  • Recently, indoor air quality (IAQ) has been one of the major concerns of people. Indoor parking lots are subject to be exposed to high concentrations of air pollutants emitted from vehicles. This study was performed to investigate indoor air quality (IAQ) at indoor parking lots. Sampling sites were selected 5 indoor parking lots. Target indoor air quality parameters include a number of criteria pollutants such PM$_{10}$, CO, CO$_2$, and HCHO. In addition, a variation of IAQ according to ventilation system operating was measured at C site (underground parking lot). In general, all pollutants were maintained below indoor air quality maintenance standards. The indoor air quality at indoor parking lots was affected by the availability of the ventilation facility and their operation frequency. At the underground parking lot (C site) with ventilation system, TVOC concentration according to ventilation system operating were found to be lower operating (488.2 ${\mu}g/m^3$) than non-operating (1,401.2 ${\mu}g/m^3$).

  • The purpose of this study is to contribute to the improvement of indoor air quality management in dental clinic by investigating the level of indoor air quality recognition among dental clinic workers. The questionnaire survey was conducted for about 4 weeks from May 20 to June 20, 2018 in dental clinics located in Jeollanamdo area and 143 were used as the analysis data. The method of indoor air quality management in dental clinic was preferred to "natural ventilation" method and the number of natural ventilation was 1 to 2 times per day and the results of survey on indoor environment satisfaction showed that satisfaction level was lowest in noise and smell items. The types of subjective symptoms experienced by workers working at dental clinics are "cough", "eye burn", and "headache" and a survey on the degree of the relationship between subjective symptoms and indoor air quality showed that 94.4% (135) of respondents answered "very relevant" and "slightly related". As a result of multiple regression analysis, the variables affecting the indoor air quality satisfaction of the dental clinic staff were analyzed as the items such as lighting, noise, main work, number of patients, comparing indoor and outdoor air quality and among them, "comparing indoor and outdoor air quality" was analyzed as having a great influence. To improve the indoor air quality satisfaction of dental clinic worker adequate ventilation, designate the person responsible for the indoor air quality management and periodic measurement efforts will be necessary.

  • Various devices have been emerging as a means of measuring indoor air quality, and among them, there are devices that support real-time remote monitoring through IoT technology and a cloud environment. To improve indoor air quality, based on the results determined by measuring devices, air purifiers or ventilation systems may need to be operated, and temperature and humidity control may be required. In this paper, we propose a design of indoor air quality measuring devices required for indoor air quality evaluation, and of the system needed to control relevant devices to improve indoor air quality through the interaction with the measuring devices. Currently, the servers for the interaction of indoor air quality devices and IoT devices are divided into conventional server type and serverless type, comparing the differences in response time of IoT devices to changes of indoor air quality.

  • Despite the wide distribution of air pollutants, the concentrations of indoor air pollutants may be the dominant risk factor in personal exposure due to the fact that most people spend an average of 80% of their time in enclosed buildings. Researches for improvement of indoor air quality have been developed such as installation of air cleaning device, ventilation system, titanium dioxide$(TiO_2)$ coating and so on. However, it is difficult to evaluate the magnitude of improvement of indoor air quality in field study because indoor air quality can be affected by source generation, outdoor air level, ventilation, decay by reaction, temperature, humidity, mixing condition and so on. In this study, evaluation of reduction of formaldehyde and nitrogen dioxide emission rate in indoor environments by $TiO_2$ coating material was carried out using mass balance model in indoor environment. we proposed the evaluation method of magnitude of improvement in indoor air quality, considering outdoor level and ventilation. Since simple indoor concentration measurements could not properly evaluate the indoor air quality, outdoor level and ventilation should be considered when evaluate the indoor net quality.

