Analysis of Generalized Impact Factors and the Indices of Journals

  • Analyzing the relationships among the parameters for quantifying the quality of research published in journals is a challenging task. In this paper, we analyze the relationships between the impact factor, h-index, and g-index of a journal. To keep our analysis simple and easy to understand, we consider a generalized version of the impact factor where there is no time window. In the absence of the time window, the impact factor converges to the number of citations received per paper. This is not only justified for the impact factor, it also simplifies the analysis of the h-index and g-index as well because addition of a time window in the form of years complicates the computation of indices too. We derive the expressions for the relationships among impact factor, h index, and g-index and validate them using a given set of publication-citation data.

교량의 충격계수에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Impact Factor of Bridges)

  • The impact factor of bridges is analyzed based on experimental data to examine the characteristics of the dynamic responses of bridges. The experimental impact factors are compared with the impact factor of Korean Highway Design Specification and Japan T-load in terms of the span length. According to the superstructural types of bridges, the variation of the impact factor is analyzed. When vehicles are passing on a bridge, the dynamic effect acts on the bridge impact factor more than at the time of design because of the velocity of vehicles, the surface roughness reduction due to the deterioration of the bridge deck pavement, and the disconnection of the bridge entrance and the expansion joint. Because the actual value is greater than the expected value at the time of design, the dynamic response of the bridge accelerates the deterioration of the bridge due to the accumulation of fatigue, and the bridge's life-time is shortened and can have an influence on the serviceability and safety of the bridge.

기존선 궤도의 충격계수 산정에 관한 연구 (Evaluation of Track Impact Factor in the Conventional Line)

  • In this paper, the track impact factor of conventional line was evaluated using the data for wheel load measured in field and the properties of current operating trains. The equation for track impact factor was presented through the statistical analysis of variational ratio in wheel load and compared with other design equations in domestic and foreign countries. A review on the safety of track system in conventional line was made from the relationship between the velocity and the corresponding impact factor. It was found that the impact factor from the proposed equation is a little less than the values from the equations adopted in both AREA and domestic railway, while it is same as the equation for continuous welded rail(CWR) in Japan. Therefore it could be said that the track satisfies a criteria for dynamic load caused by the train and the corresponding level of safety is guaranteed for dynamic load of the train

  • There have been extensive studies done on webometrics, particularly on the impact of websites and the web impact factor. The present study analyzed the websites of ICAR organizations, according to the webometrics indicator. It examines and explores the 92 ICAR organizational websites in India and identifies a number of web pages and link pages, and calculates the Overall Web Impact Factor (WIF) and Absolute Web Impact Factor (WIF). In this study, all websites were analyzed and data extracted using Google search engine. It suggests that Web Impact Factors can be calculated as a way of comparing the attractiveness of web sites or domains on the Web.

Fiscal Convergence and Total Factor Productivity: Firm-Level Evidence from Pakistan

  • This study examines the impact of corporate tax, a fiscal measure along with trade liberalization and research and development on total factor productivity for a panel of 153 industrial firms listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange over the period 1997-2017. For empirical analysis, we employ the system generalized method of moment estimator. In the first step, we estimate industrial production function and the results reveal that raw material, industrial labour force and energy play vital role in enhancing industrial production. Whereas, industrial capital exerts negative impact on industrial output. We also measured total factor productivity using the production elasticities. In the second step, we examine the impact of corporate tax, trade liberalization and research and development on total factor productivity. The results indicate that higher level of corporate tax exerts negative impact on total factor productivity. The findings reveal that higher corporate taxation discourages industrial firms to undertake research and development thereby exerting adverse impact on total factor productivity of firms. The impact of trade liberalization proxied by average tariff is positive while customs duty and sales tax negatively impact firm-level total factor productivity. These findings provide useful insights for managers, investors and policy makers in Pakistan.

통행차량에 의한 충격계수 산정방법 개선 (An Improvement for Impact Factor Determination to Traffic Loads)

  • This paper is proposed a reasonable method for determining the dynamic properties, the impact factors caused by traffic loads on highway bridges. In addition, the impact factors obtained in previous inspection reports were classified by the span length of the bridge, kind of bridge and type of bridge and the result of the impact factor was adjusted by a statistical method and presented problems. Also, the method for determining the impact factor using traffic load is proposed and the proposed method is compared with the specification code. The method estimating the impact factors due to the traffic loads can efficiently recognize the response of the structure by providing the impact factors and help to save the investigation cost, and also it can be used for the maintenance of structures using the usual test of bridges.

