In this paper, we propose a transformation scheme used to analyze online gaming traffic properties and develop a traffic model. We analyze the packet size and the inter departure time distributions of a popular first-person shooter game (Left 4 Dead) and a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (World of Warcraft) in order to compare them to the existing scheme. Recent online gaming traffic is erratically distributed, so it is very difficult to analyze. Therefore, our research focuses on a transformation scheme to obtain new smooth patterns from a messy dataset. It extracts relatively heavy-weighted density data and then transforms them into a corresponding dataset domain to obtain a simplified graph. We compare the analytical model histogram, the chi-square statistic, and the quantile-quantile plot of the proposed scheme to an existing scheme. The results show that the proposed scheme demonstrates a good fit in all parts. The chi-square statistic of our scheme for the Left 4 Dead packet size distribution is less than one ninth of the existing one when dealing with erratic traffic.
The study of game traffic has neglected by scientists, but as Internet gaming becomes more popular, multiplayer online games have become a significant element of Internet traffic. In this paper we analyze Internet traffic generated by sessions of multiplayer online games and study source models of multiplayer online game traffic. Our analysis shows that the empirical game traffic can be characterized by certain analytical model. We describe how our empirical traffic data set can be modeled and discuss how game server type influences interarrival distribution.

Technological advancements such as artificial intelligence, robots, and big data are revolutionizing the entire society. In this paper, we analyzed preliminary teachers' daily internet/gaming/smartphone habit and the difference between preference factors in gender and diagnosis group in the situation of ethical dilemma in driverless cars. The result shows most of the male students are in high risk group of daily internet/gaming usage, and male students tend to be more immersed in games compared to female students, which negatively affects their daily lives. Students who have at least one of the daily internet/gaming/smartphone habits are more likely to be classified as high-risk group in all three of daily internet/gaming/smartphone habit. Fortunately, the students perceived themselves addicted and wanted change their habits. An analysis by a moral machine of these students tells that there is no significant difference in preference between male and female students and among diagnosis groups. However, specifically in the ethical dilemma of driverless cars, all the groups of male, female, normal, high-risk showed they have priority in pedestrians over drivers, a large number of people over small, and people who obey traffic rules over who do not. The tendency was pronounced in female group and high-risk students prioritized people who are older and in lower social status.
Opportunistic routing (OR) has been proposed as a viable approach to improve the performance of wireless multihop networks with lossy links. However, the exponential growth of the bandwidth-sensitive mobile traffic (e.g., mobile video streaming and online gaming) poses a great challenge to the performance of OR in term of bandwidth guarantee. To solve this problem, a novel mechanism is proposed to opportunistically forwarding data packets and provide bandwidth guarantee for the bandwidth-sensitive traffic. The proposal exploits the broadcast characteristic of wireless transmission and reduces the negative effect of wireless lossy links. First, the expected available bandwidth (EAB) and the expected transmission cost (ETC) under OR are estimated based on the local available bandwidth, link delivery probability, forwarding candidates, and prioritization policy. Then, the policies for determining and prioritizing the forwarding candidates is devised by considering the bandwidth and transmission cost. Finally, bandwidth-aware routing algorithm is proposed to opportunistically delivery data packets; meanwhile, admission control is applied to admit or reject traffic flows for bandwidth guarantee. Extensive simulation results show that our proposal consistently outperforms other existing opportunistic routing schemes in providing performance guarantee.

A study on network traffic analysis and modeling has been exclusively done due to its importance. However, conventional studies on network traffic analysis and modeling only focus on transmitting simple packet stream or traffic features of specific application, such as HTTP. In this paper, we propose a network traffic generator, which reflects the characteristics of multimedia data. To analyze the traffics of online game, which is one of the most popular multimedia contents, we modeled the distribution according to the time between packets and packet size random variable and designed the traffic generator which has the model for input. We generated the traffics of L4D(Left4Dead), WoW(World of Warcraft) with proposed network traffic generator and we found that the generated traffics have similar distributions with real data.

As a demand for high speed uplink packet services increases, the WCDMA enhanced uplink, also known as high speed uplink packet access (HSUPA), has been specified in release 6 by 3GPP. This HSUPA will provide various types of multimedia services, such as real-time video streaming, gaming, VoIP, and FTP. Generally, the performance of HSUPA is dominated by scheduling policy. Therefore, it is required to design a scheduling algorithm considering the traffic characteristics to provide QoS guaranteed services in various traffic environments. In this paper, we propose a scheduling algorithm considering the traffic characteristics to guarantee QoS in a mixed traffic environment. Finally, the performance of the proposed scheduling algorithm is evaluated in terms of average packet delay, packet delay jitter, and system throughput using a system level simulator.

Recently, the proliferation of new applications, e.g., mobile TV, Internet gaming, large file transfer, and the various of user terminals, e.g., smart phones and notebooks, has dramatically increased user traffic and network load. In order to meet this traffic growth, vendors and cellular operators are working on the development of new technologies and cellular standards. Within them, small cell deployment has been heralded as one of most promising way to increase both coverage and capacity of future cellular network. Small cell technology enables to improve capacity of cellular radio network by tight cooperation between small cell and macro cell in multi-tier network where small cells are densely deployed within macro cell coverage. In this paper, we describe the deployment scenarios for cooperation between macro cell and small cells and state-of-the-art technologies related to dense small cell deployment. Then, we also provide design principles and standardization trends for small cell enhancement in 3GPP.

Enterprises that develop online games have to deploy supporting infrastructures, including hardware and bandwidth resources, in order to provide a good service to users. First Person Shooter games generate high rates of small UDP packets from the client to the server, so the overhead is significant. This work analyzes a method that saves bandwidth, by the addition of a local agent which queues packets, compresses headers and uses a tunnel to send a number of packets within a multiplexed packet. The behavior of the system has been studied, showing that significant bandwidth savings can be achieved. For certain titles, up to 38% of the bandwidth can be saved for IPv4. This percentage increases to 54% for IPv6, as this protocol has a bigger overhead. The cost of these bandwidth savings is the addition of a new delay, which has an upper bound that can be modified. So there is a tradeoff: the greater the added delays, the greater the bandwidth savings. Significant reductions in the amounts of packets per second generated can also be obtained. Tests have been deployed in an emulated scenario matching an access network, showing that if the number of players is big enough, the added delays can be acceptable in terms of user experience.
A growing diversity of pervasive devices is gaming access to the Internet and other information. However, much of the rich multimedia contents cannot be easily handled by the client devices because of the limited communication, processing, storage and display capabilities. The in-tegration of voice, data and video service modified the target of networking technologies. Networks must have some the capabilities for in-tegration of various services and also for QoS support as required by each of those service. Because of these reasons, we developed EAGIS(Efficient ATM Gateway for real time Internet Service) to provide seamless multimedia service between the ATM network and the Internet. EAGIS consists of the interworking unit, content server, transcoding server, and the serveice broker to provide seamless multimedia service be-tween the ATM network and the Internet. In this paper, we design the architecture and transcoding service scenario of the EAGIS. When the RTP is used for the bi-directional communication, transcoding time is configured by the time-stamp of RTCP. When HTTP is used for unidirec-tional communication, self-timer is used. By using these reference time, standard transcoding method is applicable according to the frame trans-mission rate and network traffic load. And we can also assure the QoS of the multiple users` effective bandwidth by our algorithm.
