여자 청소년의 성역할정체감과 우울 (Gender Role Identity and Depression in Female Adolescents)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify types of gender role identity in female adolescents and to investigate the relationship between types of gender role identity and depression. Method: The research design for this study was a descriptive survey design using convenience sampling. Data were collected through self report questionnaires from 1,497 female high school students in Seoul. Data were analyzed using SPSS 10.0 program. Results: The androgyny gender role identity was most common (33.9%). Of the types of gender role identity that had a significant relationship with depression. androgyny gender role identity had the lowest significant relationship to level of depression level, followed by masculinity, femininity, and undifferentiated type. Conclusion: It is necessary that nurses provide interventions to help female adolescents develop gender role identity toward androgyny.

사회적 상황의 제시 유무에 따른 아동의 성역할 개념의 유연성 (Children's Gender-Role Flexibility in Social Situations)

  • Gender role flexibility in social and non-social situations across 4 areas of gender-role concepts(appearance, activities, occupations, and personality traits) were studied in 74 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade children. They were interviewed with 16 pictures depicting cross-gender characteristics. Children showed higher flexibility in social than in non-social situations. In social situations, children justified cross-gender characteristics in all 4 areas of gender-role concept. In non-social situations, children showed (a) highest flexibility in occupations and lowest in appearance, (b) lower flexibility toward male than female target children, (c) peak flexibility at age 8, then remaining the same except for appearance, and (d) higher flexibility in girls than in boys. In social and non-social situations children gave variable justifications for flexibility.

Sex Role Identity by Gender & Socioeconomic Status and the Association with Academic Performance: A Comparison of American and Korean Student Groups

  • This survey examined sex role identities (androgyny, masculinity, femininity, and undifferentiated), gender, and academic achievement scores from an international sampling of college students. For a comparison, American students and Korean students responded to survey questions on the Bem Sex Role Inventory and the Korean Sex Role Inventory respectively, reported family socio-economic status and achievement scores on the American College Testing (ACT) or Korean Scholastic Ability Test (KSAT). Results in this study indicate that a higher percentage of American students report an androgynous or undifferentiated gender role identity than do Koreans, while Korean students are more likely to show a feminine gender role identity than Americans. Although American students reported higher levels of androgyny in their gender role identity, those who fit the feminine gender role identity group showed higher ACT scores than other gender role identity types. However, in the Korean sample, the masculine gender role identity produced a higher academic achievement for both males and females.

  • The study identifies the importance of informational and legislative support in ensuring gender equality. It determines the relevance of gender inequality, the main problem, which is confirmed by research and statistical information. The study aims to determine the methods of collecting information and legal regulation of gender issues and the possibility of solving them by public authorities. The main methods of gathering information are census surveys, questionnaires, surveys on public service websites, work with local communities, surveys in nursing homes and orphanages, special survey programs, and election polls. The paper considers the legal regulation of gender inequalities at the international, state, local and organizational levels. According to the analysis of the problem of gender inequality, it is established that the problem is practically eliminated in many developed countries, while countries with low incomes face gender inequality constantly.

  • Dress functions as a clear boundary between gender differences In the past. However dress in the 21st century, due to movement of feminism during the 1960's, advance of mass media and the influence of postmodernism, the boundary of gender differences has been blurred. Especially in men's fashion, where there was no little changes in traditional menswear, it is noteworthy that there appears some changes. The research about gender has developed to queer theory, subjected on gender itself, founded on the gender diversity. The purpose of the study is to conduct the implied meanings of dress in contemporary society, when gender diversity has been expressed in men's fashion, and to review the characteristics of contemporary men's fashion through the collections and advertisements of post 2000's as well as internet sites. This research is based on theory of Judith Butler, which is on the center of feminism and queer theory. Homosexual expressions which are presented in male clothing and advertisement produce rejection of the dichotomous view of gender concept and allowing of individual gender identity expression.

  • 우리나라는 성평등 실현을 목적으로 성주류화 제도를 도입했다. 성주류화 실행이 체계적이고 지속적으로 작동되기 위해 가장 중요한 것은 모든 사회구성원과 조직, 다양한 집단의 적극적인 참여라 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 실효성 있는 성주류화 실행을 위해 여성, 소외계층, 교육기관, 직능단체, NGO, 전문가, 연구기관, 기업, 언론, 정부, 의회, 성별영향분석평가 센터 등이 참여하는 거버넌스 모형과 구축 방안을 제안한다.

