  • When a input image is extensively magnified on the computer system, it is almost impossible to replicate the original shape because of mismatched coordinates system. In order to resolve the problem, the shape of the magnified image has been reconfigured using the bilinear interpolation method, low pass special filtering interpolation method and B-spline interpolation method. • Extracting a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) from spaceborne imagery is important for cartographic applications of remote sensing data. The procedure for such DEM generation can be divided into stereo matching, sensor modelling and DEM interpolation. Among these, DEM interpolation contributes significantly to the completeness and accuracy of a DEM and, yet, this technique is often considered "trivial". However, na\ulcornere DEM interpolation may result in a less accurate and sometimes meaningless DEM. This paper reports the performance analysis of various DEM interpolation techniques. Using a manually derived DEM as reference, a number of sample points were created randomly. Different interpolation techniques were applied to the sample points to generate DEMs. The performance of interpolation was assessed by the accuracy of such DEMs. The results showed that kriging gave the best results at all times whereas nearest neighborhood interpolation provided a fast solution with moderate accuracy when sample points were large enough.

  • Image interpolation, a technology that converts low resolution images into high resolution images, has been widely used in various image processing fields such as CCTV, web-cam, and medical imaging. This technique is based on the fact that the statistical distributions of the white Gaussian noise and the difference between the interpolated image and the original image is similar to each other. The proposed algorithm is composed of three steps. In first, the interpolated image is derived by random image interpolation. In second, we derive weighting functions that are used to apply non-local mean filtering. In the final step, the prediction error is corrected by performing non-local mean filtering by applying the selected weighting function. It can be considered as a post-processing algorithm to further reduce the prediction error after applying an arbitrary image interpolation algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed method yields reasonable performance.

  • Kriging interpolation is one of the gennerally used interpolation techniques in Geostatics field. This research refers to the contents about important experimental variogram and the study of theoretical variogram and formulation of Kriging interpolation. Kriging interpolation is applied as interpolation for stress smoothing in finite element method. Posteriori error estimation which makes use of stress smoothing from the FEM is very important part, we try to make practical application of surface regeneration ability from Kriging interpolation. This research is necessary preceding one in order to materialize adaptive FTM through posteriori error estimation. For instance, find the estimate value and estimate the propriety through various theoretical variogram models of the reference analyzed from tensional L-shape domain. It also provides possibility of the Kriging interpolation through comparing to existing Least square method as well.

  • The purpose of this study was to aid in the use of the digital images by edge-detect interpolation for direct digital periapical images using edge-detect interpolation. This study was performed by image processing of 20 digital periapical images; pixel replication, linear non-interpolation, linear interpolation. and edge-sensitive interpolation. The obtained results were as follows : 1. Pixel replication showed blocking artifact and serious image distortion. 2. Linear interpolation showed smoothing effect on the edge. 3. Edge-sensitive interpolation overcame the smoothing effect on the edge and showed better image.

  • As an important part of image processing, image demosaicking has been widely researched. It is especially necessary to propose an efficient interpolation algorithm with good visual quality and performance. To improve the limitations of residual interpolation (RI), based on RI algorithm, minimalized-Laplacian RI (MLRI), and iterative RI (IRI), this paper focuses on adaptive RI (ARI) and proposes an improved ARI (IARI) algorithm which obtains more distinct R, G, and B colors in the images. The proposed scheme fully considers the brightness information and edge information of the image. Since the ARI algorithm is not completely adaptive, IARI algorithm executes ARI algorithm twice on R and B components according to the directional difference, which surely achieves an adaptive algorithm for all color components. Experimental results show that the improved method has better performance than other four existing methods both in subjective assessment and objective assessment, especially in the complex edge area and color brightness recovery.

  • This paper presents an shifted linear interpolation method with an image-dependent parameter. The previous shifted linear interpolation proposed the optimal shift parameter of 0.21, which is calculated by spectrum analysis of the shifted linear interpolation kernel. However, the parameter can be different if we takes an input image spectrum into account. Thus, we introduce an image-dependent parameter. An experiment shows the best shift parameter is 0.19 in average for real images. Also, simulation results indicate the proposed method is superior to the existing shifted linear interpolation as well as conventional methods such as linear interpolation and cubic convolution interpolation in terms of the subjective and objective image quality.

  • As the resolution of the image display devices has been diversified, the image interpolation methods has played a more important role. The cubic convolution interpolation method has been widely used because it is simple but it has no limitation of using and a good performance. This paper suggests an adaptive method to the cubic convolution interpolation. Considering the difference of the neighbored pixels values to a prediction pixel, a parameter value in the cubic convolution interpolation kernel is chosen.

  • The maximum feedrate generated from the hardware DDA is closely related to its calculation efficiency. The smaller interpolation span results in the lower calculation efficiency. This paper presents the method to improve the calculation efficiency for the smaller interpolation span. For the linear interpolation the higher calculation efficiency can be achieved by putting biggest value that the interpolation DDA can hold. for the circular interpolation, however, the scheme used for linear interpolation does not work since arbitrary change of value in the interpolation DDA changes the radius of the circle. The bit length of the hardware DDA is adjusted instead of adjusting the value in DDA, which results in the every same effect on calculation efficiency for the circular interpolation. The hardware circuit and supporting software are designed, and tested by two axis step motor driven milling machine. The experimental results show that the proposed method drastically increases the maximum feedrate even for the smaller interpolation span.

  • Performance of the interpolation algorithm used in the technique of bi-dimensional empirical mode decomposition directly affects its popularization and application, so that the researchers pay more attention to the algorithm reasonable, accurate and fast. However, it has been a lack of an adaptive interpolation algorithm that is relatively satisfactory for the bi-dimensional empirical mode decomposition (BEMD) and is derived from the image characteristics. In view of this, this paper proposes an image interpolation algorithm based on the particle swarm and fractal. Its procedure includes: to analyze the given image by using the fractal brown function, to pick up the feature quantity from the image, and then to operate the adaptive image interpolation in terms of the obtained feature quantity. All parameters involved in the interpolation process are determined by using the particle swarm optimization algorithm. The presented interpolation algorithm can solve those problems of low efficiency and poor precision in the interpolation operation of bi-dimensional empirical mode decomposition and can also result in accurate and reliable bi-dimensional intrinsic modal functions with higher speed in the decomposition of the image. It lays the foundation for the further popularization and application of the bi-dimensional empirical mode decomposition algorithm.
