  • This study deals with the dynamic characteristics analysis of Linear Induction Motor (LIM) using finite element method in which the moving mesh technique is considered. The focus of this paper is to show the appropriate of on-line observer system for position sensorless control of a LIM under the phase asymmetry, saturation and iron loss. Comparisons are given with angle of the observer and that of proposed FEA method of linear induction motor, respectively. The position sensorless control system is realized, and the effective of the observer system is verified by experimental results.

  • The urban transit propelled by single sided linear induction motor(SLIM) have been in stage for practical application. Also, the use of the linear induction motor in traction systems enables large forces to be achieved without friction between wheels and rails. In this paper we discuss the linear induction motor (LIM) drive system (300KVA) for magnetic levitation vehicles.

  • In this paper, a new optimum design method is proposed for the linear induction motor(LIM). The Genetic Neural Network(GNN) is introduced in the optimum design of LIM and the simulation result is compared with the Genetic Algorithm(GA) and Neural Network(NN). The maximum thrust and trust/weight are selected as the object functions. The comparison showed that the proposed method is better than GA and NN.

  • In this paper, we propose the one-Ampere conductor method which is able to calculate the flux distribution conceptually and easily, and the improved winding method which suppresses space harmonics of magnetormotive force and enhances the coefficient of utilization of primary iron core in tubular linear induction motor. We carry out no-load test to verify effectiveness of proposed method and analyze characteristics by finite element method. As a result, performances are improved and propriety of primary iron core is enhanced comparing with conventional model.

  • In the present paper, the mover speed control of a linear induction motor (LIM) using a sliding mode control design is proposed, considering the end effects. First, the indirect field-oriented control LIM is derived, considering the end effects. The sliding mode control design is then investigated to achieve speed- and flux-tracking under load thrust force disturbance. The numerical simulation results of the proposed scheme present good performances in comparison to that of the classical sliding mode control.

  • In this paper a control system with a high performance dynamic response for linear induction motors (LIMs) is proposed which takes into account the end-effect in both the machine model and the control system. Primary flux oriented control has two major drawbacks i.e. a lack of decoupling of the thrust and the flux and a possibility of system instability due to the end-effect. Both of these drawbacks have been dealt with in this paper. A flux estimation method is proposed to correct the flux orientation error caused by the end effect. Extensive motor performance evaluations under the proposed control system prove its superiority over conventional vector control.

  • A linear induction motor conveyance system with longitudinal and transverse rails is manufactured. which is controlled by programmable logic controller(PLC). The linear induction motor has a cage-type secondary and the total number of the installed primaries is 10. Four secondaries are installed on the below surface of the moving carrier. In this paper, the developed conveyance system is introduced and its PLC control characteristics for the longitudial and transverse moving directions are presented.

  • This paper presents the characteristics analysis of an electromagnetic pump using the linear induction motor(LIM). The electromagnetic pump can be used to transfer the molten metals by the electromagnetic force of LIM. The characteristics of the pump are analyzed solving a hydrodynamic equation with an electromagnetic one.

  • In the transverse flux linear induction motor(TFLIM) with the general secondary composed of conductor and back-yoke, there exists a magnetized force into the normal direction or the air-gap direction of the thrust motion as well as the thrust force. Therefore, the various methodologies have been tried to use the normal force by the two independent control variables of the multi-phase input. But, as the force depends inevitably and strongly on the thrust force, it is essential to decouple both forces for two control index. In this paper, we suggest a novel approach capable of compensating the couple between both forces and the control index by using the DC-biased multi-phase input, and then realizing the independent control of TFLIM.
