  • Reduction of number of actuators for independent modal space control In this paper, a new modified independent modal space control (IMSC), which relaxes the fundamental hardware limitation of IMSC, is suggested to handle the vibration and attitude control problem for flexible large structures. This method has adapted a new switching algorithm between controlled modes and a novel design technique for modal control force. The main advantage of this method is to minimize the discontinuity of the modal control forces and to assure the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop systems. This process is shown to be simple and efficient in a realistic example of vibration control of a cantiloever beam. It has been found that the modified IMSC suggested in this paper, which can reduce the number of actuators, is highly excellent compared to other previous methods in terms of the performance and stability of the vibration control systems.

  • In this study, a new modified independent modal space control (IMSC), which relaxes the fundamental hardware limitation of IMSC, is suggested to handle vibration control problems using a virtual passive controller. This method has adapted a new stable switching algorithm between controlled modes and a virtual vibration absorber as a virtual passive controller in the independent modal space. It has been found that the new modified IMSC suggested in this paper, which can reduce the number of actuators, is shown to be simple and efficient in a realistic example of vibration control of a cantilever beam.

  • In this paper, we investigate the vibration control of multimodal structures and present an efficient control law that requires less energy supply than active strategies. This strategy is called modal global semi-active control and is designed to work as effectively as the active control and consume less power which represents its major limitation. The proposed law is based on an energetic management of the optimal law such that the controller follows this latter only if there is sufficient energy which will be extracted directly from the system vibrations itself. The control algorithm is presented and validated for a cantilever beam structure subjected to external perturbations. Comparisons between the proposed law performances and those obtained by independent modal space control (IMSC) and semi-active control schemes are offered.

  • In this study, the effect of modal filter error on the vibration control characteristics of flexible structures is analyzed for IMSC(Independent Modal Space Control), and optimal sensor placement in the structural vibration control with consideration of performance of modal filter has been studied. An Lyapunov asymptotic stability condition has been derived, which depends on the magnitude of the modal filter errors. The extent of the response deviation of the closed-loop system is also derived and evaluated using operator techniques. A sensor placement technique has also been suggested to maximize the performance of the modal filter. It has been found by a series of simulation that the suggested sensor placement technique is very effective on the determination of the number and placement of sensors of modal filter in the structural vibration control.

  • In this study, the effect of parameter errors on the closed-loop behavior of flexible structure is analyzed for IMSC(Independent Modal Space Control) with PPF(Positive Position Feedback). If the control force designed on the basis of structure model with the parameter errors is applied to control the actual system, the closed-loop performance of the actural system will be degraded depending on the degree of the errors. An asymptotic stability condition has been derived, using Lyapunov approach, which is independent of the dynamic characteristics of the structure being controlled. The extent of deviation of the closed-loop performance from the designed one is also derived and evaluated using operator techniques. It has been found that the extent of the deviation is proportational to the magnitude of the parameter errors, and that the proportional coefficient depends on the control algorithm.

  • In this paper, a new algorithm for active control design of structures is proposed and investigated. The algorithm preserves the decoupling property of the modal vibration equation and eliminates the spillover problem, which is the main shortcoming in the independent modal space control(IMSC) algorithm. With linear quadratic regulator(LQR) control law, the analytical solution of algebraic Riccati equation and the optimal actuator control force are obtained, and the control design procedure is significantly simplified. A numerical example for the control design of a tall building subjected to wind loads demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in reducing the acceleration and displacement responses of tall buildings under wind actions.

  • In this study, the effect of parameter and modal filter errors on the vibration control characteristics of flexible structures is analyzed for IMSC ( Independent Modal Space Control). If the control force is designed on the basis of the mathematical model with the parameter and modal filter errors, the closed-loop performance of the vibration control system will be degraded depending on the magnitude of the errors. An asymptotic stability condition of the system with parameter and modal filter errors has more significant effect on the stability condition of the system with parameter and modal filter errors has been drived using Lyapunov approach. It has been found that modal filter error has more significant effect on the stability of closed-loop system than parameter error does. The extent of the response deviation of the closed-loop system is also derived and evaluated using operator thchniques.

  • Four cargo ships were ambushed by bombs in 2019 while navigating in the Strait of Hormuz. It was not clear who attacked those ships, however, many nations including the United States argued that it was Iran due to several reasons. The United States established the maritime collective defense system named International Maritime Security Construct (IMSC) in order to protect the maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, without disclosure against whom it is aimed. Persian, who uses the Persian language unlike other countries in the Middle East, is the major ethnic group in Iran, and most of them believe Shi'ah Islam while most of the Arabs in the Gulf countries adhere to Sunni Islam. It seems that historic and religious motives caused the bipolar system in the Middle East, however, it is plausible to analyze the system of international affairs in the Middle East via defensive or structural realism. Iran has attempted to maintain its hegemony in the region by supporting Shi'ah muslims in the neighboring countries as well as in the world by using military and economic means. In this context, Iran's maritime strategy is to maintain its maritime hegemony on the Persian Gulf via countering threats and cooperating with friendly navies by using the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy(IRIN) and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy(IRGCN). IRIN acts like other navies in the world: protecting national interest at sea, expending its operational areas to the outer seas, and enhancing cooperation with other navies. Meanwhile, IRGCN plays a role as an asymmetric force at sea. It is composed of small and fast asymmetric assets, which can ambush ships fast and furious. Considering the poor study for Iran's maritime strategy in Korea, analyzing the strategy is meaningful for the Republic of Korea Navy, which has operated the Cheonghae Unit for more than ten years since it has extended its operational area over the Strait of Hormuz. In order not to be drawn into the conflict in the Strait, research on the maritime strategy of Iran and other countries in the Middle East should be started.
