles can be applied to access the type of guns.
