  • The T-junction exists widely in industrial engineering, especially in nuclear power plants, which plays an important part in nuclear power reactor thermal-hydraulics. However, the existing prediction models of the liquid entrainment are mainly based on the small branches or small breaks while there are a few researches for large branches (d/D > 0.2). Referring to the classical models about the onset of liquid entrainment of the T-junction, most of previous models regard liquid as ideal working fluid and ignore surface tension. This paper aims to study the effect of surface tension on the liquid entrainment, and develops an improved model based on the reasonable assumption. The establishment of new model employs the methods of force analysis, dimensional analysis. Besides, the dimensionless Weber number is adopted innovatively into the model to show the effect of surface tension. What is more, in order to validate the new model, three kinds of working fluids with different surface tensions are creatively adopted in the experiments: water, silicone oil and ethyl alcohol. The final results show that surface tension has a nonnegligible effect on the onset of liquid entrainment in large branch T-junction. The new model is well matched with the experimental data.

  • The densification process during liquid-phase sintering was simulated by Monte Carlo simulation. The Potts model, which had been applied to coarsening during liquid-phase sintering, was modified to include vapor particles. The results of two- and threedimensional simulations showed a temporal decrease in porosity, in other words, densification, and an increase in the average size of pores. The results also showed growth of solid grains and the effect of wetting angle on microstructure.

  • Gibbs ensemble Monte Carlo simulations were performed to calculate the vapor-liquid coexistence properties for the binary mixtures $CO_2/CH_3OH$, $CO_2/C_2H_5OH$, and $CO_2/CH_3CH_2CH_2OH.$ The configurational bias Monte Carlo method was used in the simulation of alcohol. Density of the mixture, composition of the mixture, the pressure-composition diagram, and the radial distribution function were calculated at vapor-liquid equilibrium. The composition and the density of both vapor and liquid from simulation agree considerably well with the experimental values over a wide range of pressures. The radial distribution functions in the liquid mixtures show that $CO_2$ molecules interact more stogly with methyl group than methylene group of $C_2H_5OH$ and $CH_3CH_2CH_2OH$ due to the steric effects of the alcohol molecules.

  • An air source heat pump using liquid injection technique, which can be applied for very low temperature climate, has been simulated to examine the design options. Comparison between the simulation and experiment has been carried out to validate the simulation method. Effects of various design parameters such as liquid injection rate and injection pressure are Investigated to optimize the performance of the heat pump. Finally, optimal liquid infection rate and injection pressure to maintain sufficient heating capacity and moderate discharge refrigerant temperature are suggested when the heat pump was operated at very low outdoor temperature.

  • The characteristics of the flow and energy conversion in OMACON liquid-metal MHD system are investigated. Numerical simulation of two-phase flow in the OMACON system without magnetic field was carried out by the Phoenics code and the energy conversion characteristics are studied in association with the fact that the mechanical energy loss at the nozzle of the OMACON system are to be converted into electrical energy. In this system, working fluid (gas) is injected through the mixer located at the bottom of the riser, and is mixed with hot liquid metal. Therefore in the riser two-phase flow is developed under the influence of the gravity. In this study, the interaction between the gas and liquid is considered by the use of IPSA(InterPhase Slip Algorithm) where standard drag coefficient has been used. It has been assumed that in the flow regime the liquid is continuous and the gas is dispersed. For the liquid and gas, the continuity equations, momentum equations and energy equations are solved respectively in association with void fraction in the flow field. In order to calculate the energy conversion efficiency, firstly the ratio of the mechanical energy loss of liquid metal flow at the nozzle to the input thermal energy is considered. Secondly flow pattern of liquid metal in the generator has been analyzed, and the characteristics of the conversion of the mechanical energy into the electrical energy has been investigated. For an representative case where Hartmann number is 540 and magnetic field is 0.35 T, the present analysis shows that the energy conversion efficiency is 0.653. This result is considered to be reasonable in comparison with published experimental results.

  • Thermoacoustic oscillations (TAOs) could be often observed in liquid helium cryogenic system especially in half-open tubes. These tubes have closed warm end (300K) and open cold end (usually 4.4K). This phenomenon significantly induces additional heat load to cryogenic system and other undesirable effects. This work focuses on using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method to study TAOs in liquid helium. The calculated physical model, numerical scheme and algorithm, and wall boundary conditions were introduced. The simulation results of onset process of thermoacoustic oscillations were presented and analyzed. In addition, other important characteristics including phase relation and frequency were studied. Moreover, comparisons between experiments and the CFD simulations were made, which demonstrated thevalidity of CFD simulation. CFD simulation can give us a better understanding of onset mechanism of TAOs and nonlinear characteristics in liquid helium cryogenic system.

  • T-junction structures play an important role in nuclear power plant systems. Research on liquid entrainment is mostly based on small-scale branch pipes (d/D ≤ 0.2) and attention paid to large-scale branch pipes (0.33 < d/D < 1) is insufficient. Accordingly, this study implements a series of experiments on the liquid entrainment of T-junction with different angles (32.2°,47.9°,62.3°,90°) through a large-scale branch (d/D = 0.675). The onset liquid entrainment is related to the gas phase Froude number Frg, the dimensionless gas chamber height hb/d and the branch pipe angle 𝜃. As Frg increases, hb/d also rises. With a constant hb/d, the onset liquid entrainment changes from droplets entrainment by the gas phase to that by the rising liquid film. The steady-state liquid entrainment is related to w3g, h/d and 𝜃. With constant w3g and h/d, the branch quality grows as the branch angle increases. With a certain h/d, the branch quality increases, as the w3g number increases.

  • In this study, application of polypropylene hollow fiber membrane contactors for $CO_2$ removal from water in liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) mode was simulated. For this purpose, a steady state 2D mathematical model was developed. In this model axial and radial diffusion was considered to $CO_2$ permeation through the hollow fibers. $CO_2$ laden water is fed at a constant flow rate into the lumen side, permeated through the pores of membrane and at the end of this process, $CO_2$ solution in the lumen side was extracted by means of aqueous diethanolamine (DEA) and chemical reaction. The simulation results were validated with the experimental data and it was found a good agreement between them, which confirmed the reliability of the proposed model. Both simulation and experimental results confirmed the reduction in the percentage of $CO_2$ removal by increment of feed flow rate.

  • In this paper, mathematical models of a simulation code are presented. The simulation code was developed for the startup analysis of an open cycle liquid rocket engine (LRE). Most of the components comprising an LRE, including the priming process in the propellant feeding line, were considered. A startup simulation of a 75-tonf LRE, which was used for the KSLV-II test launch vehicle (TLV), was performed. The simulation results showed good agreement with the engine acceptance test results, thus proving the validity of the startup simulation code.

So far, NPR represent study for gas and liquid advanced in computer graphics. In this study the flow of fluid represent using a trivial algorithm using a non-physical method, and optical of liquid represent ratio of value of reflection and refraction using fresnel equation. Cartoon represent of liquid different from the existing method, that the value of reflection and refraction on the environment map. Edge detection represent jump edge of liquid. As a result, the liquid simulation could represent a cartoon.
