  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to make clear the difference of the mental state between formal menstruation group and menorragia group. Methods: The patients suffering from uterine myoma or adenomyosis answered about menstruation and did a blood test and MMPI. They were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U-test. Results: The D scale of complain of a menorrhagia group is higher than normal menstruation group. (p<0.05) According to blood test, The F scale of anemia group is higher than normal group.(p<0.05) The D scale of menorrhagia with anemia group is higher than normal menstruation without anemia group. (p<0.05) The MMPI score of complain of a menorrhagia group, anemia group, and menorrhagia with anemia group showed 1-2 profile type. The MMPI score of normal menstruation group, normal result of the blood test group, and menorrhagia with anemia group showed 1-3 profile type. Conclusion: regardless of the rxistence of anemia, the group with menorrhagia tends to show a state of depression than the control group.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study aimed to investigate that dieckol - isolated from Ecklonia cava - supplementation can improve cognitive ability in mice. Methods : 48-male mice(6 weeks old) were divided into four groups; High-Dieckol group(n=12), Low-Dieckol group(n=12), Placebo group(n=12), Control group(n=12) and they were administered orally 5 days per week for 4 weeks at the same time. We performed Morris water maze test, Passive avoidance test, Blood serotonin analysis. And there was examined on neurogenesis in dentate gyrus of hippocampus using 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU) to label proliferating cells. Results : The results are as follows; As a Morris water maze results, Trial duration was significantly decreased in high dieckol group comparing to placebo group and control group. Distance to target was significantly decreased in high dieckol group and low dieckol group comparing to placebo group and control group. Mean speed was significantly low in high dieckol group comparing to low dieckol group, placebo group and control group. As a Passive avoidance test results, latency time was significantly long in high dieckol group comparing to low dieckol group, placebo group and control group. BrdU cell count was significantly high in high dieckol group comparing to low dieckol group, placebo group and control group. Conclusions : As a conclusion, it is considered that dieckol supplementation might improve learning and cognitive ability.

  • The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of far-infrared on rheumatoid arthritis induced rats by type ⅡI collagen with the change of arthritis index, hind paw volume, TNF-α and histopathologic findings. Thirty-six Sprauge-Dawley rats which were divided into four group. Group Ⅰ : Normal group, Group Ⅱ : Collagen-Induced Arthritis group, Group Ⅲ : Far-Infrared 25㎝ radiation group, Group Ⅳ : Far-Infrared 35㎝ radiation group. The results of this study were as follows: In arthritis index, far-infrared radiation group(Ⅲ, Ⅳ) are more decreased than collagen-induced arthritis group(Ⅱ). Group Ⅲ and Ⅳ showed the most significant effect at 14 day(p<0.05). In hind paw, far-infrared 25㎝ radiation group(Ⅲ) significantly decreased more than only collagen-induced arthritis group on day 14(p<0.05). Far-infrared 35㎝ radiation group(Ⅳ) significantly decreased more than collagen-induced arthritis group on day 3, 7 and 14(p<0.05). In the ELISA study of TNF-α concentration, collagen-induced arthritis group significantly increased in the concentration more than normal group. Far-infrared radiation group(Ⅲ, Ⅳ) decreased in TNF-α concentration more than collagen-induced arthritis group(Ⅱ) on day 14. In histopathologic findings, collagen-induced arthritis(Ⅱ) and far-infrared 25㎝ radiation group(Ⅲ) increased in synovial membrane thickness on 3 day. Far-infrared 35 em radiation group(Ⅳ) decreased in the concentration more than collagen-induced arthritis group on day 14. The above results suggest that far-infrared radiation effectively reduced in rheumatoid arthritis. It would be considered that far-infrared has an effects on relieving rheumatoid arthritis.

  • The molecular mechanisms that arrest cardiomyocytes in the cell cycle during postnatal period remain largely unknown. The activity of CDKs control cell cycle progression, and this activity is regulated positively and negatively by association of CDKs with cyclins and cyelin dependent kinase inhibitors (CKIs) respectively.(omitted)

  • Purpose: This study investigated effects of deep abdominal muscle strengthening exercises on pulmonary function and the ability to balance in stroke patients and was conducted to propose an exercise program for improving cardiovascular function. Methods: Study subjects were 20 patients with hemiplegia due to stroke, who were divided into the deep abdominal muscle strengthening exercise group (experimental group), 10, and the control group, 10. Pulmonary function tests measured FVC and FEV1, dynamic balance ability was measured using TUG. Static and dynamic balance ability was measured using BBS. The experimental group performed exercises during a period of 6 weeks, 5 times a week for 40 minutes, whereas the control group did not participate in regular exercise. The difference before and after the exercise was compared using paired t-test, difference in exercise before and after between groups was ANCOVA and level of significance was set at ${\alpha}=0.05$. Results: The changes in FVC and FEV1 within the group showed a significant difference only in the experimental group (p<0.001) (p<0.01), between-group difference was statistically significant only in FVC and FEV1 changes in the experimental group (p<0.001). The TUG changes within the group showed a significant difference in the experimental group and control group (p<0.001) (p<0.05), while BBS changes showed a significant difference only in the experimental group. Between-group difference was statistically significant only in TUG and BBS changes in the experimental group. The experimental group showed a more effective significant difference than the control group (p<0.001). Conclusion: Can exercise involving a deep abdominal muscle strengthening program be applied in patients with stroke with difficulty in control of trunk and decreased breathing ability?