국내 의과대학 교수들의 Science Citation Index (SCI) 이용 실태 및 SCI 학술지에 대한 인지도(認知度) 조사 연구 (A Study on the Use of Science Citation Index (SCI) and Awareness of SCI Source Journals by Faculty Members at Korean Medical Colleges)

  • 본 연구는 국내 의학 연구자들의 SCI 이용 실태와 SCI 학술지에 대한 인지도를 규명하기 위하여, 국내 4개의 유수한 의과대학에 재지 중인 교수 902명 중 무작위 추출한 180명 $(20\%)$을 대상으로 설문지 조사를 시행하여 104명 (회신율$57.8\%$)의 설문응답 내용을 분석하였다. 국내 의학자들은 필요한 의학 정보를 찾을 때 SCI는 별로 이용하지 않는다. 대신에 대부분의 국내 의학 도서관이 소장하고 있어 그 이용이 편리한 MEDLINE을 집중적으로 사용하고 있다. 또한. 국내의 많은 의학자들이 SCI 학술지의 Impact factor list를 Journal Citation Reports (JCR)로. JCR을 색인지인 SCI로 혼동 또는 동일시하고 있었다. 즉 국내에서 SCI에 대한 지식과 용도는 색인의 기능이라기 보다는 Impact factor 정보원의 기능이다. Impact factor에 대한 관심은 SCI 학술지에 논문을 투고해야 한다는 목적의식과 밀접하게 연계되어 있을 뿐이다. 본 연구의 대상이 되었던 의과대학들은 국내 타 의과대학보다 좋은 연구여건을 갖추었을 터인데도. 소속 교수들이 SCI. SCI 학술지 그리고 Impact factor에 대하여 정보 부족 및 부재 현상을 겪고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고. 이들의 각 분야별 국내외 주요 학술지에 대한 주관적인 인지도는 인용문헌 분석에 의하여 선정된 SCI 학술지의 범위. Impact factor 순위와 상당 부분 일치하고 있다. 그러므로 국내 의학 교수들에게 SCI 학술지에 논문을 발표하도록 독려하는 방안이나, SCI 학술지에 논문 게재 여부로 연구 업적을 평가하는 정책은 긍정적으로 검토되어 질 수 있겠다.

A Novel Journal Evaluation Metric that Adjusts the Impact Factors across Different Subject Categories

  • During the last two decades, impact factor has been widely used as a journal evaluation metric that differentiates the influence of a specific journal compared with other journals. However, impact factor does not provide a reliable metric between journals in different subject categories. For example, higher impact factors are given to biology and general sciences than those assigned to other traditional engineering and social sciences. This study initially analyzes the trend of the time series of the impact factors of the journals listed in Journal Citation Reports during the last decade. This study then proposes new journal evaluation metrics that adjust the impact factors across different subject categories. The proposed metrics possibly provides a consistent measure to mitigate the differences in impact factors among subject categories. On the basis of experimental results, we recommend the most reliable and appropriate metric to evaluate journals that are less dependent on the characteristics of subject categories.

교량의 공용내하력과 환산충격계수 관계 연구 (The Relationship between the Load Carrying Capacity and Transformed Impact Factor of Highway Bridge)

  • In this thesis, the relationship between the load carrying capacity and the transformed impact factor of the highway bridges were studied. The bridges are classified according to superstructures type. The result of the comparison between the load carrying capacity and the transformed impact factor, if the load capacity ratio of 0.57, the transformed impact factor was less in order of RC T-beam bridge, RC slab bridge, PC beam bridge, I-beam bridge. By the regression analysis on these results, the empirical formulae to predict the the load carrying capacity of bridge were suggested.

이동하중의 편측재하에 따른 단순교의 충격계수 및 응답계수 변화 분석 (Investigation of Impact Factor and Response Factor of Simply Supported Bridges due to Eccentric Moving Loads)

  • 교량 내하력 추정을 위해 제안된 모델에서는 응답계수를 충격계수 응답스펙트럼을 활용하여 산정하고 있다. 이때 충격계수 응답스펙트럼은 오일러-베르누이 보 모델을 바탕으로 차량이동하중이 교량의 폭 방향으로 중앙부에 재하 된 조건으로 생성된 결과이다. 따라서 중앙부 차량재하가 아닌 편측 이동하중재하 시 충격계수와 응답계수의 변화를 분석해 볼 필요가 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 폭이 10m인 2차선 단순교를 대상으로 이동하중해석을 실시하여 최대 충격계수와 응답계수 변화를 분석하였다. 수치해석 결과, 중앙부 재하조건 대비 편측 재하조건 적용 시 최대 정적 및 동적 변위 모두 증가하지만 동적변위 보다 정적변위의 증가량이 더 크기 때문에 충격계수는 오히려 감소하게 된다. 하지만 이러한 차이는 0.5%p 미만으로서 그 영향이 크지 않다. 그리고 응답계수의 경우, 편측 재하조건으로 인해 정적응답계수보다 동적응답계수에서 차이가 더 크게 나타나지만 편측 재하에 따른 오차율의 차이는 0.18%p 정도로 매우 작았다. 즉, 편측 이동하중재하가 응답계수에 미치는 영향은 거의 없으며, 응답계수 산정에 있어서 중앙부 이동하중재하 조건으로 생성된 충격계수 응답스펙트럼을 활용하여도 충분한 예측이 가능하다고 판단된다.
