  • The aim of this paper is to introduce a digital $({\kappa}_0,\;{\kappa}_1)$-covering map and a local $({\kappa}_0,\;{\kappa}_1)$-homeomorphism. And further, we show that a digital $({\kappa}_0,\;{\kappa}_1)$-covering map is a local $({\kappa}_0,\;{\kappa}_1)$-homeomorphism and the converse does not hold. Finally, some property of a digital covering map is investigated with relation to some restriction map. Furthermore, we raise an open problem with relation to the product covering map.

  • We introduce strongly ${\kappa}$-$Fr{\acute{e}}chet$ and strongly ${\kappa}$-sequential spaces which are stronger than ${\kappa}$-$Fr{\acute{e}}chet$ and ${\kappa}$-net spaces respectively. For convenience, we use the terminology "${\kappa}$-sequential" instead of "${\kappa}$-net space", introduced by R.E. Hodel in [5]. And we study some properties and topological operations on such spaces. We also define strictly ${\kappa}$-$Fr{\acute{e}}chet$ and strictly ${\kappa}$-sequential spaces which are more stronger than strongly ${\kappa}$-$Fr{\acute{e}}chet$ and strongly ${\kappa}$-sequential spaces respectively.

  • The physical properties of ${\kappa}/{\lamda}$- and ${\kappa}/{\iota}$-carrageenan films, mixed with ${\lamda}$- or ${\iota}$-carrageenan (${\kappa}:{\lamda}$ or ${\kappa}:{\iota}$ = 2:1, 1.5:1.5, 1.2:1.8) and with polyethylene glycol, were compared to those of ${\kappa}$-, ${\lamda}$-, or ${\iota}$-carrageenan films. The tensile strengths of the ${\kappa}/{\lamda}$- and ${\kappa}/{\iota}$-carrageenan films decreased with increasing mixing ratios of ${\kappa}/{\lamda}$- or ${\kappa}/{\iota}$-carrageenan, respectively, and were lower than those of the ${\lamda}$- and ${\iota}$-carrageenan films. The elongations and water vapor permeabilities of the ${\kappa}/{\lamda}$- and ${\kappa}/{\iota}$-carrageenan films increased with increasing mixing ratios of ${\lamda}$- and ${\iota}$-carrageenan, respectively, and were higher than those of the ${\lamda}$- or ${\iota}$-carrageenan films.

  • In this paper, we strengthen the properties of approximation by points (AP) and weak approximation by points (WAP) considered by A. Pultr and A. Tozzi in 1993 to define ${\kappa}$-AP and ${\kappa}$-WAP for an infinite cardinal ${\kappa}$. We also strengthen the properties of radial and pseudoradial to define ${\kappa}$-radial and ${\kappa}$-pseudoradial for an infinite cardinal ${\kappa}$. These allow us to consider new cardinal functions related to almost closed sets; AP-number, WAP-number, radial number, and pseudoradial number. We study their properties and show the relationships between them. We also provide some examples around ${\kappa}$-AP and ${\kappa}$-WAP which are closely connected with ${\kappa}$-radial and ${\kappa}$-pseudoradial.

  • In this paper, Cohen's kappa and weighted kappa are applied to measuring classification accuracy when performing classification in data minig. Cohen's kappa compensates for classifications that may be due to chance and is used for the data with nominal or ordinal scales. Especially, for the ordinal data, weighted kappa which measures the classification accuracy by quantifying the classification errors as weights is used. We used two weights (linear weight, quadratic weight) for calculations of weighted kappa. Also for the calculation and comparison of kappa and weighted kappa we used a real data set, fat-liver data.

  • For some $\phi$-sequences $\phi_1$, $\phi_2$ and $\phi_3$, and $\kappa$-function $\kappa_1$, $\kappa_2$ and $\kappa_3$ with $\kappa_1^{-1}(x)\kappa_2^{-1}(x)\;{\geq}\;\kappa_3^{-1}(x)$ for $x\;{\geq}\;0$, the Luxemburg norm is lower semi-continuous on ${\kappa}{\phi}BV_0$, and some specialized equivalent conditions are considered.

