Li metal is accepted as a good counter electrode for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) as the active material in Li-ion and Li-ion polymer batteries. We examined the existence of signal noise from a Li-metal counter quantitatively as a preliminary study. We suggest an electrochemical cell with one switchable electrode to obtain the exact impedance signal of active materials. To verify the effectiveness of the switchable electrode, EIS measurements of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) before severe $Li^+$ intercalation to SFG6 graphite (at > ca. 0.25 V vs. Li/$Li^+$) were taken. As a result, the EIS spectra without the signal of Li metal were obtained and analyzed successfully for the following parameters i) $Li^+$ conduction in the electrolyte, ii) the geometric resistance and constant phase element of the electrode (insensitive to the voltage), iii) the interfacial behavior of the SEI related to the $Li^+$ transfer and residence throughout the near-surface (sensitive to voltage), and iv) the term reflecting the differential limiting capacitance of $Li^+$ in the graphite lattice.

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) has been extensively used to try to evaluate the corrosion state of the steel/concrete system. This technique is attractive because, in theory, used in a wide range of frequencies, it can give detailed information about the mechanisms and kinetics of the electrochemical reactions. Impedance measurements were performed using potential control and measuring the corresponding current response. One-year-old southern exposure test. specimens were used in the current study. The effectiveness of corrosion inhibiting additives was evaluated. The corrosion current densities estimated by impedance measurements were confirmed by those determined using linear polarization techniques. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long-term-performance potential of the corrosion inhibitors in chloride contaminated reinforce concrete.

Nd-doped $BiFeO_3$ materials were synthesized via a sol-gel method. The crystal structure, magnetic properties, and complex impedance spectroscopy of multiferroic $Bi_{1-x}Nd_xFeO_3$ (BNFO) materials were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman scattering, vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and complex impedance spectroscopy. Our results show that the lattice crystal constants (a, c) and the ratio c/a of BNFO materials decreased with increasing Nd concentration. All samples exhibited weak ferromagnetism at room temperature, and the magnetization of samples was enhanced by the presence of $Nd^{3+}$ ions. There was an enhancement in the spontaneous magnetization of BFO with increasing Nd concentration, which is attributable to the collapse of the spin cycloid structure.
In this work, we studied a fluorite structure oxides: Yttria stabilized zirconia, (YSZ); Gd doped $CeO_2$ (GDC); erbia stabilized $Bi_2O_3$ (ESB); Zr doped erbia stabilized $Bi_2O_3$ (ZESB); Ca doped erbia stabilized $Bi_2O_3$ (CESB) in the temperature range of 250 to $600^{\circ}C$ using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). As is well known, grain boundary blocking effect was observed in YSZ and GDC. However, there is no grain boundary effect on ESB, ZESB, and CESB. The Nyquist plots of these materials exhibit a single arc at low temperature. This means that there is no space charge effect on ${\delta}-Bi_2O_3$. In addition, impedance data were analyzed by using the brick layer model. We indirectly demonstrate that grain boundary ionic conductivity is similar to or even higher than bulk ionic conductivity on cubic bismuth oxide.
The investigation of the equivalent circuit models for the electrode/electrolyte interface has been pursued for a long time by several researchers. Previous circuit models fit the experimental results in limited conditions such as frequency range, type of electrode, or electrolyte. This paper describes a new electrical circuit model and its capability of fitting the experimental results. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used to characterize the interface for Au, Pt, and stainless steel electrode in 0.9% NaCl solution. Both the proposed model and the previous model were applied to fit the measured impedance results for comparison. The proposed model fits the experimental data more accurately than other models especially at the low frequency range, and it enables us to predict the impedance at very low frequency range, including DC, using the proposed model.

