This study was investigated on the impact toughness and microstructure of welded metal and heat affected zone for Hi Nitrogen TiN Steel. With welding procedures, welding heat input applied were 30, 79 and 264 kJ/cm. TiN steel has shown very small prior austenite grain size for all the welding heat input applied, which was considered to result from the effect of TiN particles. In case of single SAW and EGW welding, the dilution rate of base metal into the weld was not high, resulting that there were no significant effects of base metal chemical composition on the mechanical properties of welds. However, TSAW with double Ypreparation carried very high dilution rate so that TiN steel has impaired the toughness of weld metal because N content in the weld was increased through the dilution of base metal.
In this paper, the optimizing investigation of characteristics of underwater welding by a gravity type arc welding process is experimentally carried out by using the .phi. 4mm ilmenite type of domestic coated welding electrodes for welding the domestic marine structural steel plates of 8mm thickness in order to develop the underwater welding techniques in practical use, resulting in the quantitative analysis possibility for the relationship between the mechanical propernical properties of underwater welded joint HAZ and the welding heat input.
The effects of heat input(1.5~3.6kJ/mm) and postweld heat treatment(PWHT, $600^{\circ}C$, 40hr.) on the TMCP HSB600 steel weldments made by GMAW process were investigated. The tensile strength and CVN impact energy of as-welded specimens decreased with increasing heat input. The fine-grained acicular ferrite was mainly formed in the low heat input while polygonal and side plate ferrites were dominated in the high inputs. Meanwhile, tensile strength and hardness of PWHT weldments decreased due to the coarsening of microstructure and reduction of residual stresses.
Orbital GTA welding is used in the pressure pipe line of auto-mobile, LNG and plant piping. To weld the pipe line safely, to some extent, the back bead must be formed in the root pass. In the plate welding the back bead can be observed, but in the pipe welding, the back bead can not be observed directly. In the welding around circumference, the parameters such as gravity, surface tension and arc force are different at each position. And then D/B for welding condition at each position are required. We also studied about the setting of the optimum orbital welding condition by controlling heat input.
In the present study, the microstructure and Charpy V notch toughness of multipass $CO_2$ FCA weldment in three different heat inputs(1-3KJ/mm)were investigated. The weldments using two different domestic FCAW wires(AWS E71T-1 and E71T-5 equivalent) in C-Mn steel were chemically analysed. The following conclusions can be inferred. 1. T-1 wire Showed a stable arc transfer, less spatter and harsh, a better bead spreading and easy slag removal, whereas T-5 wire suffered from the arc stability, which tended to increase spatter and produce a more convex bead. 2.The microsturctures of the top beads of the weldments in three different heat inputs consisted of coarse-grained boundary ferrite and Widmanstatten ferrite side plate with increasing heat inputs. The modest fraction of acicular ferrite in the two wire weldments was observed in the 2KJ/mm heat input. 3.The fine-grained reheated zones of both welds consisted of a duplex microstructure of polygonal ferrite and second phases. 4. The basic flux weldment of T-5wires showed a higher Charpy impact property than that of T-1 wires because of a higher fraction of acicular ferrite in the weld microstructure.
The performance of microturbine CHP system equipped with an absorption chiller was analyzed by modelling of a microturbine and an absorption chiller. The microturbine having recuperator was simulated by the Brayton cycle model. The mass flow rate and available heat energy of the exhaust gas from the microtubune were simulated, and this results were utilized as input values for the generator of the absorption chiller. The absorption chiller is a single-effect air cooled type having solution heat exchanger. When heat input to the generator increased, the heat transfer rate and UA of the heat exchangers of the absorption chiller proportionally increased. Besides, the COP of the absorption chiller increased with increase of the heat input to the generator under the sufficient size of the evaporator condition. When the capacity of the CHP system increased from 30 to 60 kW, the mass flow rate of the LiBr for the absorption chiller increased by two times, and UA values for evaporator and condenser were increased by 3.9 and 3.4 times, respectively, under the same COP condition.

