  • The present study has focused on the development of shear textures during groove pressing in an aluminum alloy sheet. The shear components 23 and 13 developed during the groove pressing process. The process consisting of two steps of grooving and flattening each effectively gave rise to a high shear deformation In the sheet without reduction in thickness. The main texture component obtained from the process was the rotated Bs-orientation. The evolution of shear components during the groove pressing caused an increase in R-value of aluminum sheet comparing to a normally processed rolled sheet.

  • Groove pressing which is analogous to groove rolling in the aspect of deformation mode was designed and influence of the uncommon shear deformation on the development of texture and R value was investigated. Texture developed by the groove pressing were measured as well as predicted. It was found out that the main component in the developed texture was {40。, 45。, 0。} in ODF which was regarded as a rotated Bs component and rarely observed in a plain rolling. The maximum R value was predicted to be 3.8 in 45。 direction which might be attributed to the new component.

  • Among severe plastic deformation methods, groove pressing is one of the prominent techniques for producing ultra-fine grained sheet materials. This process consists of imposing repetitive severe plastic deformation on the plate or sheet metals through alternate pressing. In the current study, a 2 mm pure Cu sheet has been subjected to repetitive shear deformation up to two passes. Hardness and tensile yield and ultimate stress were obtained after groove pressing. Fracture toughness tests have been performed and compared for three conditions of sheet material namely as received (initial annealed state), after one and two passes of groove pressing. Results of experiments indicate that a decrease in the values of fracture toughness attains as the number of constrained groove pressing (CGP) passes increase.

  • Elasto-plastic finite element analysis was carried out for analyzing the severe plastic deformation behavior of copper specimens during groove pressing. Deformation localization was studied in terms of strain variations along the longitudinal direction. Plastic strain is lower at the local interface between the shear and the flat regions, which receive very little shear during the pressing cycle. Strain localization is more intensified with the number of rove pressing cycles, although the average strain level increases.

  • A simple cold pressing procedure which allows shear deformations on sheet metals is proposed by designing dies with grooves and applied to aluminum 3003 sheets. shear deformation led to the formation of preferred orientation along <100>//RD, and the effect of initial tortures on the formation of shear textures was also studied Rectangular shaped dislocation cells formed in the deformed microstructure and boundaries of dislocation cells gradually rounded with the increased plastic strain. Upon subsequent annealing textures inherited deformation textures. Recrystallized grains consisted of a large number of fully recovered subgrains with well defined boundaries which persisted even after annealing at a higher temperature.

  • In the sapphire wafering process, lapping is a crucial operation in order to reduce the damaged layer and achieve the target thickness. Many parameters, such as pressure, velocity, abrasive, slurry and plate, affect lapping characteristics. This paper presents an experimental investigation on the effect of the plate groove on the material removal rate and roughness of the wafer. We select the spiral pattern and rectangular type as the groove shapes. We vary the groove density by controlling the groove shape dimension, i.e., the groove width and pitch. As the groove density increases to 0.4, the material removal rate increases and gradually reaches a saturation point. When the groove density is low, the pressing load is mostly supported by the thick film, and only a small amount acts on the abrasives resulting to a low material removal rate. The roughness decreases on increasing the groove density up to 0.3 because thick film makes partial participations of large abrasives which make deep scratches. From these results, we could conclude that the groove affects the contact condition between the wafer and plate. At the same groove density, the pitch has more influence on reducing the film thickness than the groove width. By decreasing the groove density with a smaller pitch and larger groove width, we could achieve a high material removal rate and low roughness. These results would be helpful in understanding the groove effects and determining the appropriate groove design.

  • Among various methods to manufacture the PDP barrier ribs, the pressing and the roll forming methods are simple and economical because they form the ribs by utilizing the plastic flow of the green tape in a relatively short time without generating air-polluting dusts. In the present study, the roll forming method was investigated by experiments as well as numerical analyses and in result the groove roll and the preform were designed. The effect of draft angle, corner radius, and initial thickness of the green tape on the plastic flow was examined by a series of parametric studies. The preform was recommended to ease the plastic flow into the grooves and to avoid the occurrence of cracks during rolling and sintering processes.

  • A roller with a shaft and hot oil paths for pressing electrodes of polymer batteries were modeled and analyzed by FEM. There are many hot oil tubes in the roller and shaft, through which $72^{\circ}C$ hot oil flows for heating the surface of a roller and shaft. Thermal deformations and temperatures distributions of the roller and shaft were calculated and a convection boundary condition on surfaces was used. The influence of existence of a groove in the shaft on the flatness of a roller surface caused by thermal deformation was investigated. In addition, the amount of spring-back of electrodes under vacuum pressure and heating was calculated after the hot rolling process. It was shown from this study that the groove in one shaft had a favorable effect on the surface flatness.
