  • The dual image-based reversible data hiding scheme embeds secret data into two images to increase the embedding capacity of secret data. The dual image-based reversible data hiding scheme can transmit a lot of secret data. Therefore, various schemes have been proposed until recently. In 2021, Chen and Hong proposed a dual image-based reversible data hiding scheme that embeds a large amount of secret data using a reference matrix, secret data, and bit values. However, in this paper, more secret data can be embedded than Chen and Hong's scheme. To achieve this goal, the proposed scheme generates polynomials and shared values using secret sharing scheme, and embeds secret data using reference matrix and septenary number, and random value. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can transmit more secret data to the receiver while maintaining the image quality similar to other dual image-based reversible data hiding schemes.

  • Compared to hiding information into digital image, hiding information into digital text file requires less storage space and smaller bandwidth for data transmission, and it has obvious universality and extensiveness. However, text files have low redundancy, so it is more difficult to hide information in text files. To overcome this difficulty, Wang et al. proposed a reversible information hiding scheme using left-right and up-down representations of Chinese characters, but, when the scheme is implemented, it does not provide good visual steganographic effectiveness, and the embedding and extracting processes are too complicated to be done with reasonable effort and cost. We observed that a lot of traditional and simplified Chinese characters look somewhat the same (also called lookalike), so we utilize this feature to propose a novel information hiding scheme for hiding secret data in lookalike Chinese characters. Comparing to Wang et al.'s scheme, the proposed scheme simplifies the embedding and extracting procedures significantly and improves the effectiveness of visual steganographic images. The experimental results demonstrated the advantages of our proposed scheme.

  • Through information hiding technique, secret message can be hidden in pictures. Stego-image quality and hiding capacity are two important metrics for information hiding. To enhance these metrics, many schemes were proposed by scholars in recent years. Some of them are effective and successful, but there is still a room for further improvement. A high capacity information hiding scheme (PAMO, Pixel-value Adjustment with Modulus Operation Algorithm) is introduced in this paper. PAMO scheme uses pixel value adjustment with modulus operation to hide confidential data in cover-image. PAMO scheme and some referenced schemes are implemented in Python and experiments are carried out to evaluate their performance. In the experiments, PAMO scheme shows better performance than other methods do. When secret message length is less than 72000 bits, the highest hiding capacity of PAMO can reach 7 bits per pixel, at the same time the PSNR of stego-images is greater than 30 dB.

  • In 2006, Zhang and Wang proposed a data hiding scheme based on Exploiting Modification Direction (EMD) to increase data hiding capacity. The major benefit of EMD is providing embedding capacity greater than 1 bit per pixel. Since then, many EMD-type data hiding schemes have been proposed. However, a serious disadvantage common to these approaches is that the embedded data is compromised when the embedding function is disclosed. Our proposed secure data hiding scheme remedies this disclosure shortcoming by employing an additional modulus function. The provided security analysis of our scheme demonstrates that attackers cannot get the secret information from the stegoimage even if the embedding function is made public. Furthermore, our proposed scheme also gives a simple solution to the overflow/underflow problem and maintains high embedding capacity and good stegoimage quality.

  • Data hiding technology hides secret information into the carrier, so that when the carrier is transmitted over network, it will not attract any malicious attention. Using data compression, it is possible to reduce the data size into a small compressed code, which can effectively reduce the time when transmitting compressed code on the network. In this paper, the main objective is to effectively combine these two technologies. We designed a data hiding scheme based on two techniques which are turtle-shell information hiding scheme and absolute moment block truncation coding. The experimental results showed that the proposed scheme provided higher embedding capacity and better image quality than other hiding schemes which were based on absolute moment block truncation coding.

  • Reversible data hiding enables the embedding of messages in a host image without any loss of host content, which is proposed for image authentication that if the watermarked image is deemed authentic, we can revert it to the exact copy of the original image before the embedding occurred. In this paper, we present an improved histogram-based reversible data hiding scheme based on prediction and sorting. A rhombus prediction is employed to explore the prediction for histogram-based embedding. Sorting the prediction has a good influence on increasing the embedding capacity. Characteristics of the pixel difference are used to achieve large hiding capacity while keeping low distortion. The proposed scheme exploits a two-stage embedding strategy to solve the problem about communicating peak points. We also present a histogram shifting technique to prevent overflow and underflow. Performance comparisons with other existing reversible data hiding schemes are provided to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed scheme.

  • Many image hiding schemes based on least significant bit (LSB) transformation have been proposed. One of the LSB-based image hiding schemes that employs diamond encoding was proposed in 2008. In this scheme, the binary secret data is converted into base n representation, and the converted secret data is concealed in the cover image. Here, we show that this scheme has two vulnerabilities: noticeable spots in the stego-image, i.e., a non-smooth embedding result, and inefficiency caused by rough re-adjustment of falling-off-boundary value and impractical base translation. Moreover, we propose a new scheme that is efficient and produces a smooth and high quality embedding result by restricting n to power of 2 and using a sophisticated re-adjustment procedure. Our experimental results show that our scheme yields high quality stego-images and is secure against RS detection attack.

  • Designing a new reversible data hiding technique with a high embedding rate and a low compression rate for vector quantization (VQ) compressed images is encouraged. This paper proposes a novel lossless data hiding scheme for VQ-compressed images based on the joint neighboring coding technique. The proposed method uses the difference values between a current VQ index and its left and upper neighboring VQ indexes to embed n secret bits into one VQ index, where n = 1, 2, 3, or 4. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme achieves the embedding rates of 1, 2, 3, and 4 bits per index (bpi) with the corresponding average compression rates of 0.420, 0.483, 0.545, and 0.608 bit per pixel (bpp) for a 256 sized codebook. These results confirm that our scheme performs better than other selected reversible data hiding schemes.

  • Reversible data hiding is a technique for recovering original images without any distortion after secret data are extracted from the image. The technique continues to attract attention from many researchers. In this paper, we introduce a new reversible data hiding scheme based on the adjacent index differences of vector quantization (VQ) indices. The proposed scheme exploits the differences between two adjacent indices to embed secret data. Experimental results show that our scheme can achieve a lower compression rate than an earlier scheme by Yang and Lin. Our scheme's average compression rate, 0.44 bpp, outperforms that of Yang and Lin's scheme, which averages 0.53 bpp. Moreover, the embedding capacity of our scheme can rise to 1.45 bpi, which also is superior to that of Chang et al.'s scheme [35] (1.00 bpi)Yang and Lin's scheme [27] (0.91 bpi) as well as Chang et al.'s scheme [26] (0.74 bpi).

  • In publishing applications, it is advantageous to embed data in halftone images. The CPT scheme (Chen-Pan-Tseng, 2000) is a steganographic data hiding scheme that was proposed for binary images, e.g., facsimiles. The CPT scheme uses a secret key and weight matrix to protect the hidden data and can hide as many as $r={\lfloor}{\log}_2(m{\times}n+1){\rfloor}$ bits of data in the image by changing at most 2 bits in the image. Our proposed scheme also uses a secret key to protect it from being compromised and a weight matrix to increase the data hiding rate. Our scheme improves the performance of the CPT scheme by using the simple principle of splitting each block into two parts. Our proposed scheme is called improved CPT (ICPT) and has a very high embedding capacity compared to previous schemes. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed scheme generally has higher performance than previous schemes.
