  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to look for physical growth and developmental retardation of the disabled children in registered educational institutions. Method: The participants in this study were 103 children. The data was collected from January to September 2006. Body weight, height and head circumference were measured and the Denver II developmental screening tool was used to measure personal-social development. Results: For 40.8% of the children body weight was less than the average for Korean children of the same age, for 49.5% height was lower than average and for 44.7% head circumference was lower. For 84.5% of the children there was a delay in personal-social development, for 87.4% a delay in fine motor-adaptive development, for 80.6% a delay in speech development and for 81.6% a delay in gross motor development. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, it is necessary to develop an individual developmental programs for these children based on their growth and development status.

  • The main aim of this paper is to discuss the difference between the Euler-Maruyama's approximate solutions and the accurate solution to stochastic differential delay equation. To make the theory more understandable, we impose the non-uniform Lipschitz condition and weakened linear growth condition. Furthermore, we give the pth moment continuous of the approximate solution for the delay equation.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compared the growth and development of premature and full-term infants during the 2 years after birth. Method: The participants were 102 infants, 51 each for premature infants, and for healthy full-term infants. Participants in the premature group accounted for 17.5% of all premature infants who were registered at the public health center in G city. Developmental status was evaluated using the Korean Denver II. Results: The catch-up growth of the premature was 100% in weight and in height. Suspicious developmental delay according to the Korean Denver II was 3.9% in normal infants and 31.2% in premature infants. Factors related to the suspicious developmental delay in premature infants were their age and health state at birth. The rate of suspicious developmental delay was higher in infants over 6 months and infants unhealthy at birth. Conclusion: A premature follow-up program, which includes nutrition education to achieve catch-up growth and to prevention obesity, along with continuous developmental screening test for infants and children born prematurely is recommended. Provision for home visits and telephone counseling for premature infants and their families who do not to use the public health center should also be included.

  • In this paper, we used Helmholtz solver based on 3D finite element method to quantitatively analyze the effects of change of gain, time delay and time delay spread, which are the main variables of flame transfer function, on combustion instability in gas turbine combustor. The effects of the variable of flame transfer function on the frequency and growth rate, which are the main results of combustion instability, were analyzed by applying the conventional heat release fluctuation model and modified one considering the time spread. The analysis results showed that the change of gain and time delay in the same resonance mode affected the frequency of the given resonance modes as well as growth rate of the feedback instability, however, the effect of time delay spread was not relatively remarkable, compared with the dominant effect of time delay.

  • In this article, a mathematical model is proposed and analyzed to study the delayed dynamics of a system having a predator and two preys with distinct growth rates and functional responses. The equilibrium points of proposed system are determined and the local stability at each of the possible equilibrium points is investigated by its corresponding characteristic equation. The boundedness of the system is established in the absence of delay and the condition for existence of persistence in the system is determined. The discrete type gestational delay of predator is also incorporated on the system. Further it is proved that the system undergoes Hopf bifurcation using delay as bifurcation parameter. This study refers that time delay may have an impact on the stability of the system. Finally Computer simulations illustrate the dynamics of the system.

  • Traditional TCP implementations have the under-utilization problem in large bandwidth delay product networks especially during the startup phase. In this paper, we propose a delay-based congestion control(DCC) mechanism to solve the problem. DCC is subdivided into linear and exponential growth phases. When there is no queueing delay, the congestion window grows exponentially during the congestion avoidance period. Otherwise, it maintains linear increase of congestion window similar to the legacy TCP congestion avoidance algorithm. The exponential increase phase such as the slow-start period in the legacy TCP can cause serious performance degradation by packet losses in case the buffer size is insufficient for the bandwidth-delay product, even though there is sufficient bandwidth. Thus, the DCC uses the RTT(Round Trip Time) status and the estimated queue size to prevent packet losses due to excessive transmission during the exponential growth phase. The simulation results show that the DCC algorithm significantly improves the TCP startup time and the throughput performance of TCP in large bandwidth delay product networks.

  • During the past few years, cyberspace and electronic commerce has been expanding throughout the world rapidly. The purpose of this paper is to find out policy leverages for boosting up cyberspace and electronic commerce using system dynamics simulation modeling approach. The system dynamics simulation model developed in this paper allows analysis of both the effect of factors on dynamic growth pattern of cyberspace as well as the effect of time delay in information processing, money transfer and delivery on model behavior. Finding of this study is that capacity of information infrastructure and size of cyberspace population are key factors of cyberspace growth. Also, reducing time delay in information flow, money flow, and delivery flow is an important policy leverages for growth of electronic commerce.

  • End-to-end network delay plays an vital role in distributed services. This delay is used to measure QoS (Quality-of-Service). It would be beneficial to know all node-pair delay information, but unfortunately it is not feasible in practice because the use of active probing will cause a quadratic growth in overhead. Alternatively, using the measured network delay to estimate the unknown network delay is an economical method. In this paper, we adopt the state-of-the-art matrix completion technology to better estimate the network delay from limited measurements. Although the number of measurements required for an exact matrix completion is theoretically bounded, it is practically less helpful. Therefore, we propose an online adaptive sampling algorithm to measure network delay in which statistical leverage scores are used to select potential matrix elements. The basic principle behind is to sample the elements with larger leverage scores to keep the traits of important rows or columns in the matrix. The amount of samples is adaptively decided by a proposed stopping condition. Simulation results based on real delay matrix show that compared with the traditional sampling algorithm, our proposed sampling algorithm can provide better performance (smaller estimation error and less convergence pressure) at a lower cost (fewer samples and shorter processing time).

  • In this paper, we have studied the dynamical behaviour such as boundedness, local and global stabilities, bifurcation of a single species population affected by environmental toxicant and population toxicant. We have also studied the effect of discrete delay of the environmental toxicant on the instantaneous growth rates of the population biomass and population toxicant due to incubation period. The length of delay preserving the stability is also estimated. Computer simulations are carried out to illustrate our analytical findings.

  • In order to measure the characteristics of Surface Acousitc Wave(SA W) with compositions of $LiNbO_3$ single crystal, $128^{\circ}$ Y cut wafer was fabricated from $LiNbO_3$ single crystals with the composition range of 47-50 $Li_2O$mol%. Delay lines were formed on the $128^{\circ}$ Y cut wafer using photolithography technique. Delay time was measured by pulse-echo overlap method. The compositional dependence of SAW characteristics, SAW velocity, electro-mechanical coupling coefficient$(K_s^2)$ and temperature coefficient of delay time(TCD), were investigated.