The performance of a microturbine CHP system equipped with an absorption chiller was analyzed by modeling it. The microturbine with recuperator was simulated with the Brayton cycle model. The mass flow rate and available heat energy of the exhaust gas from the microturbine were simulated. These results were utilized as input values for the generator of the absorption chiller. The absorption chiller is a single-effect air cooled type with a solution heat exchanger. The heat input into the generator was proportional to the heat transfer rate and the UA values of the heat exchangers of the absorption chiller. Furthermore, the COP of the absorption chiller increased with respect to an increase of the heat input into the generator, under the sufficient evaporator capacity condition. When the capacity of the CHP system increased from 30 to 60 kW, the mass flow rate of the LiBr for the absorption chiller doubled, and the UA values for evaporator and condenser increased by factors of x3.9 and x3.4, respectively, under the same COP condition.
This paper describes design procedure of suboptimal control to minimize a performance index which is represented as sum of square output error and the heat input power in arc welding process. Heat input and temperature of a fixed point on the surface of the material are concerned as input and output of the process, repectively. The suboptimal control law considered here in is a proportional plus integral type and is implemented by using only the output variables available from sensor which is also optimally located in a fixed point w.r.t. a moving weld touch.

Characteristics of dissimilar metal welds between ASTM Type 316L and carbon steel ASTM A516 Gr.70 made with FCAW were evaluated in terms of microstructure, ferrite content, EDS analysis, hardness, tensile strength, impact toughness and corrosion resistance. Three heat inputs of 10.4, 16.9, 23.4kJ/cm were employed to make joints of dissimilar metals with E309LMoT1-1 wire. Microstructure of dissimilar weld metals consisted of mostly vermicular type of ${\delta}$-ferrite and some lathy type of ${\delta}$-ferrite, and ${\delta}$-ferrite was transformed into globular type in reheated zone. In all conditions, weld metals were solidified on FA solidification mode. Based on the EDS analysis of weld metals, All Creq/Nieq values were in the range of FA solidification mode, and it was decreased with increasing heat inputs whereas it was increased with increasing layers. The amount of ${\delta}$-ferrite was decreased with increasing heat input due to the difference of cooling rate, and it was increased with increasing layers. Accordingly, hardness and tensile strength of dissimilar metals weld joints was decreased with increasing heat input while impact energy was increased with increasing heat input. Corrosion test of dissimilar metals weld joints showed that weight gain rate of heat input 10.4kJ/cm was the greatest, and that of three heat inputs became constant after certain time.

This study experimentally reveals the influence of welding on grade S690Q high strength steel (HSS) butt joints from both micro and macro levels. Total eight butt joints, taking plate thickness and welding heat input as principal factors, were welded by shielded metal arc welding. In micro level, the microstructure transformations of the coarse grain heat affected zone (CGHAZ), the fine grain heat affected zone (FGHAZ) and the tempering zone occurred during welding were observed under light optical microscopy, and the corresponding mechanical performance of those areas were explored by micro-hardness tests. In macro level, standard tensile tests were conducted to investigate the impacts of welding on tensile behaviour of S690Q HSS butt joints. The test results showed that the main microstructure of S690Q HSS before welding was tempered martensite. After welding, the original microstructure was transformed to granular bainite in the CGHAZ, and to ferrite and cementite in the FGHAZ. For the tempering zone, some temper martensite decomposed to ferrite. The performed micro-hardness tests revealed that an obvious "soft layer" occurred in HAZ, and the HAZ size increased as the heat input increased. However, under the same level of heat input, the HAZ size decreased as the plate thickness increased. Subsequent coupon tensile tests found that all joints eventually failed within the HAZ with reduced tensile strength when compared with the base material. Similar to the size of the HAZ, the reduction of tensile strength increased as the welding heat input increased but decreased as the thickness of the plate increased.
