  • Characteristics of R-22 and R-134a two-phase vaporization in horizontal small tubes were investigated experimentally. In order to obtain the local heat transfer coefficients, the test was ran under heat flux range of 10 to $40\;kW/m^2$, mass flux range of 200 to $600\;kg/m^2s$, saturation temperature range of 5 to $10^{\circ}C$, and quality up to 1.0. The test section, which was made of stainless steel tube and heated uniformly by applying an electric current to the tube directly, have inner tube diameters of 0.5, 1.5 and 3.0 mm, and lengths of 0.33 and 2.0 m. The effects on heat transfer coefficient of mass flux, heat flux and inner tube diameter were presented. The experimental heat transfer coefficients were compared with the predictions using existing heat transfer coefficient correlations. A new boiling heat transfer coefficient correlation based on the superposition model, with considering the laminar flow, was developed.

  • Two-phase flow boiling heat transfer of R-410A in horizontal small tubes was reported in the present experimental study. The local heat transfer coefficients were obtained over a heat flux range of 5 to 40 kW/$m^2$, a mass flux range of 170 to 600 kg/$m^2s$, a saturation temperature range of 3 to $10^{\circ}C$, and quality up to 1.0. The test section was made of stainless steel tubes with inner diameters of 0.5 and 3.0 mm, and lengths of 330 and 3000 mm, respectively. The section was heated uniformly by applying a direct electric current to the tubes. The effects on heat transfer of mass flux, heat flux, inner tube diameter, and saturation temperature were presented. The experimental heat transfer coefficient is compared with six existing heat transfer coefficient correlations. A new boiling heat transfer coefficient correlation based on the superposition model for R-410A in small tubes was developed with mean deviation of 10.13%.

  • This paper is presented an experimental study of flow boiling heat transfer characteristics of ammonia, and is focused on pressure gradient and heat transfer coefficient of the refrigerant flow inside horizontal small tube with inner diameter of 3.0 mm and length of 2000 mm. The direct heating method is applied for supplying heat to the refrigerant, where the test tube is uniformly heated by electric current. The local heat transfer coefficients were obtained over a heat flux range of 20 to $80kW/m^2$, a mass flux range of 50 to $500kg/m^2s$, a saturation temperature range of 0 to $10^{\circ}C$, and quality up to 1.0. The pressure drops increase with increasing mass flux and heat flux, and with decreasing saturation temperature. The heat transfer coefficients increase with increasing mass flux and saturation temperature in middle and high quality region. And the local heat transfer coefficient increase with increasing heat flux in low quality region. The heat transfer coefficient of the experimental result was compared with six existing heat transfer coefficient correlation. A new boiling heat transfer coefficient correlation based on the superposition model for ammonia in small tubes is developed average deviation of -0.17% and mean deviation of 10.85%.

The pressure drop and local heat transfer coefficients were obtained over heat flux range of 5 to $40\;kW/m^2$, mass flux range of 70 to $600\;kg/m^2s$, saturation temperature range of 2 to $12^{\circ}C$, and quality up to 1.0 in test section with inner tube diameters of 3.0 and 0.5 mm, and lengths of 2000 and 330 mm, respectively. The section was heated uniformly by applying a direct electric current to the tubes. The effects of mass flux, heat flux, and inner tube diameter, on pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient are presented. The experimental results are compared against several existing correlations. A new boiling heat transfer coefficient correlation based on the superposition model for refrigerants in small tubes is developed.

  • The condensation pressure drop for R-22 and R-410A flowing in a small diameter tube was investigated. The test section is a counterflow heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and coolant flowing in the annulus. The test section consists of 1220 mm length with horizontal copper tube of 3.38 mm outer diameter and 1.77 mm inner diameter. The refrigerant mass fluxes ranged from 450 to $1050\;kg/m^2{\cdot}s$ and the average inlet and outlet qualities were 0.05 and 0.95, respectively. The main experimental results were summarized as follows : In the case of two-phase flow, the pressure drop increases with increasing mass flux and decreasing quality. The pressure drop of R-22 is slightly higher than that of R-410A for the same mass flux. Most of correlations proposed in the large diameter tube showed enormous deviations with experimental data.

  • This study is performed to performance of the combined system the GSHP (Ground Source Heat Pump) system with the Earth tube system using EnergyPlus program. The Earth tube system using fan is characteristics as supply lower (higher) air temperature than outdoor air temperature in cooling and heating seasons, the GSHP system is characteristics as small indoor air temperature variation range. As the results of Earth tube + GSHP system simulation, GSHP power can be reduced than the GSHP single operation as 17.3% in cooling seasons and 32.5% in heating seasons, the GSHP design capacity can be replaced more small size.

  • The evaporation heat transfer characteristics of propane(R-290) in horizontal small diameter tubes were investigated experimentally. The test tubes have inner diameters of 1 mm and 4 mm. Local heat transfer coefficients were measured at heat fluxes of 12, $24\;kW/m^2$, mass fluxes of 150, $300\;kg/m^2s$, and evaporation temperature of $15^{\circ}C$. The experimental results showed that the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R-290 has an effect on heat flux, mass flux, tube diameter, and vapor quality. The evaporation heat transfer of R-290 has an influenced on nucleate boiling at low quality and convective boiling at high quality. The evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R-290 increases with decreasing inner tube diameter. And the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R-290 is about 1~3 times higher than that of R-134a.

  • In the present study, the effects of film Reynolds number (60∼200) and volumetric content of non-absorbable gases (0∼10%) in water vapor on the absorption process of aqueous LiBr solution were investigated experimentally. The formation of solution film on the horizontal tubes of six rows was observed to be complete for Re>100. Transition film Reynolds number was found to exist above which the Nusselt number and Schmidt number diminishes with solution flow rate. As the concentration of non-absorbable gases increased, mass transfer rate decreased more seriously than heat transfer rate did. the degradation effects of non-absorbable gases seemed to be significant especially when small amount of non-absorbable gases was introduced to the pure water vapor.

  • Calculation of wear depth with regard to the wear topology is peformed numerically Four typical wear topology, that is round, crescent, flat, and diamond types are adopted to represent the configuration of wear volume. Diamond and flat types are the most severe topology for wear depth history, whereas round and crescent types have small increasing rate of wear depth to the wear volume. Based on this study we can guess that the most severe wear phenomena happens to be upper side of U-tubes in the KSNP SG, because flat or diamond wear will be generated by the wearing motion between tubes and diagonal, vertical, horizontal strips. The misalignment of tube at the stage of manufacturing or distortion of upper structure due to the thermal expansion or vibration of upper structure such as diagonal, vertical, and horizontal strips will be one of the main causes of flat or diamond wear.
