Development of decision supporting package for the design of a physical distribution system (물류시스템 설계를 위한 의사결정지원 패키지의 개발)

  • Strategic decisions related to the design of a physical distribution system can be classified into three basic components : facility location, transportation, inventory decisions. In this research the interdependence of those decisions are expressed in a mathematical model such that the total relevant cost of the system is minimized. We suggested a heuristic technique for solving the model. In broad terms, our solution technique combines a heuristic method for determining which candidate DCs to open and an exact method for minimizing costs given a set of open DCs. And we also developed a decision supporting package for the design of a physical distribution system.

Weighted Finite State Transducer-Based Endpoint Detection Using Probabilistic Decision Logic

  • In this paper, we propose the use of data-driven probabilistic utterance-level decision logic to improve Weighted Finite State Transducer (WFST)-based endpoint detection. In general, endpoint detection is dealt with using two cascaded decision processes. The first process is frame-level speech/non-speech classification based on statistical hypothesis testing, and the second process is a heuristic-knowledge-based utterance-level speech boundary decision. To handle these two processes within a unified framework, we propose a WFST-based approach. However, a WFST-based approach has the same limitations as conventional approaches in that the utterance-level decision is based on heuristic knowledge and the decision parameters are tuned sequentially. Therefore, to obtain decision knowledge from a speech corpus and optimize the parameters at the same time, we propose the use of data-driven probabilistic utterance-level decision logic. The proposed method reduces the average detection failure rate by about 14% for various noisy-speech corpora collected for an endpoint detection evaluation.

  • In this study, it is suggested that it has to reliability-based design methodology with respect to bridge structure-rail longitudinal interaction and bridge structure-vehicle interaction. For the structural analysis, commercial package, ABAQUS, are used for a three-dimensional finite element analysis. The optimization process utilizes a well-known optimizer, ADS(Automated Design Synthesis). Optimization technique is utilized the ALM-BFGS method for global area search and Golden Section Method for 1-D search. In general, ALM-BFGS method don't need the 1-D search, and that algorithm converge a 0.1~0.2 of Push-Off factor. But in this study, value of Push-Off factor is used 90, therefore 1-D search should be needed for effective convergency. That algorithm contains the "heuristic decision method". As a result of optimum design of 2-main steel girder birdge with 5${\times}$(1@50m), design methodology suggested in this study was demonstrated more economic and efficient than existing design and LCC optimization not considering bridge-rail longitudinal interaction and bridge-vehicle interaction.

  • This paper presents a data-mining aided heuristic algorithm development. The developed algorithm includes three steps. The steps are a uniform selection, development of feature functions and clustering, and a decision tree making. The developed algorithm is employed in designing an optimal multi-station fixture layout. The objective is to minimize the sensitivity function subject to geometric constraints. Its benefit is presented by a comparison with currently available optimization methods.

  • Data mining is the process of extracting hidden patterns from collected data. At this time, for collected data which take important role as the basic information for prediction and recommendation, the process to discriminate incorrect data in order to enhance the performance of analysis result, is needed. The existing methods to discriminate unexpected data from collected data, mainly relies on methods which are based on statistics or simple distance between data. However, for these methods, the problematic point that even meaningful data could be excluded from analysis due that the environment and characteristic of the relevant data are not considered, exists. This study proposes a method to endow human heuristic knowledge with weight value through the comparison between collected data and human heuristic knowledge, and to use the value for creating a decision tree. The data discrimination by the method proposed is more credible as human knowledge is reflected in the created tree. The validity of the proposed method is verified through an experiment.

Production Planning Method Using the Push-back Heuristic Algorithm: Implementation in a Micro Filter Manufacturer in South Korea

  • In this paper, we present a modeling approach to production planning for an actual production line and a heuristic method. We also illustrate the successful implementation of the proposed method on the production line. A heuristic algorithm called the push-back algorithm was designed for a single machine earliness/tardiness production planning with distinct due date. It was developed by combining a minimum slack time rule and shortest processing time rule with a push-back procedure. The results of a numerical experiment on the heuristic's performance are presented in comparison with the results of IBM ILOG CPLEX. The proposed algorithm was applied to an actual case of production planning at Woongjin Chemical, a leading manufacturer of filter products in South Korea. The seven-month execution of our algorithm led to a 24.5% decrease in the company's inventory level, thus demonstrating its practicality and effectiveness.

  • This paper proposes an expert system which can determine automatically the shunting routes corresponding to the given shunting works by considering totally the train operating environments in the station. The expert system proposes the multiple shunting routes with priority of selection based on heuristic search strategy. Accordingly, system operator can select a shunting route with the safety and efficiency among the those shunting routes. The expert system consists of a main inference engine and a sub inference engine. The main inference engine determines the shunting routes with selection priority using the segment routes obtained from the sub inference engine. The heuristic rules are extracted from operating knowledges of the veteran route operator and station topology. It is implemented in C computer language for the purpose of the implementation of the inference engine using the dynamic memory allocation technique. And, the validity of the builted expert system is proved by a test case for the model station.

  • A path planning algorithm using a laser range finder are presented for real-tiem navigation of an autonomous guided vehicle. Considering that the laser range finder has the excellent resolution with respect to angular and distance measurements, a sophisticated local path planning algorithm is achieved by using the human's heuristic method. In the case of which the man knows not rhe path, but the goal direction, the man forwards to the goal direction, avoids obstacle if it appears, and selects the best pathway when there are multi-passable ways between objects. These heuristic principles are applied to the path decision of autonomous guided vehicle such as forward open, side open and no way. Also, the effectiveness of the established path planning algorithm is estimated by computer simulation in complex environment.

A PROMETHEE Method Based Heuristic for Disassembly Line Balancing Problem

  • Disassembly of discarded products takes place in the process of remanufacturing, recycling, and disposal. The disassembly lines have been taken as available choice for automated disassembly; therefore, it has become essential that it be designed and balanced to work efficiently. The multi-objective disassembly line balancing problem seeks to find a disassembly sequence which provides a feasible disassembly sequence, minimizes the number of workstations and idle time, and balances the line for the disassembly of post consumed product by considering the environment effects. This paper proposes a multi-criteria decision making technique based heuristic for assigning the disassembly tasks to the workstations. In the proposed heuristic, the PROMETHEE method is used for prioritizing the tasks to be assigned. The tasks are assigned to the disassembly workstations according to their priority rank and precedence relations. The proposed heuristic is illustrated with an example, and the results show that substantial improvement in the performance is achieved compared with other heuristics.

A Solution of the Bicriteria Vehicle Routing Problems with Time Window Constraints (서비스시간대 제약이 존재하는 2기준 차량경로문제 해법에 관한 연구)

  • This paper is concerned with the bicriteria vehicle routing problems with time window constraints(BVRPTW). The BVRPTW is to determine the most favorable vehicle routes that minimize the total vehicle travel time and the total customer wait time which are, more often than not, conflicting. We construct a linear goal programming (GP) model for the BVRPTW and propose a heuristic algorithm to relieve a computational burden inherent to the application of the GP model. The heuristic algorithm consists of a parallel insertion method for clustering and a sequential linear goal programming procedure for routing. The results of computational experiments showed that the proposed algorithm finds successfully more favorable solutions than the Potvin an Rousseau's method that is known as a very good heuristic for the VRPs with time window constraints, through the change of target values and the decision maker's goal priority structure.
