  • This paper deals with the exact solution of surface gravity waves in an ocean with irregular bed topography. In order to obtain water surface elevation and run-up of infra-gravity waves when the bed is either wavy or exponential, closed form solutions are obtained. Numerical computations indicate that when solitary wave or sinusoidal wave conditions are applied at the boundary, water surface elevation attains near Gaussian profile.

  • The irregular fuel surface was observed by the visualization of hybrid rocket combustion. Even though the test condition maintained oxidizer rich environment, the irregular dark fuel surface was formed as the result of incomplete combustion. In order to investigate the correlation of the characteristics of oxidizer flow and the irregular fuel surface, various flow conditions were imposed such as swirl flow, induced swirl flow by helical fuel configuration and straight flow. Test results revealed no correlation was found between oxidizer flow condition and irregular fuel surface. And this can be a commonly observed phenomena in the tests with different fuel/oxidizer combination. Thus, the irregular fuel surface can be a result of the interaction of blowing flow of vaporized fuel and the boundary layer of oxidizer flow. A further study will be required to confirm the assumption for the formation of irregular fuel surface.

  • The stresses of surface and substrate under the rough surface contact are irregular. Using rainflow counting method for irregular stresses, the fatigue surface crack initiation lift was calculated. With the surface generated by computer, this paper figures out the random load generated by contacting to the rough surface, analyzes the stress of its subsurface, and calculates the fatigue crack initiation life of the rough surface fatigue theory.

  • Purpose: Try to compare dose distribution and lung dose of radiation treatment plan of the breast cancer that used Irregular Surface Compensator (ISC) and treatment plan that used a wedge filter. Materials and Methods: Established a treatment plan to be distributed over 95% of prescription dose (5,040 cGy) of the two tangent-half fields that used a wedge filter and ISC at a breast organization as made to breast cancer patient having an irregular surfaces after surgery. Compared high dose area and DVH, and verified a treatment plan as used film with rectangular phantom. Results: Maximum dose point in breast tissue appeared to 107.5% in case of tangent-half fields Tx plan that used a wedge filter, and lung volumes exposed above 20 Gy by 7.63%. In case of ISC, maximum dose point in breast tissue appeared to 106.4%, and lung volumes exposed above 20 Gy by 6.5%. The film measurement results that used phantom, 105$\sim$110% high dose region was distributed to the upper part and both edges of phantom. However in case of ISC, appeared by 100$\sim$105% dose conformity distribution. Conclusion: In general, the Irregular Surface Compensator (ISC) can improve the dose conformity of breast tissues, as well as reduced hot spots in the lung and in the breast. Such an advantage by using ISC technique is more beneficial for patients who have more irregular surfaces after surgery.

  • The integral equation method to solve the boundary-value problem of a 2-dimensional body oscillating in the presence of a free surface generally breaks down at and near irregular frequencies due to the hypothetical flow inside the body. In this paper singularity distributions were extended to an inner free surface to remove the irregular frequency as Ohmatsu's work in 1978, and the solution for the above problem was found by using stream function. For various bodies including Lewis form cylinders, the hydrodynamic forces were calculated numerically at various wave numbers. From the results we concluded that the irregular frequencies can be removed even for the Lewis form cylinder as Ohmatsu done for circular cylinders, and calculated hydrodynamic forces by the present method are little higher than those of Ohmatsu's when the singularities are put on the inner free surface of the body. We specially point out that the solution for heaving motion converges in an oscillatory manner but not for swaying and rolling motions.

  • A time-domain simulation of a land-based Oscillating Water Column (OWC) with various irregular waves as a form of PM spectrum is performed by using a two-dimensional fully nonlinear numerical wave tank (NWT) based on the potential theory, mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian (MEL) approach, and boundary element method. The nonlinear free-surface condition inside the OWC chamber was specially devised to describe both the pneumatic effect of the time-varying pressure and the viscous energy loss due to water column motions. The quadratic models for pneumatic pressure and viscous loss are applied to the air and free surface inside the chamber, and their numerical results are compared with those with equivalent linear ones. Various wave spectra are applied to the OWC system to predict the efficiency of wave-energy take-off for various wave conditions. The cases of regular and irregular waves are also compared.

  • This paper proposes an effective SLAM based on redundant extended Kalman filter for robot navigation in an irregular surface to enhance the accuracy of robot's pose. To establish an accurate model of a caterpillar type robot is very difficult due to the mechanical complexity of the system which results in highly nonlinear behavior. In addition, for robot navigation on an irregular surface, its control suffers from the uncertain pose of the robot heading closely related to the condition of the floor. We show how this problem can be overcome by the proposed approach based on redundant extended Kalman filter through some computer simulation results.

  • This study evaluated the localized stress condition of the real corroded deck surface of an orthotropic steel bridge because severe corrosion damage on the deck surface and fatigue cracking were reported. Thus, a three-dimensional finite element (FE) analysis model was created based on measurements of the corroded orthotropic steel deck surface to examine the stress level dependence on the corrosion condition. Based on the FE analysis results, it could be confirmed that a high stress concentration and irregular stress distribution can develop on the deck surface. The stress level was also increased by approximately 1.3-1.5 times as a result of the irregular corroded surface. It was concluded that this stress concentration could increase the possibility of fatigue cracking in the deck surface because of the surface roughness of the orthotropic steel bridge deck.

  • As 3D printer-related patents expire and major technologies are disclosed, the price of 3D printers is dropping, creating an environment where you can easily find the product you want. In particular, the cheapest FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer is being used in various fields. The FDM method can be manufactured without collapsing of the shape only by attaching a support under certain conditions when outputting the shape. When printing a shape without a support, the irregular surface that occurs at a certain angle is a defect in the product, but it is considered that it can be used as another fun factor in terms of arts and crafts. In this paper, to obtain such an irregular surface, factors that can affect the output were controlled and only the output angle was tested as a displacement factor. As a result of the experiment, it was possible to obtain an irregular surface without the filament flowing down when printing at an angle of 62° to 70° from the vertical. Also, artificially irregular surfaces were applied to craft products.
