A compact imaging spectrometer (COMIS) for use in the STSAT3 microsatellite is currently under development. It is scheduled to be launched into a low Sun-synchronous Earth orbit (${\sim}700km$) by the end of 2010. COMIS was inspired by the success of CHRIS, which is a small hyperspectral imager developed for the ESA microsatellite PROBA. COMIS is designed to achieve nearly equivalent imaging capabilities of CHRIS in a smaller (65 mm diameter and 4.3 kg mass) and mechanically superior (in terms of alignment and robustness) package. Its main operational goal will be the imaging of Earth's surface and atmosphere with ground sampling distances of ${\sim}30m$ at the $18{\sim}62$ spectral bands ($4.0{\sim}1.05{\mu}m$). This imaging will be used for environmental monitoring, such as the in-land water quality monitoring of Paldang Lake, which is located next to Seoul, South Korea. The optics of COMIS consists of two parts: imaging telescope and dispersing relay optics. The imaging telescope, which operates at an f-ratio of 4.6, forms an image (of Earth's surface or atmosphere) onto an intermediate image plane. The dispersion relay optics disperses the image and relay it onto a CCD plane. All COMIS lenses and mirrors are spherical and are made from used silica exclusively. In addition, the optics is designed such that the optical axis of the dispersed image is parallel to the optical axis of the telescope. Previous efforts focused on manufacturing ease, alignment, assembly, testing, and improved robustness in space environments.
A low-dispersion fiber feed Littrow-mounted grating spectrometer for education was designed and fabricated. The dispersion element is a reflective type blazed grating Edmundoptics NT 46-075 (spatial frequency 600 lines/mm, dimension $30mm{\times}30mm$, blazed angle 8.6 degree). The optical fiber coupler module for optical guiding from telescope to spectrometer is composed of a multi-mode FC connector - FC connector optical fiber patch cord (core/cladding diameter $50{\mu}m/125{\mu}m$) and two 1.25" throw-tube couplers. The lens for collimating and imaging is a general purpose focal length 50 mm camera lens (f/1.8). The device for optical path control is a rectangular prism (size $25mm{\times}25mm$). The imaging camera sensor is a Meade DSI Pro 2 CCD sensor (black and white, $752{\times}582$ pixels and pixel size $8.3{\mu}m{\times}8.6{\mu}m$). Softwares for data logging and analysis consist of Meade Autostar Suite, NIH imagej and Vernier Logger Pro 3. The wavelength coverage range of the spectrometer is 205 nm at central wavelength 550 nm. The wavelength resolution is 1.7 nm.
This paper reports on the stray light analysis results of a compact imaging spectrometer (COMIS) for a microsatellite STSAT-3. COMIS images Earth's surface and atmosphere with ground sampling distances of 27 m at the 18~62 spectral bands (0.4 ~ 1.05 ${\mu}m$) for the nadir looking at an altitude of 700 km. COMIS has an imaging telescope and an imaging spectrometer box into which three electronics PCBs are embedded. The telescope images a $27m{\times}28km$ area of Earth surface onto a slit of dimensions $11.8{\mu}m{\times}12.1mm$. This corresponds to a ground sampling distance of 27 m and a swath width of 28 km for nadir looking posture at an altitude of 700 km. Then the optics relays and disperses the slit image onto the detector thereby producing a monochrome image of the entrance slit formed on each row of detector elements. The spectrum of each point in the row is imaged along a detector column. The optical mounts and housing structures are designed in order to prevent stray light from arriving onto the image and so deteriorating the signal to noise ratio (SNR). The stray light analysis, performed by a non-sequential ray tracing software (LightTools) with three dimensional housing and lens modeling, confirms that the ghost and stray light arriving at the detector plane has the relative intensity of ${\sim}10^{-5}$ and furthermore it locates outside the concerned image size i.e. the field of view of the optics.
In Korea Basic Science Institute(KBSI) the remote data analysis system is developed for the joint use of advanced equipments. This system enables the researchers to access the datas which are produced at KBSI and analyse them by Java program on the Web,. Except Web browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator no additional softwares are required for analysing data. We have developed remote data analysis systems for five major equipments which KBSI supports for the researchers, The systems which are developed are those for NMR spectrometer High Reso-lution Tandem mass Spectrometer Microscopic Imaging System DNA Sequencer and Natural Ra-dioactivity Measruement System, These programs work on any computer platform and any operat-ing system only if the internet is available. This remote data analysis system will be served as a part of Collaboratory the remote collaborative system.
Triply encoded HTIS(hadamard transform imaging spectrometer) is a system which applies the grill spectrometer to the HTIS. we consider a nonideality of mask transparent characteristic in estimating spectrum. Triply encoded system increases the SNR(signal to noise ration) by multiplexing effect. In this paper, we suggest an advanced $T^{-1}$ method for spectrum recovery. Then, we proved the superiority of the suggested method by comparing the average MSE(mean square error) of the other recovery methods.

