  • A policy of instant messaging usage is offered in this article. First, a brief introduction of instant messaging system structure is described. The main threats and vulnerabilities of Instant messenger (IM) are described in the second part of the paper. Instant messaging applications offer so many advantages in so many different fields that they're fast becoming the preferred communication tool for a number of different professional scenarios. When properly implemented, instant messaging can be a true asset to the business by making communications easier throughout the organization. If instant messaging is carelessly implemented, though, it can cause problems with privacy and may expose the organization to various forms of malware. The solution offered in this paper is one of the effective ways against threats of IM. However, the system cannot be secured entirely. All we can do is reducing the risks.

  • Instant messaging(IM) service is one of the useful communication means in the Intemet for exchanging simple messages between users. Usually, IM service is coupled with Presence service which provides status information of users. In this case, instant messages are sent and received directly between on-line users. Therefore, messages could not be exchanged when users are in off-line state. In this paper, We have implemented SIP based Instant Messaging System which includes message server that can store and manage instant messages. With this message server, messages could be exchanged legalness of user states. Furthermore, our system includes message waiting indication event package which provides useful informations about messages in the message server. And this system also includes the Caller Preference capabilities.

  • Distributing information on the internet is common in our daily life. In the past, e-mail has been the primary choice of exchanging information, but instant messengers are gaining popularity abroad and domestically because of their immediate responses. Instant messaging has become the fastest growing communication technology in recent years. Instant messaging is effectively a chat room for two people. Users that have accounts with the same provider are able to send messages via computer in real time. Instant messaging has exploded into the business world as companies now utilize the technology for everything from interoffice communication to client/customer communication. In this paper, we propose a method of instant messenger system design for effective collaboration of statistical data collection.

A Study of Consumer Loyalty on Instant Messaging Services

  • This study is focused on instant messaging service (IMS) providers' efforts to maintain a steadfast group of consumers who are willing to continuously use one service without switching to another. Various factors, carefully selected to reflect the unique features of instant messaging, were tested to verify their relationship with consumer loyalty. The results suggest that consumer loyalty of IMS users is most significantly affected by trust and perceived reputation a consumer has on the provider of IMS. Network externality, or the size and proximity of relationships formed through an IMS, also proves to have effect on consumer loyalty. Consumer loyalty in IMS users of different age or different internet usage is affected differently by each factor.

  • In this paper, we classify web-based social network into two types: open and community, and model user behavior in social activities. After that, we also propose the combination of instant messaging and web system as the method of support asynchronous/synchronous social activities. Furthermore, we introduce ImCoWeb prototype system that supports both asynchronous social activities (ex. social bookmark, comment, rate, and data share) and synchronous ones (ex. real-time communication, file transfer, co-browsing, and co-work). Because it is built on the existing instant messaging, it reduces costs by reusing the facilities such as session management, user management, and security of instant messaging.

  • The purpose of this study is to test the effect of personal communication activities using smart phone instant messenger during normal office hours on job performance in the workplace. To do this, empirical data were collected by conducting a field survey of smart phone users, and structural equation model was used for the purpose of analyzing the data acquired by the survey. A structural equation model was designed and constructed by such factors like personal instant messaging with the outside friends and co-workers on job performance. In addition, task characteristics set as a moderating effect between personal instant messaging with the outside friends/co-workers and job performance. The results of the analysis are summarized as follows; First, personal instant messaging with the outside friends generally has a negative effect on job performance, in addition in high task interdependence area the former has more effect on the latter. Second, personal instant messaging with co-workers has a positive effect on job performance.

  • 인스턴트 메시징(Instant Messaging: IM) 서비스는 인터넷 또는 IP 네트워크상에서 온라인 상태에 있는 사용자들간에 간단한 메시지를 주고 반을 수 있는 서비스이다. Presence 서비스는 통신을 원하는 사용자들의 온라인 상태 및 최신의 위치 정보를 제공함으로써 IM 서비스와 같은 Presence 정보를 기반으로 하는 다른 응용 서비스와 연계하여 활용할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 Presence 서비스와 IM 서비스를 통합한 시스템을 SIP(Session Initiation Protocol)를 기반으로 하여 구현하였다. SIP는 텍스트 기반의 호설정을 처리하는 프로토콜로서 혜더 부분의 확장을 통해 다른 응용 서비스에 쉽게 적용이 가능한 장점을 가지고 있다. 구현된 시스템에서 Presence 서비스의 Presence 정보는 XML로 인코드된 CPIM(Common Presence and Instant Messaging) PIDF(Presence Information Data Format) 포맷으로 하여 처리하였고 IM 서비스는 페이저 모델(Pager Model)로 구현하였다 또한 시스템 내에서 필요한 보든 인증 처리 부분을 RFC 2617에 정의되어 있는 HTTP 다이제스트 인증을 사용하여 보안기능을 높였다.

Continuance Intention Toward Second-generation Mobile Instant Messaging App of LINE in Taiwan

  • The second-generation mobile instant messaging (SMIM) proliferates with various relationship management functions: group chats, audio/video chats, file sharing, real-time location sharing, and nonverbal graphics, such as emojis and stickers. This study integrates the important but often overlooked affordances theory into innovation diffusion and proposes an SMIM continuance intention model. SMIM is a social affordance platform for users to develop new friendships and maintain their relationships. Integrated diffusion of innovation and affordance theoretical frameworks, this study investigates the influence of four factors on the success of using SMIM apps to improve friendship development and relationship management. Data were collected from 231 participants using a survey questionnaire in a public university in Taiwan. The findings confirm the effects of friendship development and relationship maintenance on the intention of users to continue using SMIM apps. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

  • Mobile instant messaging (MIM) has been widely used in modern society due to its portability, speed and ease of use. In addition to simple text-based messaging, mobile instant message has now expanded to include graphics, images, and video. Many instant message service providers attempt to differentiate their service by providing an unique emoticon. Therefore, understanding the factors that affecting the continuous usage of emoticon is essential to capture users' interest. There is relatively little study on emoticon in information systems field. Hence, this study attempts to explore the continuous usage of emoticon through exploring the property of emoticon and usage motivation of emoticon. Based on the results, this study attempts to demonstrate practical implication of marketing on understanding user interest to mobile instant messenger service provider.
