  • The thermal deformation volume of motorcycle break disk was studied using a disk-on-pad type friction tester. Thermal deformation volume of motorcycle break disk have an effect on the frictional factor such as applied load, sliding speed, sliding distance and number of ventilated disk hole. However, it is difficult to know the mutual relation of these factors on thermal deformation volume. In this study, the thermal deformation volume with ANSYS workbench are obtained by application of temperature from mechanical test. From this study, the result was shown that the motorcycle break disk with ventilated hole 3 have the most excellent thermal deformation characteristics. The regression equation with frictional factors which have a trust rate of 95% for prediction of thermal deformation volume of motorcycle break disk was composed.

  • The diffusion coefficients in polyimide/N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) systems were proposed using tile Vrentas-Duda's hole free volume theory. Several free volume parameters included in the diffusion coefficients were obtained from the fundamental physical properties of polyimide and NMP and group contribution theory, and the pre-exponential diffusion coefficient, D$_{0}$ was also determined from the dynamic swelling behavior of polyimide in NMP solution. The experimental swelling behavior of polyimide films in NMP was well described by the theoretical one using the proposed diffusion coefficient.t.

  • The effect of frictional factors on thermal stress and deformation volume of motorcycle brake disk was studied by using a disk-on-pad type friction tester. It has an effect on the frictional factor such as applied load, sliding speed, sliding distance and number of ventilated disk hole. However, it is difficult to know the mutual relation of these factors. In this study, thermal stress and deformation volume by using design of experiment with 4 elements were investigated for thermal analysis with regression analysis. Thermal stress and thermal deformation are obtained by the application of temperature from mechanical test. From this study, the result showed that the motorcycle brake disk with ventilated hole 3 had the most excellent thermal stress and deformation volume. • A prior fundamental study was executed using a constant volume chamber to improve the burning properties of lean pre-mixture by the injection of active radicals generated in the sub-chamber. In consequence, RI method shows remarkable progress in the aspects of burning velocity and combustible lean limit compared with SI method. In this study, the necessary additional works have been performed to be based on the former results. We changed parameters as the initial temperature and the initial pressure of mixture. And the effects of residual gas at issue in a real engine were investigated. As a result, the effects of initial temperature were significant, but on the other hand, those of initial pressure were slight. The correlation of passage hole number between overall passage hole area was grasped. And the more detailed analysis is required on residual gas.

  • This study presents the theoretical approach for volume concentration, velocity profile, and granular discharge on the fluid-granule mixed flow downstream of the scour hole at the outlet of the hydraulic structure. Concept of dilatant model was applied for the stress-strain relationships of fluid-granule mixed flow since the flow downstream of the scour hole corresponds to debris flow, where momentum transfers through particle collisions. Mathematical formulations were derived using momentum equation and stress-strain relation of the fluid-granule mixture. Velocity profile under the assumption of uniform concentration over flowing layer showed the downward convex type. Deposition angle of downstream hump was found to be a function of an upstream slope angle, a dynamic friction angle and a volume concentration irrespective of flow itself, Granular discharge and the overflow depth were obtained with given values of inflow rates. Experimental results showed relatively good agreements with theoretical ones.

  • In this study, the effect of the diameter and the number of barrel hole on the total area of barrel hole were calculated and analyzed. And the effects of applied current density, rotational speed of the barrel, size and number of barrel hole, and the volume of plating materials on the distribution of plating thickness were experimented and discussed by the barrel electroplating of the tube type brass specimens in a sulfamate nickel barrel solution. The effect of barrel hole size and barrel hole area on the throwing power was also discussed.

  • When drilling using electrical-discharge machining (EDM), severe electrode wear makes in-process measurements of the depth of the drilled hole and the volume of material removed impossible. To estimate the volume of material removed a reliable real-time discharge pulse counting method is proposed by assuming that the volume removed in EDM is proportional to the number of discharge pulses from an iso-energy pulse generator. The geometry of machined holes, including depths and cross-sectional profiles, is estimated using geometric analysis. A proportional relationship between the volume of material removed and the number of discharge pulses was developed and verified by experiments.

  • The spatially resolved spray volume fractions from both line-of-sight data of direct measuring cells and a laser diffraction particle analyzer (LDPA) are tomographically reconstructed by the Convolution Fourier transformation, respectively. Asymmetric sprays generated from a twin-hole injector are tested with 12 equiangular projections of measurements. For each projection angle, a line-of-sight integrated injection rate was measured using a direct sampling method and also a liquid volume fraction from a set of line-of-sight Fraunhofer diffraction measurements was measured using a light extinction method. Interpolated data between the projection angles effectively increase the number of projections, significantly enhancing the signal-to-noise level in the reconstructed data. The reconstructed volume fractions from the direct sampling cells were used as reference data for evaluating the accuracy of the volume fractions from the LDPA.

  • Objective : To evaluate the effectiveness and efficacy of delayed burr hole surgery in relation to the reduction of postoperative subdural hematoma (SDH) volume in patients with acute SDH. Methods : We retrospectively analyzed patients with acute SDH who received delayed burr hole surgery at our institute. Age, sex, Glasgow coma scale, maximal SDH thickness, volume of SDH, midline shifts, hounsfield unit (HU), and medical history of anticoagulant agent usage were recorded. Outcome measures were delayed operation day, reduction of SDH volume after operation, and the Glasgow outcome scale (GOS) score at discharge. The patients were divided two groups according to the postoperative reduction of volume of SDH (${\geq}50%$, group A; <50%, group B). We also analyzed variables and differences between two groups. Results : Eighteen patients were available for this analysis. The mean delayed of surgery was $13.9{\pm}7.5$ days. Maximal thickness of SDH was changed from $10.0{\pm}3.5mm$ to $12.2{\pm}3.7mm$. Volume of SDH was changed from $38.7{\pm}28.0mL$ to $42.6{\pm}29.6mL$. Midline shifts were changed from $5.8{\pm}3.3mm$ to $6.6{\pm}3.3mm$. HU were changed from $66.4{\pm}11.2$ to $53.2{\pm}20.6$. Post-operative reduction of SDH volume was $52.1{\pm}21.1%$. Eleven patients (61%) had a discharge GOS score of 1 (good recovery). Ten patients (56%) were enrolled in group A. Midline shifting was greater in group A than in group B ($7.4{\pm}3.3$ vs. $3.0{\pm}2.4mm$; p<0.02). The delay of surgery was shorter for group A than group B ($9.2{\pm}2.3$ vs. $19.8{\pm}7.7$ days; p<0.0008). Conclusion : Among well selected patients, delayed burr hole surgery in patients with acute SDH may be effective for reduction of SDH volume. Further studies will be necessary to establish the effectiveness and safety of delayed burr hole surgery in patients with acute SDH.

  • Many theories have been suggested to obtain an equation of state for polymeric liquids. Most of them are based on the concepts of cell, hole, free volume or lattice etc. One of the most succesful theories is an equation of state theory of Flory and his coworkers based on the concept of free volume. In this work, van der Waals potential used in Flory's theory was modified, giving a new equation of state for polymeric liquids. The calculated results showed that the new equation of state gave better agreement with experimental PVT data than Flory's theory.
