  • The handling process of car indoor air quality is composed of 2 steps of testing. First, assambly part is tested to find a source of car indoor VOCs. Second, cut sample of unit component is tested to find a source material of VOCs emission. If the source material of VOCs emission is found, it can reduce car and assembly part of VOCs by improving material. As cut sample testing has problem of emission from cut surface to find the source of VOCs, it needs to apply unit components testing method. The aim of study is to evaluate VOCs impact factor of unit components in assembly parts. ISO 12219-5 test method reflects not only material effect but also surface area effect by testing unit component without cutting. The unit components of doortrim and console, were tested by ISO12219-5. And it could figure what unit component is main source of VOCs in assembly. And quantity conversion Factor which gets by testing assembly and unit components can be used to make guideline of ISO 12219-5.

Evaluation of volatile organic compounds emitted from door-trim armrest using micro chamber and 20 L static chamber (마이크로 챔버와 20 L static chamber를 이용한 도어트림 암레스트로부터 방출되는 휘발성 유기화합물 평가)

  • In present, evaluation method for car cabin air quality has been developed in ISO, China, Japan. Also The management standard for new produced car has been applied since 1, July, 2010. To manage car cabin air quality, It is important to evaluate VOC emitted from interior material. In this study, complete component of door trim armrest was evaluated in accordance with ISO 12219-5, cut component was evaluated in accordance with ISO 12219-3. The vapour gas was collected with stainless tube packed with Tenax TA and analyzed with TD-GC/MS. It was confirmed that emission rate of each compounds was difficult in each evaluation method. As a result, to evaluating each components composing door trim armrest, main sources of emitting VOCs in door trim armrest were PP substrate and adhesive.

Control of relative humidity in the static bag emission test method by adding water and its effect on formaldehyde emission intensity (백을 이용한 정적 방출시험 방법에서 수분공급을 통한 상대습도조절과 포름알데하이드의 방출강도에 미치는 영향)

  • Rapid screening method for the determination of the emissions of pollutants from vehicle interior parts and materials have been developed as ISO 12219-2 which is using bag and based on a static condition. The method was not controlled humidity in the test bag, so it is not suitable test method for formaldehyde emission test which is highly related to humidity condition. In this study, possibility of control humidity in the static test bag by adding extra water and the effect of humidity condition for formaldehyde emissions have been investigated. The relative humidity in the test bag was affected not only amount of water added also material of test bag and test specimen. The emission intensity of formaldehyde was increased according to increasing relative humidity in test bag. But excessively supplied water was condensed on the inner surface of test bag and surface of sample specimen that were sorption formaldehyde and were reduced its emission intensity.