  • Together with the concern about the indoor air quality as sick house syndrome, the Ministry of Environment announced "Indoor Air Quality Control Law for the Multi Purpose Facility," which made the interests to be focused in the urgent understanding of current condition and preparation of measures about the indoor air pollution. The law was revised to obligatorily notify the amount of Formaldehyde and Volatile Organic Compounds in the case of newly constructed apartments with more than 100 houses. School also have its own indoor air quality guideline. Indoor air quality in school is very important because, children who very weak to indoor pollutants reside long time in there. The purpose of this paper is to to survey indoor air quality in school by field measurement. Field measurements were performed in 11 schools which were selected from 3 major cities(Incheon, Dae-jeon, chuncheon) in korea, Totally concentration of indoor pollutants were determined in 32 classroom. Target air pollutants were TVOC, formaldehyde, dust, CO, CO2. For the result of this investigation, Indoor air quality in classroom was very poor and it was found that some pollutants(TVOC, float bacteria) exceed the guideline.

  • This paper discusses the importance of indoor air quality based on literaure review of domestic and foreign studies. A number of international efforts to propose standards and guidelines for indoor environmental quality are also reviewed. The pattern of major studies on indoor air quality focussed on characterizaton of gaseous pollutants, particulates, and other specific pollutants during the past decades, whereas VOCs, specific carcinogen, and microbiological agents might be good target pollutants to investigate the effects of human health in recent years. Management of indoor air quality requires a different approach than that adopted for outdoor air. Adequate ventilation of the indoor environment is essential, and a balance between energy conservation and the need for good air quality is required. The ways for managing indoor air quality that will be of great importance are discussed a role of control policy for guidance on how to achieve good indoor air quality.

  • Schools have significant and serious indoor environmental health problem, of which indoor air quality (IAQ) in school building may affect the health of the students and indirectly affect learning performance. Schools are of special concern when regarding indoor exposure to air pollutants, because students are particularly sensitive to pollutants and spend a significant amount of time in that environment. Therefore researches for improvement of indoor air quality have been developed such as installation of air cleaning device, ventilation system, titanium dioxide(TiO2) coating and so on. However, it is difficult to evaluate the magnitude of improvement of indoor air quality in field study because indoor air quality can be affected by source generation, outdoor air level, ventilation, decay by reaction, temperature, humidity, mixing condition and so on. In this study, evaluation of reduction of formaldehyde emission rate in school indoor environments by far-Infrared ray coating material was carried out using mass balance model in indoor environment. we proposed the evaluation method of magnitude of improvement in indoor air quality, considering outdoor level and ventilation. Since simple indoor concentration measurements could not properly evaluate the indoor air quality, outdoor level and ventilation should be considered when evaluate the indoor air quality.

  • In Korea, studies on the indoor air quality have been conducted since mid of 1980s. The turning point occurred in 2003 by establishing the act of the indoor air quality management for public facilities. According to the law, the basic plan for indoor air quality management is prepared by government every five years, affecting greatly governmental policy and related academia and industries. Indoor air quality survey was mostly carried out among indoor air quality researches. After then, assessment of health effect and air cleaning technology were studied. Although various control technologies for particle, bioaerosol, odor, and hazardous chemicals have been applied to indoor environments, breakthrough technologies are needed to solve real problems facing at the applied environments. In the future, issue of indoor air quality is more interested and both management policy and control technology are key factors in order to realize comfort and healthy indoor environments.

  • The objective of the study is to analyze the relative performance of factors affecting indoor air quality in multi-residential buildings in Korea. A study of the factors affecting indoor air quality is essential for establishing indoor air quality management strategies effectively. To observe the indoor air quality response following a modification of a given parameter, a sensitivity analysis was performed. The factors examined for the analysis include; wall/ceiling paper, adhesive for wall/ceiling paper, floor material, adhesive for floor material, and ventilation rate. The Experimental Design which identifies main effects among the design parameters with a few experiments was used to decrease the number of experiments. The simulation for indoor air quality was undertaken using a validated equation. Then, ANOVA(Analysis of Variance) was performed to evaluate the relative importance of each parameter affecting the indoor air quality. The result of the study indicates that the indoor air quality may be influenced most by adhesive for wall/ceiling paper, followed by ventilation rate and adhesive for floor material.