The presence of the conduction interface in epitaxial $LaAlO_3/SrTiO_3$ thin films has opened up challenging applications which can be expanded to next-generation nano-electronics. The metallic conduction path is associated with two adjacent insulating materials. Such device structure is applicable to frequency-dependent impedance spectroscopy. Impedance spectroscopy allows for simultaneous measurement of resistivity and dielectric constants, systematic identification of the underlying electrical origins, and the estimation of the electrical homogeneity in the corresponding electrical origins. Such unique capability is combined with the intentional control on the interface composition composed of $SrTiO_3$ and $CaTiO_3$, which can be denoted by $SrxCa1-_xTiO_3$. The underlying $Sr_xCa1-_xTiO_3$ interface was deposited using pulsed-laser deposition, followed by the epitaxial $LaAlO_3$ thin films. The platinum electrodes were constructed using metal shadow masks, in order to accommodate 2-point electrode configuration. Impedance spectroscopy was performed as the function of the relative ratio of Sr to Ca. The respective impedance spectra were analyzed in terms of the equivalent circuit models. Furthermore, the impedance spectra were monitored as a function of temperature. The ac-based characterization in the 2-dimensional conduction path supplements the dc-based electrical analysis. The artificial manipulation of the interface composition will be discussed towards the electrical application of 2-dimensional materials to the semiconductor devices in replacement for the current Si-based devices.
The electrochemical behavior of oxide layers on aluminium was studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Impedance spectra were taken at a compact and a porous oxide layer of Al. The anodic films on Al have a variable stoichiometry with gradual reduction of oxygen deficiency towards the oxide-electrolyte interface. Thus, the interpretation of impedance spectra for oxide layers is complicated, with the impedance of surface layers differing from those of ideal capacitors. This layer behavior with conductance gradients was caused by an inhomogeneous dielectric. The frequency response cannot be described by a single RC element. The oxide layers of Al are properly described by the Young model of dielectric constant with a vertical decay of conductivity.
The corrosion resistance of several kind of ME (Metal Evaporated) tape has been investigated both in mild sulfuric acid solution and NaCl solution by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. It was found that the degradation of ME tapes was accelerated with increasing the concentration of sulfuric acid. There was no significant change in corrosion resistance when the concentration of NaCl was under 3.5 wt%. However, the impedance value decreased when the concentration of NaCl was up to 10 wt%. The degradation of backside of ME tapes was also investigated by AC impedance measurements. The results showed that the impedance behavior of backside plastic film changed with the concentration of sulfuric acid even at the beginning of immersion, implying the changing of the permeability for the backside of ME tapes. It was also found that the corrosion resistance of DVC (Digital Video Cassette) ME tape was better that that of Hi-8mm ME tapes in sulfuric acid solutions. Also, the backside of DVC ME tape showed better water resistance than that of Hi8 ME tapes.
In this paper, criteria for better selection of a supercapacitor through EIS (Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) experiments are presented. The performance characteristics of a supercapacitor are thoroughly analyzed in terms of losses and available energy to select the optimal product. The validity of the proposed criteria is demonstrated through the computer simulations and experiments on a fuel cell vehicle using a supercapacitor module with the FTP-72 urban dynamometer driving schedule.

Impedance spectroscopy allows for simultaneous characterization of interface-controlled materials and/or devices in terms of electrical and dielectric aspects. Recently, there have tremendous interests in 2-dimensional electron gas layers (2DEGs) involving $LaAlO_3$ and $SrTiO_3$ whose features incorporates extremely high mobility and carrier concentrations along with metallic responses unlike the constituents, $LaAlO_3$ and $SrTiO_3$. Impedance spectroscopy offers the following unique features, such as simultaneous determination of conductivity and dielectric constants, identification of electrical origins among bulk-, grain boundary-, and electrode-based responses. Impedance spectroscopy was applied to the 2DEG $LaAlO_3/SrTiO_3$ system, in order to extract the electrical and dielectric information operating in the 2DEG system. The unique responses of the 2DEG system are investigated in terms of temperature and device structures. The underlying mechanism of the 2DEG system is proposed with the aim to optimizing the high-mobility 2DEG responses and to expedite the associated devices towards the high-density integrated chips.
