The selection of appropriate tower crane is a critical for successful project completion in high-rise building construction. It is because the higher buildings are the more resources they need and the longer transportation distance they have. The prediction of hoisting time, which is one of the most important task for selecting the appropriated tower crane, mainly depends on the experience of practitioners and/or historical data. However, with this method, it is difficult to predict the accurate result considering site condition such as the increase of the transportation distance, the layout of stockyard, the specification of various tower cranes, and so on. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to propose a prediction model for hoisting times of tower crane using discrete-event simulation technique in high-rise building construction. To validate the proposed model, it was applied to actual cases of hoisting time using tower crane in high-rise building projects. As a result, it is a well-constructed model similar to actual transportation using tower crane on-site. The model can support the planner to make a plan of tower crane selection in the future project.

Recently rapid urbanization facilitates development of high-rise building complex including apartment and office building in urban area. Many problems related with high -rise building are reported. Especially, unpleasant strong winds in pedestrian area are frequently encountered around the high-rise building. CFD simulation methods are used to analyze the wind environment of pedestrian level in high-rise building block. However, the results show differences between CFD and measurement. This difference is attributed to improper use of CFD. Conventional CFD simulation for wind environment around high-rise building does not describe the effect of trees, shrubs and plants near ground which affect the wind environment of pedestrian level. Canopy model can be used to reproduce the aerodynamic effects of trees, shrubs and plants near ground. In this paper, CFD simulation methods coupled with the tree canopy model to predict wind environment of pedestrian level in high-rise residential building block were suggested and the validity was analyzed by comparison between measurement and CFD results.

To rationally secure and maintain the safety and serviceability of a high-rise building, monitoring of structural responses of members is necessary. As such health monitoring of large-scale building structures has received growing attention by researchers in recent years. However, due to a very large number of members complexity of structural responses of a high-rise building structure, practical difficulties exist in selection of structural members to be sensored for assessment of structural safety of a structure. In this paper, a selection technique for active members for safety monitoring of a high-rise building based on displacement participation factor and strain energy density of a member is investigated.

To get the high quality curtain wall in high-rise buildings, we should consider of technical issues. It can strongly be wind performance and energy consumption. From this point of view, the target of this study is to analyze the performance of wind pressure and energy according to the modeled curtain wall system. To get the target, this study make the architectural model to simulate by using the Window Glass Design computer program to analyze that. From the simulation this study will analyze of the synthesized wind pressure performance according to the characteristics of windows then, indicate the composition method and the heat treatment strategy of windows in the high-rise building. It will also give a chance to understand of technical performance for a curtain wall and then, can help architects to get proper facade design for a high-rise building. This study has the limited analysis of the relationship between wind pressure and composition strategy according to the window size variations for the high-rise building. By the way this study show the possibility that it can develop to the synthetic curtain wall guideline for the high-rise building with the analysis of various factors in the future.

Recently, the high-rise building has been constructed competitively because it is symbol of the national competitive power including the technical power. The higher buildings are getting, the more important building mechanical systems are. So, the building mechanical systems are getting developed. Among the building mechanical systems, the sanitary system is basically necessary in order to maintain the building hygienically along with convenience and safety. This study has been investigated for various cases of high-rise building plumbing system. As a result, a variety of zoning method has been applied to most skyscrapers depending on the building height in the building mechanical system. And a variety of joint have been applied to minimize the Shortening and Sway. Also, the drainage in same uses has been discharged outside of a build through the one vertical pipe line. And airing system has been used like Individual Vent Pipe Yoke Vent Pipe Stack Vent Pipe Loop Vent Pipe Relief Vent Pipe method. It is sure that this study could be used as the high-rise building design.

Since high-rise building construction sites are usually located in crowded city areas, sufficient spaces for the inventories of key materials are rarely available. This spatial constraints have been one of the critical challenge that may cause productivity loss and increasing costs of the high-rise building construction projects. The proper material inventory management is certaing a key to the success of high-rise building construction projects as it handles difficulty of securing material stock yards, changes in demands, uncertain delivery time through integrating the construction schedules and actively responding to the key materials attributes. In this light, this research analyzes the latest inventory model, (Q,r) model, in accordance with the high rise building characteristics. This research suggests an optimal inventory management of re-bar considering various demands and lead times. The case study is also presented with regard to the re-bar inventory management.

A steel high-rise building (HRB) with 15 stories was analyzed under the dynamic load of wind or four different earthquakes taking into consideration the effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI) and using tuned mass damper (TMD) devices to resist these types of dynamic loads. The behavior of the steel HRB as a lightweight structure subjected to dynamic loads is critical especially for wind load with effect maximum at the top of the building and reduced until the base of the building, while on the contrary for seismic load with effect maximum at the base and reduced until the top of the building. The TMDs as a successful passive resistance method against the effect of wind or earthquakes is used to mitigate their effects on the steel high-rise building. Lateral displacements, top accelerations and straining actions were computed to judge the effectiveness of the TMDs on the response of the steel HRB subjected to wind or earthquakes.

The High-rise building has a problem the ventilation performance of natural ventilator by stack effect that it occurs by pressure difference. For that reason the study about natural smoke ventilator of High-rise building consistently needs. Therefore on this study does analysis of difference with abroad through investigate of Natrual smoke ventilator's law, it conducts of natural smoke ventilator's research on the actual condition. As a result on this study, in the case of abroad that it states more specific standards than domestic. Also the result of a field study, it shows that the natural smoke ventilator is installed same size and the number regardless of building's pressure difference.

As building heights increase, so do these challenges in Korea. High-rise buildings present a variety of challenges to fire safety and protection. The fire protection technology in our country is still on a weak situation which is mainly due to the lack of concerns by the government, companies and citizen. This paper provides general guidance regarding fire-related property protection system for high-rise building performance based design. The importance of high-rise building in of the number of occupants, the value of property, and the a catastrophic loss would have on the community all warrant an increased level of protection and life safety. Because, We have to prepare a new spacial code and standard guidance for fire protection at the stage of the high-rise building design.

Since the response reduction effect on over 200-meter-tall resulting from the seismic isolation system is smaller in general than low-rise and mid-rise buildings, mid-story isolated buildings are considered to reduce the response in the upper part above the isolation story, however, in many cases, the acceleration response just below the isolation story is likely to be the largest. This paper presents the structural design schemes, the design of the main structural frames, and the constructions of a 230-meter-tall super high-rise building with mid-story isolation mechanism integrated in Roppongi, Tokyo. Moreover, this paper shows how the architectural and structural design for integrating a mid-story isolation system in a super high-rise building has been conducted and what solutions have been derived in this project. The realization of this building indicates new possibilities for mid-story isolation design for super high-rise buildings.
