The effect of temperature and light on anthocyanin synthesis in Glehnia littoralis Fr. Schm. (갯방풍의 Anthocyanin생성에 미치는 온도 및 광의 영향)

  • The experiment was carried out to clarify the effects of air temperature, light exposure and UV light on the growth and anthocyanin syntheses of Glehnia littoralis Fr. Schm. The major pigment of purfied aglycone of Glehnia littoralis Fr. Schm. was identified as cyanidin by TLC and HPLC analysis. The anthocyanin Syntheses was promoted at low temperature and in the treatment of light exposure (12hrs a day) for 4-6 days after shading. The plants grown under UV-cut film had less anthocyanin content those tose under UV-transmission film.

Cardiovascular Protective Effects of the n-Butanol Fraction from Glehnia littoralis Fr. Schm. in a High-Fat-Diet Mouse Model and Its Composition (고지방식이 마우스 동물모델에서 갯방풍 부탄올 분획물의 심혈관 보호 효과 및 주요 성분)

  • In our search for natural products affecting blood circulation, the n-butanol fraction from whole plant of Glehnia littoralis Fr. Schm. (GLB) improved blood lipid parameters, and ameliorated obesity in high-fat-diet (HFD)-fed C57BL/6 mouse model. Hyperlipidemia was induced by high-fat-diet for 4 weeks, and then GLB was orally administrated with 400 mg/kg/day for 4 weeks. GLB-treated group showed that the gain in body weight was significantly attenuated, the levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride significantly lowered on blood chemical analysis, and significantly prolonged the mice bleeding time when compared with those of HFD control group. Concomitantly, phytochemical composition of GLB was investigated by HPLC-hyphenated spectroscopy, and two major phenolic compounds, rutin and chlorogenic acid were identified in the GLB. Taken together, these results indicate that GLB has cardiovascular protective effects and could be a natural medicine candidate for the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Floristic Survey of Salt Marshes and Dunes on Gyeonggi Bay in Korea (경기만 연안지역의 염생식물 분포)

  • The halophytes were investigated on Gyeonggi Bay from Aug. 1999 to Oct. 2001. The survey was conducted at 38 areas including natural salt marshes, dunes, abandoned salt farms and bank areas. During this study 46 species of halophytes were collected in the areas. Among the halophytes the following 7 species were found at natural salt marshes only; Triglochin maritimum L, Carex scabrifolia Steud., Salicornia herbacea L., Suaedu australis (R. Br.) Moq., S. martima Dum., S. japonica Makino, S. malacosperma Hara, on the other hand 8 species at dunes only; Glehnia littoralis Fr. Schm., Cnidium japonicum Miq., Messerschmidia sibirica L., Ixeris repens A. Gray, Corispermum stauntonii Miq., Vitex rotundifolia L. fil., Ischaemum anthephoroides Miq., Carex kobomugi Ohwi. The distributions of halophytes in each regions are as the followings : Isl. Gyodong-do 21 species, Isl. Seokmo-do 10 species, Isl. Ganghwa-do 28 species, Isl. Jangbong-do 16 species, Isl. Sin & Si-do 10 species, Isl. Daemuui-do 23 species, Isl. Deokjeok-do 23 species, Isl. Ijak-do 10 species, Isl. Yeongheung-do 29 species, Soyra 25 species, Isl. Daebu-do 15 species, Ssangsong-ri 6 species, Hogok-ri 16 species, Maehyang-ri 10 species.
