Economic Performance of an EWMA Chart for Monitoring MMSE-Controlled Processes

  • Statistical process control(SPC) and engineering process control(EPC) are two complementary strategies for quality improvement. An integrated process control(IPC) can use EPC to reduce the effect of predictable quality variations and SPC to monitor the process for detection of special causes. In this paper we assume an IMA(1,1) model as a disturbance process and an occurrence of a level shift in the process, and we consider the economic performance for applying an EWMA chart to monitor MMSE-controlled processes. The numerical results suggest that the IPC scheme in an IMA(1,1) disturbance model does not give additional advantages in the economic aspect.

Low-Complexity Speech Enhancement Algorithm Based on IMCRA Algorithm for Hearing Aids (보청기를 위한 IMCRA 기반 저연산 음성 향상 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we proposed a low-complexity speech enhancement algorithm based on a improved minima controlled recursive averaging (IMCRA) and log minimum mean square error (logMMSE). The IMCRA algorithm track the minima value of input power within buffers in local window and identify the speech presence using ratio between input power and its minima value. In this process, many number of operations are required. To reduce the number of operations of IMCRA algorithm, minima value is tracked using time-varying frequency-dependent smoothing based on speech presence probability. The proposed algorithm enhanced speech quality by 2.778%, 3.481%, 2.980% and 2.162% in 0, 5, 10 and 15dB SNR respectively and reduced computational complexity by average 9.570%.

  • Two widely used approaches for improving the quality of the output of a process are statistical process control (SPC) and automatic process control (APC). In recent hybrid processes that combine aspects of the process and parts industries, process variations due to both the inherent wandering and special causes occur commonly, and thus simultaneous application of APC and SPC schemes is needed to effectively keep such processes close to target. The simultaneous implementation of APC and SPC schemes is called integrated process control (IPC). In the IPC procedure, the output variables are monitored during the process where adjustments are repeatedly done by its controller. For monitoring the APC-controlled process, control charts can be generally applied to the output variable. However, as an alternative, some authors suggested that monitoring the input variable may improve the chance of detection. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of several monitoring statistics, such as the output variable, the input variable, and the difference variable, for efficiently monitoring the APC-controlled process when we assume IMA(1,1) noise model with a minimum mean squared error adjustment policy.

Recent RCT Research on the Effects of Acupuncture on Dementia - Based on a PubMed Search of Literature Published from 2000 to 2018 (치매의 침치료에 대한 해외 RCT 연구 동향 - pubmed의 2000~2018년 검색을 통하여 -)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate recent clinical studies on the effects of acupuncture on dementia. Method: We searched RCTs (randomized controlled trials) using the database PubMed (2000-2018). Clinical RCT studies of acupuncture used to treat dementia in humans were included. Nine randomized controlled trials were included. Results: Various acupoints such as Baihui (GV20), Sishencong (EX-HN1), Fengchi (GB20), and Shenting (GV24) were used to treat symptoms. The studies reported a decrease in evaluation criteria, such as the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and activities of daily living (ADL), for measuring cognitive ability. The acupuncture process, the results for outcome measure, and the effectiveness of studies were analyzed. We then assessed "risk of bias." Conclusions: Through this review, we found that acupuncture is applicable for the treatment of dementia. This can be used for future study.