간호학 전공 여학생과 문과계 전공 여학생의 성 고정관념 비교 (Comparison of Gender Stereotype between Female Nursing Students and Humanities Students)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify difference in gender stereotype between female nursing students and humanities students. Methods: A descriptive comparative study was done. The subjects were 300 nursing students and 114 humanities students who were selected by convenient sampling. Data were collected from September 2008 to October 2008 using a constructive questionnaire with 30 questions, which was prepared for this study by modifying the instrument about gender stereotype developed by Kim. The data were analyzed through ANCOVA, factor analysis and Chronbach's.using the SPSS program. Results: 1) Of the six subcategories of gender stereotype, five were higher in the nursing students than in the humanities students, but occupational gender stereotype was not. 2) Age affected total, familiar, social, external, and intellectual gender stereotype. 3) Self-satisfaction and major satisfaction affected social gender stereotype. 4) In the analysis of difference in gender stereotype with controlling age, self-satisfaction and major satisfaction, the nursing students showed statistically significant higher scores in intellectual stereotype than the humanities students. Conclusion: Because female nursing students tended to show high gender stereotype, nursing educators need to develop programs for helping nursing students escape from gender stereotypes and increase their self-satisfaction.

『멋진 신세계』에서의 젠더 트러블 (Gender Trouble in Brave New World)

  • 본 연구는 올더스 헉슬리의 "멋진 신세계"를 통해 과학이 고도로 발달된 미래 사회에서 젠더 문제를 어떻게 다루고 있는지 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 또한 평등과 균등을 표방하는 월드 스테이트라는 신세계에서 젠더 평등이 어떻게 이루어지고 있는지를 살펴보면서 진정한 젠더 평등의 의미를 생각해보았다. 표면적으로 전통적인 가족제도가 존재하는 원주민 보호구역에서는 젠더 불평등적인 요소가 많았으며, 과학이 발전된 월드 스테이트는 젠더 평등이 이루어지고 있었다. 하지만 월드 스테이트 사회를 좀 더 자세히 들여다보면 사회의 안정이라는 명목 하에 국가의 의도에 따라 개인의 권리를 박탈하고 있음을 알 수 있었으며, 여성이 성적 상품으로 전락하는 등의 젠더 불평등적이 요소가 존재하고 있음을 볼 수 있었다. 따라서 이 소설을 통해 우리는 진정한 젠더 평등이 어떠한 것인지에 대해서 다시 한 번 생각해 보고, 이를 이루기 위해 무엇이 필요하며 어떠한 노력을 해야 하는 지에 대하여 살펴보아야 할 것이다.

Emerging Gender Issues in Korean Online Media: A Temporal Semantic Network Analysis Approach

  • In South Korea, as awareness of gender equality increased since the 1990s, policies for gender equality and social awareness of equality have been established. Until recently, however, the gap between men and women in social and economic activities has not reached the globally desired level and led to social conflict throughout the country. In this study, we analyze the content of online news comments to understand the public perception of gender equality and the details of gender conflict and to grasp the emergence and diffusion process of emerging issues on gender equality. We collected text data from the online news that included the word 'gender equality' posted from January 2012 to June 2017 and also collected comments on each selected news item. Through text mining and the temporal semantic network analysis, we tracked the changes in discourse on gender equality and conflict. Results revealed that gender conflicts are increasing in the online media, and the focus of conflict is shifting from 'position and role inequality' to 'opportunity inequality'.

남자간호사의 성 고정관념과 직무만족에 관한 연구 (Study on Male Nurses' Gender Stereotype and Job Satisfaction)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate gender stereotype and job satisfaction, and to identify the relationship between gender stereotype and job satisfaction in male nurses. Method: The participants were 165 male nurses who worked in the Seoul, Gyeonggi and Daejeon areas. Data were collected from August 31th, 2009 to October 15th, 2009. A survey questionnaire was used to measure demographics, gender-role identity, gender stereotype and job satisfaction. Data were analyzed using SPSS/Win 12.0 version. Results: The mean score for gender stereotype was 2.81 points out of a possible 5. There were statistically significant differences in gender stereotype by general characteristics such as career in the current department (F=5.249, p=.007) and position (t=2.547, p=.012). The scores for gender stereotype were significantly higher in the group with less than five years in the current department and in the staff nurse group. The mean score for job satisfaction was 2.95 out of a possible 5. There was a significant negative correlation between gender stereotype and job satisfaction. Conclusions: Development of educational programs is required to improve the gender stereotype.