  • For a given ideal I of a Noetherian ring R and an arbitrary integer ${\kappa}{\geq}-1$, we apply the concept of ${\kappa}$-regular sequences and the notion of ${\kappa}$-depth to give some results on modules called ${\kappa}$-Cohen Macaulay modules, which in local case, is exactly the ${\kappa}$-modules (as a generalization of f-modules). Meanwhile, we give an expression of local cohomology with respect to any ${\kappa}$-regular sequence in I, in a particular case. We prove that the dimension of homology modules of the Koszul complex with respect to any ${\kappa}$-regular sequence is at most ${\kappa}$. Therefore homology modules of the Koszul complex with respect to any filter regular sequence has finite length.

  • Observing that every Tychonoff space X has a weakly Lindel$\ddot{o}$f extension ${\kappa}X$ and the minimal basically diconneted cover ${\Lambda}{\kappa}X$ of ${\kappa}X$ is weakly Lindel$\ddot{o}$f, we first show that ${\Lambda}_{{\kappa}X}:{\Lambda}{\kappa}X{\rightarrow}{\kappa}X$ is a $z^{\sharp}$-irreducible map and that ${\Lambda}{\beta}X={\beta}{\Lambda}{\kappa}X$. And we show that ${\kappa}{\Lambda}X={\Lambda}{\kappa}X$ if and only if ${\Lambda}^{\kappa}_X:{\kappa}{\Lambda}X{\rightarrow}{\kappa}X$ is an onto map and ${\beta}{\Lambda}X={\Lambda}{\beta}X$.

  • Background : Activation of the transcription factor NF-${\kappa}B$ has been shown to protect cells from tumor necrosis factor-alpha, chemotherapy, and radiation-induced apoptosis. NF-${\kappa}B$-dependent cIAP expression is a major antiapoptotic mechanism for that. NF-${\kappa}B$ activation and cIAP expression in A549 lung cancer cells which is relatively resistant to radiation-induced cell death were investigated for the mechanism of radioresistance. Materials and methods : We used A549 lung cancer cells and Clinac 1800C linear accelerator for radiation. Cell viability test was done by MTT assay. NF-${\kappa}B$ activation was tested by luciferase reporter gene assay, Western blot for $I{\kappa}B{\alpha}$ degradation, and electromobility shift assay. For blocking ${\kappa}B$, MG132 and transfection of $I{\kappa}B{\alpha}$-superrepressor plasmid construct were used. cIAP expression was analyzed by RT-PCR and cIAP2 promoter activity was performed using luciferase assay system. Results : MTT assay showed that cytotoxicity even 48 hr after radiation in A549 cells were less than 20%. Luciferas assay demonstrated weak NF-${\kappa}B$ activation of $1.6{\pm}0.2$ fold compared to PMA-induced $3.4{\pm}0.9$ fold. Radiation-induced $I{\kappa}B{\alpha}$ degradation was observed in Western blot and NF-${\kappa}B$ DNA binding was confirmed by EMSA. However, blocking NF-${\kappa}B$ using MG132 and $I{\kappa}B{\alpha}$-superrepressor transfection did not show any sensitizing effect for radiation-induced cell death. The result of RT-PCR for cIAP1 & 2 expression was negative induction while TNF-${\alpha}$ showed strong expression for cIAP1 & 2. The cIAP2 promoter activity also did not show any change compared to positive control with TNF-${\alpha}$. Conclusion : We conclude that activation of NF-${\kappa}B$ does not determine the intrinsic radiosensitivity of cancer cells, at least for the cell lines tested in this study.

  • The problem of top-${\kappa}$ set similarity joins finds the top-${\kappa}$ pairs of records ranked by their similarities between two sets of input records. We propose an efficient algorithm to return top-${\kappa}$ similarity join pairs using a sampling technique. From a sample of the input records, we construct a histogram of set similarity joins, and then compute an estimated similarity threshold in the histogram for top-${\kappa}$ join pairs within the error bound of 95% confidence level based on statistical inference. Finally, the estimated threshold is applied to the traditional similarity join algorithm which uses the min-heap structure to get top-${\kappa}$ similarity joins. The experimental results show the good performance of the proposed algorithm on large real datasets.