A Raman spectrometer is essential for analyzing the characteristics of graphene. The commercial micro-Raman spectrometer is useful for measuring small areas, but due to the small measuring area, it has limited use in industry, as a sampling measure. This paper suggests a Raman spectrometer able to get a large area image of graphene. By using this image, we can get information on defects and on the presence of graphene. Therefore, this equipment can be used for quality assessment for production of graphene.
As an effective means of remotely detecting the spectral information of the object, the spectral calibration for the Savart polarization interference imaging spectrometer (SPIIS) is a basis and prerequisite of information quantification, and its experimental calibration scheme is firstly proposed in this paper. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the spectral information acquisition, the linear interpolation, cubic spline interpolation, and piecewise cubic interpolation algorithms are adopted, and the precision of the quadratic polynomial fitting is the highest, whose fitting error is better than 5.8642 nm in the wavelength range of [500 nm, 820 nm]. Besides, the inversed value of the spectral resolution for the monochromatic light is greater than the theoretical value, and the deviation between them becomes larger with the wavelength increasing, which is mainly caused by the structural design of the SPIIS, together with the rationality of the spectral restoration algorithm and the selection of the maximum optical path difference (OPD). This work demonstrates that the SPIIS has achieved high performance assuring the feasibility of its practical use in various fields.
A compact imaging spectrometer (COMIS) was developed for a microsatellite STSAT-3. The satellite is now rescheduled to be launched into a low sun-synchronous Earth orbit (~700 km) by the end of 2012. Its main operational goal is the imaging of the Earth's surface and atmosphere with ground sampling distance of 27 m and 2 - 15 nm spectral resolution over visible and near infrared spectrum (0.4 - 1.05 ${\mu}m$). A flight model of COMIS was developed following an engineering model that had successfully demonstrated hyperspectral imaging capability and structural rigidity. In this paper we report the environmental test results of the flight model. The mechanical stiffness of the model was confirmed by a small shift of the natural frequency i.e., < 1% over 10 gRMS random vibration test. Electrical functions of the model were also tested without showing any anomalies during and after vacuum thermal cycling test with < $10^{-5}$ torr and $-30^{\circ}C\;-\;35^{\circ}C$. The imaging capability of the model, represented by a modulation transfer function (MTF) value at the Nyquist frequency, was also kept unvaried after all those environmental tests.
In this study we demonstrate ultrahigh-resolution spectral domain optical coherence tomography (UHR SD-OCT) with a linear-wavenumber (k) spectrometer, to accelerate signal processing and to display two-dimensional (2-D) images in real time. First, we performed a numerical simulation to find the optimal parameters for the linear-k spectrometer to achieve ultrahigh axial resolution, such as the number of grooves in a grating, the material for a dispersive prism, and the rotational angle between the grating and the dispersive prism. We found that a grating with 1200 grooves and an F2 equilateral prism at a rotational angle of $26.07^{\circ}$, in combination with a lens of focal length 85.1 mm, are suitable for UHR SD-OCT with the imaging depth range (limited by spectrometer resolution) set at 2.0 mm. As guided by the simulation results, we constructed the linear-k spectrometer needed to implement a UHR SD-OCT. The actual imaging depth range was measured to be approximately 2.1 mm, and axial resolution of $3.8{\mu}m$ in air was achieved, corresponding to $2.8{\mu}m$ in tissue (n = 1.35). The sensitivity was -91 dB with -10 dB roll-off at 1.5 mm depth. We demonstrated a 128.2 fps acquisition rate for OCT images with 800 lines/frame, by taking advantage of NVIDIA's compute unified device architecture (CUDA) technology, which allowed for real-time signal processing compatible with the speed of the spectrometer's data acquisition.
Fundus images can reflect ocular diseases and systemic diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension. Thus, research on fundus-detection equipment is of great importance. The fundus camera has been widely used as a kind of noninvasive detection equipment. Most existing devices can only obtain two-dimensional (2D) retinal-image information, yet the fundus of the human eye also has spectral characteristics. The fundus has many pigments, and their different distributions in the eye lead to dissimilar tissue penetration for light waves, which can reflect the corresponding fundus structure. To obtain more abundant information and improve the detection level of equipment, a snapshot nonmydriatic fundus imaging spectral system, including fundus-imaging spectrometer and illumination system, is studied in this paper. The system uses a microlens array to realize snapshot technology; information can be obtained from only a single exposure. The system does not need to dilate the pupil. Hence, the operation is simple, which reduces its influence on the detected object. The system works in the visible and near-infrared bands (550-800 nm), with a volume less than 400 mm × 120 mm × 75 mm and a spectral resolution better than 6 nm.
