Developing the Evaluation System of ITS Device's Performance (ITS 장비 성능평가방법 및 성능평가시설 구축)

  • Recently, ITS has been deployed nationwide and at the same time, the demand for the better accuracy and higher quality of traffic information has been increased. Yet, there is no standard evaluation methods or evaluation equipments to verify ITS device's performance, being unable to secure reliable traffic data. In this study, the standard evaluation methods for ITS device's performance are studied by reviewing other nations' evaluation methods and the evaluation system is developed.

  • The ITS performance evaluation has been performed in the evaluation of traffic data collection equipment. However, evaluation of the data collection equipment alone cannot guarantee the reliability of the traffic information. So, ITS service evaluation has to be implemented institutionally. In this study, an evaluation method has been prepared to evaluate the accuracy of travel time information in road sections. In addition, a piece of portable reference equipment was developed to collect travel time data on the road. Field tests were performed on two national road sections managed by the Seoul Construction and Management Administration (SCMA) to prepare an evaluation method considering field conditions and evaluate the reference equipment's performance. Based on the test results, the improvement of the reference equipment to collect more samples and the adjustment of collection points were discussed.

  • This paper discusses performance evaluation methodologies for wired/wireless Ethernet adaptors. This paper defines test cases for performance evaluation of LAN adaptor and its environments. Performance evaluation of LAN adaptor is mote complex as compared with interconnection devices such as Ethernet HUB and Ethernet switch, because its performance depends on the system on which the adaptor is plugged. Such dependencies include CUP type, RAM size, system bus architecture(PCI bus clock), etc.

  • The balanced scorecard has drawn attention from many researchers in various fields since its appearance in 1992. It became a norm for performance evaluation framework in many areas, such as marketing, information system evaluation, strategic planning, etc. Centered in the large companies in Korea, the balanced scorecard has been popularly used as a performance evaluation tool for human resource management. Now we Question its applicability to performance evaluation tool even in small business. This study tried to apply the balanced scorecard in developing an information system for performance evaluation in a small business. The study showed that the balanced scorecard can be nicely used in small business as a performance evaluation tool. The process of developing an information system is described in detail. The practitioners are to obtain a lot of insights in designing their human resource management systems from the study results.

  • Measuring and evaluating the business performance plays a very important role in managing business. It is both because business performance, in any types of industry, can be evaluated and managed properly only when the measurement of its performance is estimated and because its performance can be improved through an efficient and effective management. Therefore it is essential to build up the performance evaluation system to raise management efficiency of food service industry, to reinforce competitive power of food service industry. In this study, investigated the present performance evaluation system situation of the food service industry and introduced BSC as the main conceptional framework for evaluating the performance of the food service industry. Finally, this study discussed the possible method for building a balanced scorecard to the food service industry.

Therefore it is essential to build up the performance evaluation system to raise management efficiency of the foodservice industry, to reinforce competitive power of the food service industry. This study tried to propose a novel point of prospective and method in which the performance evaluation in any family restaurant should be illuminated and be performed. In this study, BSC provided the main conceptional framework for evaluating the performance of a family restaurant, and evaluation items of BSC four prospectives - financial, customers, internal business process, and learning and growth-were adjusted so as to be fitted into the business field. Furthermore, this study verified the validity of the proposed performance evaluation method through specific case analyses and used AHP to quantify its validity objectively. Finally, this study found the fact that non-financial prospectives, compared to financial prospectives, should be more importantly considered as the performance evaluation index of the family restaurants. Especially, the study showed that the proportion of performance evaluation indexes related to Customers prospective and Learning and Growth prospective revealed very highly, therefore variables such as customer satisfaction index, per employee productivity, education and training, customer response rate, employee satisfaction index should be emphasized as key factors at the process of selecting indexes and measuring their performance evaluation of the food service industry.

  • We herein propose a new design procedure of a flexible container ship model where the vertical bending and torsional vibration modes are similar to its prototype. To achieve similarity in torsional vibration mode shapes, the height of the shear center of the model must be located below the bottom hull, similar to an actual container ship with large opening decks. Therefore, we designed a ship model by imparting appropriate stiffness to the hull, using urethane foam without a backbone. We built a container ship model according to this design strategy and validated its dynamic elastic properties using a decay test. We measured wave-induced structural vibrations and present the results of tank experiments in regular and freak waves.

A Study on Performace Evaluation of ITS Detectors using UAV (UAV를 활용한 ITS검지기 성능평가에 관한 연구)

  • This study focuses on utilizing drones for performance evaluation of ITS detectors and analyzing economic feasibility when performance evaluation is conducted by the traffic management center's own personnel using drones. The study sites were selected from DSRC, video detector, and radar detector locations and drone filming was conducted to obtain travel speed, queue length, and delay time and compare with the detector data. It was shown that drones can be very effectively used to evaluate performance of major ITS detectors such as DSRC and video detectors. In addition, it was analyzed that a drone operated by the traffic management center's own personnel provides very economic solution for ITS detector performance evaluation when compared to consignment by external agencies.

Empirical Validation of Customer Characteristics on Internet Shopping Mall Usage (사용자 특성이 인터넷 쇼핑몰 이용에 미치는 영향에 관한 실증적 연구)

  • This study establishes key factors on ISM (Internet Shopping Mall) performance in Korea. The four factors are derived from the relevant literature and clarified the concept of ISM characteristics, customer characteristics, ISM evaluation level. and perceived risks by distinguishing between its components and determinants. ISM performance indicators were derived from the previous studios classifying by ISM attitude and ISM usage. We examine on the impact of ISM characteristics and customer characteristics on the ISM evaluation level, then its level and perceived risks on the ISM performance. Hypotheses on four factors of ISM performance were tested for 172 respondents. Results indicate that four factors may partially serve as key predictors on ISM performance. ISM characteristics and customer characteristics was found to be positively influenced on ISM evaluation level, and its level also positively affected on ISM performance while perceived risks negatively affected on ISM performance.

A Case Study on the Performance Evaluation of a Not-for-Profit Organization by the Balanced Scorecard Perspectives: Focused on the Korea Shipping Association

  • This paper aims to examine the use of the Balanced Scorecard in a not-for-profit organization (the Korea Shipping Association). The KSA has begun using the Balanced Scorecard paradigm in its strategic planning process. In this paper an overview is presented of the basic concepts of the Balanced Scorecard including the financial perspective, customer perspective, internal process perspective, and learning and growth perspective. The accounting system and its pros and cons of the KSA are then surveyed in terms of its performance evaluation. The application of the Balanced Scorecard approach to the KSA is discussed in detail. Implications in using the Balanced Scorecard are discussed. Finally, conclusions regarding the use of the Balanced Scorecard in a not-for-profit organization are presented. Through this paper, the comprehensive understanding of the performance evaluation for not-for-profit organizations as the KSA would be promoted.
