  • This study presents a color 3D scanner based on the laser structured-light imaging method that can simultaneously acquire 3D shape data and color of a target object using a single camera. The 3D data acquisition of the scanner is based on the structured-light imaging method, and the color data is obtained from a natural color image. Because both the laser image and the color image are acquired by the same camera, it is efficient to obtain the 3D data and the color data of a pixel by avoiding the complicated correspondence algorithm. In addition to the 3D data, the color data is helpful for enhancing the realism of an object model. The proposed scanner consists of two line lasers, a color camera, and a rotation table. The line lasers are deployed at either side of the camera to eliminate shadow areas of a target object. This study addresses the calibration methods for the parameters of the camera, the plane equations covered by the line lasers, and the center of the rotation table. Experimental results demonstrate the performance in terms of accurate color and 3D data acquisition in this study.

  • In this paper, laser marking systems dedicated to cylinderical parts was developed. We first develop the marking device which consists of Nd-Yag laser, galvano scanner and additional rotational axis, then develop algorithm for supporting the digital image with bmp data format. Additional rotational axis is so attached as to rotate the cylinderical parts for marking its whole surface. The image is separated into line by line and the separated line image is sent to galvano scanner while rotating the additional axis simultaneously. CxImage library, famous open source code, is employed for the image processing. The developed method was tested with various images and shows that it reduces marking time significantly without reducing marking quality.

  • The research for the development of roll-to-roll printing process is actively underway on behalf of the existing semiconductor process. The roll-to-roll printing system can make the electronic devices to low-cost mass production. This study is performed for developing the manufacturing technology of the printing roll used in the printing process of electronic devices. The indirect laser engraving technology is used to create printable roll and the printable roll is made out of the chrome coated roll after coating copper and polymer on the surface of steel roll, ablating the polymer on the surface of roll and etching the roll. The 3 dimensional laser scanner and roll rotating systems are constructed and the system control program is developed. We have used the fiber laser of 100 W grade, the 3 dimensional laser scanner and the 3 axes moving stage system with a rotating axis. We have found the optimal conditions by performing the laser patterning experiments and can make the minimum line width of $24{\mu}m$ by using the developed 3 dimensional laser scanner system.

  • This paper proposes a vision-based underwater laser scanner with separate structures for an underwater camera and a line laser projector. Because the two devices can be adaptively placed regardless of the features of the unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), the scanner has significant advantages in relation to its availability and flexibility. Position calibration between the underwater camera and laser projector guarantees a 3D measuring performance with high accuracy. To verify the proposed underwater laser scanner, a test-bed system was manufactured, which consisted of the laser projector, camera, Pan&Tilt, and Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS). A camera-laser calibration test and simple 3D reconstruction test were performed in a water tank and the experimental results are reported.

  • A high speed laser texturing method that relies on laser scanner conditions, to form pattern shapes with micro-narrow surface detail such as dotted line features is demonstrated and analyzed. For example, this method may be used to piston ring and gear part for automotive. Data on friction characteristics of two laser patterns employed for STD61 steel will be shown. Comparison of pattern depths obtained by repetition overlapping process with laser scanner to the results on friction coefficient will be provide. It will be shown that friction characteristic in dotted line patterns can significantly depend upon interaction with the lubrication and laser pattern conditions. Laser pattern processing into a shallow depth provides only slight improvement in friction, while work into a deep shape indicates a significant improvement.

  • Reverse engineering has been widely used for the shape reconstruction of an object without CAD data and the measurement of clay or wood models for the development of new products. To generate a surface from measured points by a laser scanner, typical steps include the scanning of a clay or wood model and the generation of manufacturing data like STL file. A laser scanner has a great potential to get geometrical data of a model for its fast measuring speed and higher precision. The data from a laser scanner are composed of many line stripes of points. A new approach to remove point data with Delaunay triangulation is introduced to deal with problems during reverse engineering process. This approach can be used to reduce a number of measuring data from laser scanner within tolerance, thus it can avoid the time for handling point data during modelling process and the time for verifying and slicing STL model during RP process.

  • The film scanner that digitizes the conventional x-ray films is the necessary equipment in the transition period of going to the filmless hospital. We have developed the film scanner using laser. We have selected HeNe laser as light source. The polygonal mirror converts the point light source to line scanning light. In sensing part, the diffusing cylinder and 7 photo transistors converts the light signal which passing the film into the electric signal. With this scanner, we can scan successfully the conventional x-ray film by $1024\times1024$. Smaller the spot sire is, higher the resolution can be achieved.

  • The goal of this study is to segment building points effectively utilizing scan-line characteristics of airborne laser scanner. Points are classified as to their altitude similarity and adjacency with other classified points, and point searching range for the classification is restricted within some number of scan-lines, preventing classification speed from lowering as the process goes on. Besides, we detected wrong discrimination of one object into more than two classes, then integrated them into a single class. Consequently we could discriminate points of each building from others, its annexes and none building points simultaneously.

  • To compensate location error of ultrasonic horn, the laser scanning system based on the galvanometer scanner is developed. It consists of the 3-Axis linear stage and the 2-Axis galvanometer scanner. To measure surface shape of three-dimensional free form surface, the dynamic focusing unit is adopted, which can maintain consistent focal plane. With combining the linear stage and the galvanometer scanner, the scanning area is enlarged. The scanning CAD system is developed by stage motion teaching and NURBS method. The laser scanning system is tested by marking experiment with the semi-cylindrical sample. Scanning accuracy is investigated by measured laser marked line width with various scanning speed.

  • Reverse engineering has been widely used for the shape reconstruction of an object without CAD data and the measurement of clay or wood models fur the development of new products. To generate a surface from measured points by a laser scanner, typical steps include the scanning of a clay or wood model, the generation of compatible input curves, the generation of a surface and manufacturing data like G code or STL file. A laser scanner has a great potential to get geometrical data of a model for its frost measuring speed and higher precision. The data from a laser scanner are composed of many line stripes of points including small spikes and noise. A new approach using automated surface generating algorithm is introduced to deal with problems during reverse engineering process. And the input data and the generated surface are represented in IGES format, thus can be supplied to other CAD/CAM software without any data manipulation.
