  • Students' journals in science class are supposed to contribute to students' science teaming and to provide plentiful information on students' learning and progress. If interaction could be reinforced in the process of writing journals, the positive effects of the journals are expected to be increased. New approaches in teaching should be supported by school and community. Otherwise, teachers are frequently frustrated and failed to introduce new ways of instruction into science classes. The purposes of the study are to develop interactive journals, and approaches to introduce interactive journals at school level. The status and situation of the school were investigated by survey. Interactive journals were developed by teachers who experienced workshops on developing journals. A model journal was provided as a guidance to teachers. To establish environments for introducing journals in the school, an invited lecture was provided to increase parents' perceptions on journals. A communication system among students, parents, and teachers was established, and educational materials, such as encyclopedia, books, computers, and so on were prepared. For efficient administration of journals, various prizes and events were established. As a result of the study, teachers participated experienced professional development in terms of journals, interactive journals for science class were developed, the environments for the introduction of interactive journals at school level were established, and most students successfully completed science journals.

  • This study assesses the growth and distribution of research journals indexed in Scopus from 2000 through 2019, using SCImago data for journal and country ranking. A total of 15,484 journals were indexed in Scopus up till 1999, and from 2000 to 2019, 11,037 journals were indexed in Scopus at an average of 581.85 journals per year at an average annual corresponding growth of 2.74%. Of the total journals indexed in Scopus, 41.61% were indexed during the last two decades. Europe is the leading continent publishing nearly 60% of the total world journals, while Africa publishes around 1% of journals, the lowest among all the continents. The United Kingdom, United States (US), China, Brazil, Australia, and Egypt are the leading countries publishing the maximum number of journals from their respective continents. Of the total journals indexed across the world, nearly one-fourth (6,425, 24.23%) are published in the US. Still more, of the 109 journal publishing countries across the world, nearly 90% of journals are published in twenty leading journal publishing countries. Among the 27 major Scopus recognized subject disciplines, the majority (1,606, 6.06%) of journals are published in the field of medicine. The growth of research journals and the growth of research results has moved at a uniform pace, and any asymmetry between the two is bound to result either in the introduction of predatory and dubious journals or in the production of sub-standard research results.

  • Global status of aquaculture and aquaculture scientific journals is briefly described. Asia is the centre of fishing and aquaculture activities but most publishers, editors and editorial board members of fisheries and aquaculture journals are from Europe and/or USA. The contribution by Asian fisheries/aquaculture scientists to these journals remains low. Language barrier and requirement for monitory investment seem to inhibit Asian participation in this realm of scientific activity. The need for glob-alization of aquaculture scientific journals is emphasized. Selected strategies, which are adopted by the Western journals to improve their image and management, are indicated.

  • Identifying prestigious interdisciplinary journals is very significant for researchers. By publishing research works in prestigious journals, researchers can better propagate their works and get spotlights. Even though the quality of a papers is not represented by the journal that published the paper, it is a general concern of researchers that how to identify a set of good journals to submit their papers. Nature and Science are the two journals that have been considering as the two top interdisciplinary journals worldwide. In this paper, we propose a method for identifying journals that have the potential to become the next Nature and Science through topological analysis of interdisciplinary scientific journals.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to analyze the current status of various fusion research journals and the operational strategies of such journals and compare them with the operational strategies of IJIDB. Research design, data, and methodology - This study focused on the contents analysis of convergence journals after summarizing the development history from IJIDB's past and its external situation. In addition, we analyzed other strategies such as the number of publication journals, the number of publications, the academic scope, and the impact factor that other convergence journals operate on. Results - As a result of the analysis, the convergent journals showed to have several related journals, and some journals managed their impact factor well at 5.8. Also, some journals loaded 25 papers in one volume. Also, the managerial functions in IJIDB should be developed further to increase its stability. Finally, opportunities for articles by Candidates of Ph.D. and Masters degree students should be more open to in this field. Conclusions - If IJIDB finds its competitiveness in comparison with the operational strategies of other convergence journals, it will be the best journal in the Korea Citation Index to receive the most research papers and hospitality from scholars in the Korean journals.

