Development of Automatic Gamma Control System for mobile LCD Applications (모바일 LCD 응용을 위한 자동 감마 제어 시스템 개발)

  • This paper presents automatic LCD gamma control system using gamma curve optimization. It controls automatically gamma adjustment registers in mobile LCD driver IC to reduce average gamma error and adjusting time. The proposed gamma system contains module-under-test (MUT, LCD module), PC installed with program, multimedia display tester for measuring luminance, and control board for interface between PC and LCD module. We have developed a new algorithm using 6-point programmable matching technique with reference gamma curve. Developed algorithm and program are generally applicable for most of the LCD modules.

  • LCD Enterprises introduce quality management strategy to survive in rapid change of production situation. Especially in LCD industry, competitiveness is more needed ever before in the decrease of investment resulted from frequent business fluctuations and in the appearance of the third competitor. In order to overcome this situation, the quality cost system should be implemented as it is suited to a company, but few companys introduce and apply the quality cost system in LCD industry. Thus, Critical factors for outstanding LCD company to apply successfully quality cost system are studied in this paper. The level of importance of the factors is measured be weighted value analysis and a way to maximize the effect of applying quality cost system in LCD industry is proposed by the order of importance.

  • This paper describes a Gray Mode Graphic STN LCD drive circuit using USB interface. The drive circuit using USB interface can highly transfer image data created under PC t LCD. Hence, the LCD drive circuit doesn't use microprocessor for the convenience of users. The proposed LCD drive circuit part have been verified by simulation and by ALTERA EPF10K10TC144-3 FPGA implementation in VHDL. The USB interface part have been programmed in MS-Visual C++ 6.0. The validity and efficiency of the proposed LCD drive circuit have been verified by test board. After comparing this LCD drive circuit to specify it was verified that the developed LCD drive circuit showed good performances, such as convenience of users, low cost.

  • Transfer characteristics of poly-Si TFTs within process window of laser energy are investigated. In terms of surface morphology and transfer characteristics, process window of laser crystallization is evaluated. While maximum mobility exists in lower edge of process window in n-channel TFTs, maximum mobility exists in higher edge of process window in p-channel TFTs.

  • In this paper, some automatic inspection algorithms for LCD module are suggested. Human eyes are very good for the inspection in many industrial areas. However, very bright LCD back lighting may cause permanent damage to the human eyes. Also, the growing size of the LCD make it more difficult for the human inspectors. Therefore, using camera set, automatic inspection process becomes very essential for the future LCD industry.

  • The visual perception tests were conducted to determine limits of luminance of a LCD TV from a viewpoint of glare. The results showed that people, who watch TV in their living room, perceive glare above $410\;cd/m^2$ at full window and $590\;cd/m^2$ at 1/25 window.

  • We developed Super IPS mode TFT-LCD TV which have contrast ratio over 800:1. To increase contrast ratio, polarizer film, TFT design and color filter photoresist are investigated. In this report, we describe the basic concept and effectiveness of each item. The application of a newly developed color filter photoresist was the most effective for achieving this high contrast ratio.

  • The key development issues in the flexible displays are TFT backplane technology for their various applications, which requires competitive device performance as well as its low temperature process. In this paper, with shortly reviewing recent flexible display development status, we describe technical trends of low-temperature a-Si TFTs. Our TFTs show good device characteristics enough to apply LCD and electrophoretic display.

  • This paper presents a thermally adaptive driving (TAD) technology for response time compensation of LCD with integrated sensor. The TAD is comprised of analog sensor signal conditioning and a digital feedback algorithm. Utilizing with a digital feedback system, TAD reduces response time of nearly 50% over the temperature range $0^{\circ}C-60^{\circ}C$.

  • The objective of the research presented in this paper is to design a highly efficient LCD-TV backlight unit (BLU) which minimizes lamp count without light leakage from the BLU. A new optical plate helps to successfully distribute spatial luminance in a 46inch LCD-BLU consisting of only 20 CCFLs.
