  • Keumsan-gun is the area where there are many mobile populations as the place to be adjacent to Daejon. There is the tendency that the empty houses at Keumsan area are increasing as 1,115 houses every year as of 2001. So, this researcher examined and analyzed the actual state by grasping the present situation of empty houses centering around Keumsan-gun. And, this researcher could obtain the following conclusion as the result that this researcher progressed the study so as to present the application scheme of empty houses. As for Keumsan-gun, farming populations are more than other city and gun at Choongcheong Southern Proince Area as the area formed with mountain groups topographically. Thus, it is forecast that the appearance of empty houses will increase, as the population decrease and the residents to have migration plan will appear higher than other city and gun in the future also. Therefore, as for the superannuated empty houses that use is impossible, to service by removing will be helpful to the image uplifting of village. In addition, as for the empty houses that use is possible, the establishment of system to connect buyers by rebuilding them as garden houses and weekend houses etc. through purchase and sale and long-term lease etc. is necessary.

  • To establish a cultivation system of Sedum sarmentosum using a rice nursery tray ($30{\times}60{\times}3\;cm$) in non-heating plastic film house, cuttings of two local strains (Wanju and Keumsan) were prepared and planted at different planting densities (40, 60 and 80 cuttings per tray) on September 7th, and subsequent growth and yield at pre- and post-winter season were investigated. When pre-wintering growth were measured at 60 days after planting, high planting density (80 cuttings/tray) decreased leaf length and lateral shoot number per plant compared to 40 cuttings/tray. When post-wintering growth were measured on April 20th, no significant growth differences as affected by planting density were observed in Keumsan strain, while decreased stem diameter, node number and leaf number were observed in Wanju strain planted at 80 cuttings/tray compared to 40 cuttings/tray. Fresh and dry weights were not significantly different as affected by planting density, but those were significantly increased in Wanju strain compared to Keumsan strain. When regrowth characteristics followed by the first harvest were measured on June 5th, significantly increased stem number was observed at 80 cuttings/tray compared to 40 cuttings/ tray. Fresh and dry weight were significantly increased in Keumsan strain planted at 80 cuttings/tray compared to 40 cuttings/tray, and dry weight were increased in Wanju strain compared to Keumsan strain. Wanju strain showed higher shoot yield, thicker stem, shorter node and larger leaf, and non-succulent stem under high planting density compared to Keumsan strain. Accordingly, the optimum density was 40 cuttings per tray, and Wanju strain was adequate for the cultivation system using a rice nursery tray.

  • Different ages of the ginsengs were collected from the three soil areas, such as granite, phyllite and shale of Keumsan, with their field soils. Of the soils, phyllite and shale areas are high in the Ni, Cr, Co, Sc, V, As, Cu and Zn contents while the granite areas are low in the W, Pb, Th, U, Sn and Be contents. In the correlation coefficient of the soils, positive and negative relationships of the elements are mainly high in the shale and low in the granite area. Comparing between 2- and 3- year ginsengs, 2-year ginsengs are mainly high in most elements, especially for the granite and phyllite areas. In the regional comparisons among the same ages, the granite areas are mainly low and high in the shale area for the most of the elements. Comparisons among the parts of ginsengs suggest high contents in the most of the elements at the upper parts. In the comparisons between the top soils and ginseng compositions, top soils are mainly high and show similar increase/decrease trends between them. Following the transitional element contents, the granite area is best for the ginseng cultivation while , among the three areas, the shale area is worst.

  • This study was carried out to investigate exercise load of visitors and physical condition of stairway in the trail of Keumsan located in Hallyo-Haesang National Park. Total trail length of Keumsan is 2,126m, and the number of step-trail section are 15, and the total length of step-trail section is 1,000.4m. Average gradient of step-trail was 20~40%. But the gradient and length were 45.7% and 268.5m in the section 11, and 58.4% and 188.6m in the section 12. The greatest gradient was 67.8% in the section 13. During the climbing in trail, heart rate were 104~184beats/min.. And in the step-trail section 11, 12, and 13, IHR, ELI, and %HRmax were 166.5%, 89.1%, 92.9%, and 167.4%, 89.6%, 93.2%, and 157.8%, 84.5%, 89.9%, respectively.

  • Igneous rocks occurring in the northwesern part of Keumsan area, Chungcheongnam-do were studied petrogeochemically. The geology of this area is composed mainly of the Precambrian biotite gneiss, age-unknown Ogchon supergroup, Jurassic biotite granite, and Cretaceous volcanic rocks, pink feldspar granite and quartz porphyry. The biotite granite is gradually changes to leucocratic nature by going from center to periphery of the rock mass. It shows variation, with distance from the center, in chemical components: $SiO_2,\;Na_2O\;and\;K_2O$ increase, whereas $Fe_2O_3,\;CaO,\;P_2O_5,\;MgO,\;and\;TiO_2$ decrease. Based on geochemical data, the biotite granite and quartz porphyry belong to subalkaline series and I-type. They show calc-alkaline differentiation trend. The biotite granite shows little negative Eu-anomaly pattern, whereas quartz porphyry show marked negative Eu-anomaly pattern, indicating that quartz porphyry was evolved further, when compared with biotite granite.
