  • The importance of information systems(IS) operations and maintenance is increasing as the costs of IS operations and maintenance take larger share of total IS costs and organization's dependency on IS is increasing. However, this area has received relatively little attention from scholars and practitioners despite of its significance. The main objectives of this study are to provide practical guidelines for improving IS operations and maintenance practices, and to propose a research framework for this area. To accomplish this objectives, the following three issues are investigated. First, IS operations and maintenance practices of a case company are analyzed. Second, the current practices are compared with best practices. Finally, suggestions are made based on the analyses to improve the IS operations and maintenance practices.

  • As we live in real If era, If become a mandatory component for nations and organizations to survive in severe competition. If is also thought of as strategic asset for effective business operations, yet there is no proved statement on the interoperability and system integration which causes serious problem in terms of requirement engineering among current systems. The National Defense Enterprise Architecture Framework is a strategic information asset base, which define the military operation activities for the mission, the information necessary for military operations, the technologies necessary for implementing new technology in response to changing operational needs. It is an integrated model or representation. Information Systems will be evolved by the National Defense Enterprise Architecture framework. The purpose of this framework is to present overall picture of national defense information system domain so that information systems are interoperated, integrated and information sharing is increased among affiliated organization of Defense Military.

  • This paper presents a hybrid decimal division algorithm to improve division speed. In a binary number system, non-restoring algorithm has a smaller number of operations than restoring algorithm. In decimal number system, however, the number of operations differs with respect to quotient values. Since one digit ranges 0 to 9 in decimal, the proposed hybrid algorithm employ either non-restoring or restoring algorithm on each digit to reduce iterative operations. The selection of the algorithm is based on the remainder values. The proposed algorithm improves computation speed substantially over conventional algorithms by decreasing the number of operations.

  • This paper proposes a digital forensic method by an evaluation function based on timestamp changing patterns. Operations on file or folder leave changed timestamps, which give the ways to know what operations were executed. Changes of timestamps of ten operations of a file and eight operations of a folder were examined. Analyses on the changes on the eight folder operations are newly added in this paper, which are not performed in the previous works. Based on the timestamps changes of the file and the folder, two evaluation functions are proposed. The first evaluation function checks whether timestamps are changed by file and folder operations, and the second evaluation function checks whether timestamps are originated from a source file or other attribute field. By the two output values from these evaluation functions, a digital forensic investigation on the file or the folder is performed. With some cases, i. e. file copy and folder creation operations, the proposed forensic method is tested for its usefulness.

  • The principles of military operations(principles of war) are the fundamental principles ruling warfighting that made based on the experiences of wars from the time of ancient Greeks to the World War II. Recent wars such as Iraq War showed us the change of environment of war and the style of waging a war. It is believed that future war will be executed with the style of Rapid Deceive Operations, Effect Based Operations, Network Centric Operations. Therefor the principles of war which we use should be reconsidered whether it is useful or not in future warfare. By considering the present principles of operation which are using in many countries and analysing the style of waging future war, we suggest new principles of operations : principle of gravity, principle of mass and dispersal, principle of disturbance, principle of speed, principle of paralysis, principle of synchronization and integration, principle of leadership, and principle of information.

  • In modern war information system development makes battlefield materialize, and combat factors can maximize combat power exhibition as that apply synchronization. Information system is the core of combat power operation under NCW(Network centric Warfare). This paper proposed a new MOE(Measure of Effectiveness) that can assess the combat power synergistic effect of information system at the theater joint fire operation in NCW environment. This methodology applied the rule of Newton's second law $F=(m{\Delta}{\upsilon})/t{\Rightarrow}(M{\upsilon}I)/T$) Details factor in combat power evaluation is as following. (1) M : Network power; (2) v : Movement velocity; (3) I : Information superiority; (4) T : C2(command and control) time. We applied this methodology to the "JFOS-K(Joint Fire Operating System-Korea) in Joint Chief of Staff" in the real military affair section.

  • Recently, an SSD with hybrid buffer memories is actively researching to reduce the overall latency in server computing systems. However, existing hybrid buffer policies caused many swapping operations in pages because it did not consider the overall latency such as read/write operations of flash chips in the SSD. This paper proposes the clock with hybrid buffer memories (CLOCK-HBM) for a new hybrid buffer policy in the SSD with server computing systems. The CLOCK-HBM constructs new policies based on unique characteristics in both DRAM buffer and NVMs buffer for reducing the number of swapping operations in the SSD. In experimental results, the CLOCK-HBM reduced the number of swapping operations in the SSD by 43.5% on average, compared with LRU, CLOCK, and CLOCK-DNV.

  • Static Random Access Memory (SRAM) using CMOS technology has many advantages. It does not need to refresh every certain time, as a result, the speed of SRAM is faster than Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM). This is the reason why SRAM is widely used in almost processors and system on chips (SoC) which require high processing speed. Two basic operations of SRAM are read and write. We consider two basic factors, including the accuracy of read and write operations and the speed of these operations. In our paper, we propose the read and write assist circuits for SRAM. By adding a power control circuit in SRAM, the write operation performed successfully with low error ratio. Moreover, the value in memory cells can be read correctly using the proposed pre-charge method.

  • This thesis is to investigate the general characteristics of MIS and provides a definite data base for computerization of the division operations based on the analysis and design of personnel business. Therefore, through the analysis of DFD (Data Flow Diagram), DD (Data Dictionary) and SD (System Dictionary), for designing of system, and the analysis of the requirement information, the relationships of business and the process of operations, for the current status analysis of division business, the computerized alternatives corresponding to a choice of a piece of information system were decided. The priority of a developing operations was also determined. A point of view is not so much the study about the division operations so far. This paper will be very helpful and will be achieved through the computerization of MIS.

  • For an Information System to be successful the continual control of the database system(DBS) is very important. In general, such control operations are performed periodically in batches, even in real time systems. We explain DBS related such control operations and describe the decision problem in each of them. Specifically, backup, checkpointing, reorganization, and batch update operations are considered. Then we develop a general model of the batch backup situation to determine the optimal backup timing. Other operations are considered as special cases of the general batch backup operation are derived and compared. We show that, in general, the control limit policy is superior to the fixed time interval policy in terms of the long-run average cost per unit time. Some practical considerations about the implementation of optimal policies are also mentioned.
