하이포이드 기어의 체적 최소화 최적 설계 (An Optimum Design Method of Hypoid Gear by Minimizing Volume)

  • The hypoid gear has advantage for the high reduction ratio and compactness. But, geometry design and strength evaluation of the hypoid gear depend on the machine tool of specific production companies because the geometry design and strength evaluation of the hypoid gear are complex and difficult. This paper proposes the development of the design programs to satisfying the geometry and strength of a hypoid gear through optimization technique using the genetic algorithm. The genetic algorithm is designed to optimize a method for minimizing volume. The existing design of hypoid gear in the forklift truck axle is compared with the results of developed optimum design program.

  • A hypoid gear is a type of spiral bevel gear whose axis does not intersect with the axis of the meshing gear. The size of a hypoid gear is compact and the ratio of contact is high; therefore, the noise is lower than in other types. Due to these characteristics, the hypoid gear is commonly used in manufacturing processes such as those of escalators and subway screen doors. The purpose of this paper is to develop a reducer using the hypoid gear. In order to check the stability of the proposed reducer, 3D modeling is carried out by CATIA, and a structural analysis is performed using FEM (a finite element method).

리타더 장착 버스 하이포이드 기어의 스코링에 관한 연구 (Study on Scoring of Hypoid Gear Set in Bus with Retarder)

  • A retarder, as a supplementary brake system that is not friction-based, is frequently used in heavy-duty vehicles generally to slow the vehicles down on inclines. The electric retarder mainly used in a heavy-duty bus is generally placed between the transmission and the axle. The rotor inside the retarder system is attached to the axle. The operation of the retarder within a driven vehicle generates reverse torque due to coast driving force on hypoid gears in the differential gear system. By the reverse torque, scoring or scuffing on the hypoid gear teeth may directly occur. The scoring may be generated due to excessive contact stresses on the tooth surface. In this study, tooth contact stresses and contact patterns were analysed in order to investigate on the tooth scoring phenomenon using a finite element analysis program T900 in which the Hertzian contact stress formula was taken. Backlash, wear and surface finish were considered in the finite element simulation on the scoring.

  • Hypoid gears are widely used in rear drive and 4WD vehicle axles. Investigation of their sensitivity to deflections is one of the most important aspects of their design and optimization procedures. The deflection test is performed in the actual gear mounting using completely processed gear. This test should cover the fun operating range of gear loads from no load to peak load. Under peak load the contact pattern should extend to the tooth boundaries without showing a concentration of the contact pattern at any point on the tooth surface. Transmission error is tested on an axle assembly triaxial real car load condition.

  • The noise . vibration characteristics of Hypoid gears which were made from three seperate materials(SCM, TSCM, SNCM) under the identical process were investigated for the sake of durability improvement of differential gear compatible with low level noise gear set. For this study, we developed a rig experimental equipment which can perform close noise.vibration experiment of differential gear. Consequently, we could analyze the noise.vibration characteristics of final reduction gear by materials, and also we observed changes in both metallic structure and hardness according to the materials of pinion gear. In addition to this, the correlation between the vibration of the differential gear and the interior noise of the passenger vehicles was proved by analyzing the results of rig vibration experiment and field noise test.

  • This paper presents the development of an algorithm for the reliability and life of a hypoid gear axle system (located in the last section of power train) in heavy vehicles. The algorithm is developed about expecting the reliability and service-life for applied loads on each component in the system using the Weibull's probabilistic distribution and the extended Palmgren's model. The probabilistic method is used to results. Also this model is involved in predicting the failure which is related to the number of load cycles with the approaching load. Then the precious evaluation of the reliability and life in the axle system can be effectively carried out. Thus the general procedures of a reliability and life design, including the mathematical formulation and numerical examples, are illustrated for a hypoid gear axle system.
