Purpose: The purpose of this study is to structure affective factors related to the tactile sense in order to improve tactile sensibility satisfaction of interior material. In this paper, we propose the design direction of interior material by analyzing the association between material properties and affective factors for automotive interior material. Methods: The relationship between sensibility adjectives and feelings related to tactile sensation were derived through factor analysis after touching prepared samples that were made by changing the material properties of automotive interior material. The association between affective factors and interior material properties were analyzed through ANOVA. Results: Seven kinds of visual and tactile affective factors were derived from the correlation between feeling of material and sensibility adjectives measured by 215 subjects. It is found that there is a quadratic relationship rather than a linear relationship through association analysis between affective factors and the material properties such as roughness, friction coefficient, and hardness. Conclusion: This study suggests the direction of the interior material design which can improve the sensibility satisfaction of the automobile customers by identifying the tactile factors related to the material properties of automotive interior material.

One of the characteristics of contemporary interior design is the prominence of material and its challenge to the established concept of interior design. As material has risen to the new element of design, losing its old concept as something secondary surrounding space, it had become an useful instrument to create unique images as well as to express the paradigm of space that modern society demands. The active role of material has made itself one of the primary elements that make a difference in design. Particularly in commercial spaces where sales are important and attractive spaces are needed, material has been emergent conveying its appling to consumers. Therefore, this study analyses the materiality that material has and its characteristics represented as images in commercial spaces. With the analysis, it researches further into the unlimited possibility of material and show the way for modern interior design to head for.

Through the increasing of social economies and cultural activities, the Food service industry have been growing up steadily in spite of low economic activity. This study is going to apprehend the constitution of space and difference of proportion or a point of sameness in the characteristics of material. Moreover, the recent importance of Interior finishing materials by means of fire in the Restaurant, legal fractional multiple use business establishment are recognized of publicity. Throughout probe and analysing, it can append more efficiency and elasticity in the usage of interior finishing material.

The space can recognize by experience of sense, the each space to make identity through this. The contemporary architecture make possible an experience of sense through a complex paradigm and a composite concept expression. The material is not the assist to make a form, but to induce an image and an emotion of designers. The new material make possible the different design expression and the new aesthetic value. The appearance of difference material means the possibility to realize a designer's concept. The study range is to define the sense of being alive, to image expression of material. It is to analyze the expression method of materials through to analyze the contemporary interior design. The expression method of materials to image the sense of being alive is direct and indirect and compromise. The interior design is visually to realize designer's concept, and the interior designer has to realize their it. The later study is on detail of material, in order to realize of material.

This study focuses on understanding the design characteristics of interior styles reflected in contemporary residential spaces by choosing and analyzing some design cases, reflecting interior styles of various countries, which is broadcasted through an interior design cable television in the U.S. Moreover, this study is meaningful because it provides a chance to extend the scope of study to the improving and developing Korean interior style for clarifying Korean identity to make Korean image by the comparison with other cultural spheres. In this study, after sorting 10 interior- style types and 90 design cases from the 12 cable television that mainly manage interior design projects, I grasp interior-design characteristics of each cases classified by form/expression and material. Research objects of the form/expression part for the interior-design characteristics are limited to furniture, textile, and ornaments, and those of material part are limited to furniture and ornaments.

This research is aimed to study the finishing material applied in interior space for improving residential environment. First of all, it finds out what is 'Sick Building Syndrome' and 'Sick House Syndrome', how harmful to human body about indoor air pollution substance (such as volatility organic compound, formaldehyde) and investigate the effect when the environment-friendly finishing material is used. Secondly, classify and examine all kind of finishing material applied in interior space. Finally, after emphasize the importance of environment-friendly finishing material from domestic or overseas, this research suggest the basic information of environment-friendly finishing material in order to use in the future buildings.

Modern interior design is expanding diversely, with the rapid development of technology and change of era. The basic of interior space that is rapidly changing consists of floor, wall and ceiling, and these are formed by materials, materials for structure or finishing materials. In the modern interior space, materials are utilized to present an atmosphere that meets the trend of the dissolution of post-modernism and the trend of minimalism. Accordingly, in this study, designers who take serious view on the relation of space and material, and the relation focusing on completed works, in modern interior design were investigated. The interrelation of the representation of each material, organic space, minimal space, and the space of Oriental fusion style were investigated through the works of modern interior designers, such as Karim Rashid and Ettore Sottsass.

Glass material is expressing by various technique in space and outer skin to introduction of digital media and a high-tech technology. Expressive characteristics and Techniques of this glass material are showing form of homogenized life in this age, simulated life. Therefore, this study does theoretical investigation through dematerializing of glass material, and analyzes works after 2000. Wish to understand stream of indoor design of present age after analyzes expression special quality and technique of glass material that reflect age and make a study of symbolic expression characteristic.

Among the domestic softwoods, technical value of Pinus koraiensis small diameter logs which have comparatively low applicability was evaluated and sensitive characteristics and physical characteristics were investigated and analyzed for examining if it can be utilized as the interior decoration material. For the sensitive characteristics of Pinus koraiensis, wood figure, wood grain, wood color and odor were evaluated and for the physical characteristics, growth-ring width and latewood percentage, abrasion, density, shrinkage, swelling, absorption, roughness and hardness were evaluated. Then, the possibility to be developed as the interior decoration material was found. As the result of evaluating sensitive characteristics and physical characteristics of domestic Pinus koraiensis, wood figure, wood grain, color and scent clearly were judged to have excellent visual factor as the interior decoration material. And, physical characteristics were also judged to be excellent, so it is judged to be developed as the interior decoration material. Therefore, as the result of various forms of design pattern with domestic Pinus koraiensis small diameter logs, several patterns of interior decoration can be developed by characteristics of each side and colors of heartwood and sapwood. And, in the future, it can be applied to furniture design or interior decoration material for the proper use. Especially, it is considered to contribute to wood applying industry through the study on the quality of domestic small diameter logs which have low applicability.

Technological development are now encouraging new concepts in various fields of design, including material applications. Metal can be considered as the major material that represents modern design and technology since the industrial revolution. The objective of this study was to understand characteristics of metal as design material and various application methods in interior design. This study first examined basic qualities of metal and its history used in architectural design. Secondly, based on three qualities of metal such as physical, chemical, and mechanical the authors have analyzed projects built within recent 10 years regarding aspects of metal qualities, treatments. As results projects that uses a combination of two or more qualities and treatment seem to have a more interesting affects in interior space. Moreover, each affects are related to these four design keyword: visual distortion, de-materialization, hi-technology, and time-concept. The framework developed is hopes to be used as a basic design guideline, where metal is considered not just as a mere interior finish material but as a major creative source and inspiration in interior design.
