  • As the Internet use has been spreading worldwide, illegal and harmful contents have been increasing on the Internet, which has become a very serious social problem. To prevent children form exposing themselves to such illegal and harmful contents on the Internet, harmful information protection systems have been developed. We examine component technologies of harmful information protection systems including text and image-based filtering solutions as well as url-based filtering solution. Also we examine the related trends and strategies which effectively prevent access to the harmful contents.

  • Problems related to information overload and harmful information have already expanded to national social problems as well as personal problems. This study explores the causes of Internet addiction, exposure to harmful information, malicious comments, fake information/information manipulation, and new alternatives that have recently been felt as social problems. Assuming that existing technologies/policies were not applied effectively, psychological cause analysis was performed for the fundamental problem approach. As a result, internal problems such as obsession with knowledge/understanding of wrong information/black and white stereotypes and prejudice were analyzed as main causes. Each proposed solution aims to help improve national technology/policy regarding internet addiction and blocking harmful information.

  • A huge amount of web documents, which are published on the Internet, provide to users not only helpful information but also harmful information such as pornography. In this paper we propose a method to detect the harmful web documents effectively. We first analyze harmful web documents, and extract factors to determine whether a given web document is harmful. Detail criteria are also described to assign a harmfulness score to each factor. Then the harmfulness score of a web document is computed by adding the harmfulness scores of all factors. If the harmfulness score of a web document is greater than a given threshold, the web document is detected as harmful. It is expected that this study could contribute to the protection of users from harmful web documents on the Internet.

  • More and richer information sources and services are available on the web everyday. However, harmful information, such as adult content, is not appropriate for all users, notably children. Since internet is a worldwide open network, it has a limit to regulate users providing harmful contents through each countrie's national laws or systems. Additionally it is not a desirable way of developing a certain system-specific classification technology for harmful contents, because internet users can contact with them in diverse ways, for example, porn sites, harmful spams, or peer-to-peer networks, etc. Therefore, it is being emphasized to research and develop context-based core technologies for classifying harmful contents. In this paper, we propose an efficient text filter for blocking harmful texts of web documents using context-based technologies and examine which algorithms for feature selection, the process that select content terms, as features, can be useful for text categorization in all content term occurs in documents, are suitable for classifying harmful contents through implementation and experiment.

  • The Internet is emerging as a powerful tool in the area of information and communication technology. The WWW has been especially contributed to increase the internet demand because of its browser which has "Graphic User Interface". Nowadays number of hosts that supply harmful information such as pornographic materials, and the infringement of human rights is rapidly increased. Access to such materials is very easy. Therefore security system which will protect young users from access to harmful host is needed. This paper presents implementation of user system has database about harmful hosts at the Internet and monitors that the user traffic over LAM get touch with the hosts. The system can not make the user access the harmful host because it can over LAN. The performance analysis on the developed system monitoring the traffic over LAN of Andong university is carried out. The performance analysis of monitoring results satisfies with preventing users from the connection to the internet harmful sites.

  • The openness of the Web allows any user to access almost any type of information easily at any time and anywhere. However, with function of easy access for useful information, internet has dysfunctions of providing users with harmful contents indiscriminately. Some information, such as adult content, is not appropriate for all users, notably children. Additionally for adults, some contents included in abnormal porn sites can do ordinary people's mental health harm. In the meantime, since Internet is a worldwide open network it has a limit to regulate users providing harmful contents through each countrie's national laws or systems. Additionally it is not a desirable way of developing a certain system-specific classification technology for harmful contents, because internet users can contact with them in diverse way, for example, porn sites, harmful spams, or peer-to-peer networks, etc. Therefore, it is being emphasized to research and develop context-based core technologies for classifying harmful contents. In this paper, we propose an efficient text filter for blocking harmful texts of web documents using context-based technologies.

  • As the number of harmful sites increases, many social problems are occurring. Therefore, in order to solve this problem, the government is carrying out activities to block access to web sites to harmful sites based on the law. However, due to the change from HTTP to HTTPS protocol, it has become difficult to block the harmful sites in the existing method. In the existing HTTP protocol, a method of blocking the site corresponding to the harmful site domain list by utilizing the DNS information was used. However, due to the generalization of HTTPS, it is difficult to block the harmful sites in the existing method. Therefore, the ISP uses the method of blocking the website using the SNI field in the TLS (Transport Layer Security) Handshake protocol used for HTTPS. However, since the method using SNI field raises the concern of monitoring Internet users or exposing information about connected sites, in this paper, we proposed method which can support anonymity to Internet users while blocking harmful sites. The suggested method also can support integrity and source authentication to the transmitted data.

  • Since the use of the Internet has proliferated, the availability of illegal and harmful content has been a great concern to both governments and Internet users. Among various solutions for issues related to such content, Internet content filtering technologies have been developed for enabling users to deal with harmful content. In recent years, commercial filtering has become massively popular. Many parents, teachers and even governments have chosen commercial filtering software as a feasible technical solution for protecting minors from harmful information on the Internet. The Internet content filtering software market has grown significantly. However, Internet content filtering software has led to intense debate among civil liberties groups, They deem this to be censorship and argue that Internet filtering technologies are simply unworkable because they have inherent weaknesses. They are critical of the fact that most filtering has violated free speech rights and will eventually wipe out honor and controversial, yet innocent incidences of free speech on the Internet. In this article Internet content filtering, in particular PICS/RDF-based label filtering, so-called Internet content rating system, will be explored and its advantages and drawbacks relating to end-users' autonomy and freedom of expression will be discussed.
