  • This paper presents design process of linear induction motor in dynamic tester for catenary-current collection. To minimize length of rail for dynamic tester for catenary-current collection, accelerating performance of the linear induction motor is very important. So the design process of linear induction motor considered in this paper is different with general design process of linear induction motor, because dynamic tester has three type driving region, as accelerating region, constant speed region, and braking region. Considering accelerating performance of motor, distance and time from starting point to constant speed region were concerned for load condition of motor. Designed linear induction motor was analyzed by 2-dimensional finite element method. Using mechanical dynamics simulation with analysis result of 2-dimensional finite element method and accelerating performance of designed motor was proved.

  • In difference with the rotary type electrical machinery, the single-sided linear induction motor(SLIM) that generates the direct thrust, is widely used for the operation system of electrified railroad, lope-less elevation system, conveyer system, and so on. The operational principle of single-sided linear induction motor is constructively similar to the general rotary Induction motor It Is difficult to realize the complicate linear induction motor which is applied space vector pulse width modulation(SVPWM) system, but widely used in vector motor control system or servo control system because of its high performance in current control. In this paper, we has modeled the dynamic characteristic analyzing methode, and calculated efficiently the end effect by using equivalent circuit methode in the operating linear Induction motor control system.

  • The author has established a general equation for the travelling magnetic field in air gap with the end effect taken into consideration, which constitutes the basics for the analysis of characteristics of linear induction motor. This equation is verified by comparison of the experimental values with the theoretically calculated values. The properties of the travelling wave with attenuation, which is contained in the travelling magnetic field of linear induction motor, have been verified, and consequently the practicable equation is established with these effects taken into consideration. This provides the solid foundation for the theoretical analysis of the characteristics of the linear induction motor.

  • To effectively cope with a complexity of kinematic metrology due to workspace enlargement of the planar stage, the linear induction motor is suggested as its new driving source. Especially, the linear induction motor under uniform plate type of secondary doesn't inherently have a periodical force ripple which is generally shown in the brushless DC motor. But, it presents a poor transient characteristic at zero or low speed zone owing to time delay of flux settling, resulting in slow response. To improve the servo property of linear induction motor and apply successfully it to the precision stage, this paper discusses a modified vector control methodology. The controller has a novel input form, fixed d-axis current, q-axis current and forward-fed DC current, to control thrust force and normal force of the linear induction motor independently. Influence of the newly introduced input and the feasibility of controller are validated experimentally.

  • In this paper, a study on the efficiency improvement of the magnetic levitation train using the LIM (Linear Induction Motor) was presented. The maglev train has the advantage of being environmentally friendly since much less noise and dust is produced. However, due to structural limitation, compared to a rotating induction motor, linear induction motor, the main propulsion engine of the maglev train has a relatively greater air gap and hence has the lower operation efficiency. In this paper, the relationship between the operating condition of the train and the slip frequency has been investigated to find out the optimum slip frequency that might improve the efficiency of the magnetic levitation train with linear induction motor. The slip frequency is variable during the operation by this relationship only within a range that does not affect the levitation system of the train. After that, the comparison of the efficiency between the conventional control method with the slip frequency fixed at 13.5[Hz] and the proposed method with the slip frequency variable from 9.5[Hz] to 6.5[Hz] has been conducted by simulation using Simplorer. Experiments of 19.5[ton] magnetic levitation trains owned by Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials were carried out to verify the simulation results.