  • Purpose: The purposes of the authors' analysis were to assess the values that plastic surgery journals demonstrate in terms of the standardized measures created by the Korea Medical Citation Index, and to assess the relationship between these values and the turnaround time of these journals. Methods: The overall indexes of J Korean Soc Plast Reconstr Surg(JKSPRS), J Korean Soc Aesthetic Plast Surg(JKSAPS), J Korean Cleft Palate-Craniofac Assoc (JKCPRA) were compared with those of journals related with Korean plastic surgery using the following parameters: impact factor, cited half-life, total articles, and the number of journals. Korean plastic surgery journals were compared with journals from relative fields. In addition, an evaluation of all original articles published in 2007, assessing the time intervals from submission to publication was conducted for Korean plastic surgery journals and various journals which were related with plastic surgery. Results: The number of articles for Korean plastic surgery journals for 2006 ranged from 19 for JKCPRA to 149 for JKSPRS. The time interval from submission to publication of an article among Korean plastic surgery journals for 2007 ranged from 73.7 days for JKSAPS to 176.2 days for JKSPRS. The variation in impact factor of JKSPRS for the period from 2002 to 2005 increased from 0.084 in the year 2002 to 0.168 in 2005. But the impact factor in 2006 has fallen to 0.112. Conclusion: JKSPRS demonstrated comparatively high overall index values and a short turnaround time in comparison to relative journals. To improve the status of Korean plastic surgery journals, members of Korean plastic surgeons should quate Korean plastic surgery journals and adjust key word to MeSH. The title written down in Korean should use medical terminology published by Korean medical association.

  • Background: In 1997 the Korean Association of Medical Journal Editors (KAMJE) instituted a program to evaluate member journals. Journals that passed the initial evaluation were indexed in the KoreaMed. Here, we report changes in measures of quality of the KAMJE member journals during the last 20 years. Methods: Quality measures used in the study comprised 3 assessment categories; self-assessment by journal editors, assessment of the journals by KAMJE reviewers, and by Korean health science librarians. Each used detailed criteria to score the journals on a scale of 0 to 5 or 6 in multiple dimensions. We compared scores at baseline evaluation and those after 7 years for 129 journals and compared improvements in journals indexed vs. not-indexed by the Web of Science (Science Citation Index Expanded; SCIE). Results: Among 251 KAMJE member journals at the end of 2015, 227 passed evaluation criteria and 129 (56%) had both baseline and 7-year follow-up assessment data. The journals showed improvement overall (increase in median [interquartile range; IQR] score from baseline, 0.47 [0.64]; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.44-0.61; P < 0.001) and within each category (median [IQR] increase by editor's assessment, 0.17 [0.83]; 95% CI, 0.04-0.26; P = 0.007; by reviewer's, 0.45 [1.00]; 95% CI, 0.29-0.57; P < 0.001; by librarian's, 1.75 [1.08]; 95% CI, 1.77-2.18, P < 0.001). Before the foundation of KAMJE in 1996, there were only 5 Korean medical journals indexed in the MEDLINE and none in SCIE, but 24 journals in the MEDLINE and 34 journals in SCIE were indexed by 2016. Conclusion: The KAMJE journal evaluation program successfully contributes improving the quality of the member journals.

  • Objectives : The purpose of the study was to examine the ethical requirements for the protection of human subjects in the publication guidelines of dental health journals. Methods : The guidelines of 27 dental health journals were reviewed to determine ethical standards alone, with Helsinki Declaration, by an institutional review board (IRB), informed consent, protection of subject privacy and confidentiality, and no conflicts of interest. Results : 1. Dentistry journals listed on National Research Foundation of Korea had a conflict of interest disclosure provisions of the contribution(76.9%) and the IRB approval(61.5%). 2. Half of the dental health journals were not listed on National Research Foundation of Korea Society but they agreed the advance posting provisions. 3. Dental hygiene journals provide 100% of ethics alone and receive 75% of IRB in the papers. 4. Dental health and dental hygiene journals have conflicts of interest disclosure regulations(59.2%) and IRB approval(51.8%). 5. There existed statistically significant differences between the dental health journals whether they were listed on the human subjects and ethical standards for protection in National Research Foundation of Korea or not. Conclusions : While the publication guidelines of dental health journals have followed to a greater extent in recent years, there is still a need for further instructions to ensure that the authors satisfy all ethical requirements in conducting research on human subjects. IRB approval for dental journals must be standardized and reinforced reflecting the characteristics of each journals. The researchers should obey the code of ethics suitable for education and the editors must review the paper continuously.
