Development and Evaluation of Alternative Nutrition Signposting Concepts (알기 쉬운 영양성분 전면표시 시안 개발 및 평가)

  • To promote the adoption of healthier eating patterns, this study was aimed to develop and evaluate alternative front of pack nutrition signposting concepts. Based on previous research, we developed two signposting concepts, Multiple Traffic Light (MTL) and Multiple Traffic Light with % Daily Value (MTL-%DV). The signposts featured three key nutrients, total sugar, saturated fat, and sodium. Actual food packaging with no front of pack signposting (NoSP) was included in the evaluation to act as a benchmark against which to compare the performance of the different signposting options. Using an interviewer administered method, we assessed the degree of understanding and time to interpret on a total of 534 subjects (194 elementary, 108 middle, and 103 high schoolers, 128 adults). In the individual product evaluations, MTL (87.0%) obtained the highest level of correct responses, followed by MTL-%DV (83.1%) and NoSP (52.2%). Except for signposting concepts, age, gender and living area were not associated with the degree of correct responses in multivariate analyses. When used to compare products with different colors of nutrient contents, correct responses were more than 90% for MTL-%DV (91.5%) and MTL (90.3%). The middle and high schoolers revealed the lower likelihood of correct response compared to the other two groups. In case of comparing products with same colors of nutrient contents, the proportion of correct responses was the highest in NoSP (90%), followed by MTL%DV (77.4%) and MTL (48.5%). In terms of time to interpret, MTL-%DV and MTL performed better than NoSP in the individual product evaluation and the comparison of two products with different colors of nutrient contents. NoSP performed the best in the comparison of two products with same colors of nutrient contents. A majority of the participants preferred MTL-%DV (78%) most and thought it the most useful in helping them make healthier food choices. Based on these findings, MTL-%DV was considered to most closely meet the objectives of the initiatives.

  • The mannitol transporter Enzyme $II^{Mtl}$ of the bacterial phosphotransferase system has two cytoplasmic phosphoryl transfer domains $IIA^{Mtl}$ and $IIB^{Mtl}$. The two domains are linked by a flexible peptide linker in mesophilic bacterial strains, whereas they are expressed as separated domains in thermophilic strains. Here, we carried out backbone assignment of $IIA^{Mtl}$ from thermophilic Thermoanaerobacter Tencongensis using a suite of heteronuclear triple resonance NMR spectroscopy. We have completed 94% of the backbone assignment, and obtained secondary structural information based on torsion angles derived from the chemical shifts. $IIA^{Mtl}$ of Thermoanaerobacter Tencongensis is predicted to have six ${\beta}$ strands and six ${\alpha}$ helices, which is analogous to $IIA^{Mtl}$ of Escherichia coli.

  • 본 논문에서는 체험형 VR 환경을 고려한 다중 AHRS 기반의 MTL 디바이스를 제안한다. 제안하는 MTL 디바이스는 신체부위에 복수개의 AHRS 디바이스를 부착하고 이를 기준으로 좌표계를 정의하여 9축 움직임 정보를 기반으로 사용자의 동작을 추정한다. 그리고 전송 효율 향상과 모션투포톤(MTP) 지연시간을 최소화하기 위해 SPI 인터페이스를 통해 유선으로 직접 연결하고, 자세정보를 취합하여 서버로 전송한다.

Multi-Class SVM+MTL for the Prediction of Corporate Credit Rating with Structured Data

  • Many studies have focused on the prediction of corporate credit rating using various data mining techniques. One of the most frequently used algorithms is support vector machines (SVM), and recently, novel techniques such as SVM+ and SVM+MTL have emerged. This paper intends to show the applicability of such new techniques to multi-classification and corporate credit rating and compare them with conventional SVM regarding prediction performance. We solve multi-class SVM+ and SVM+MTL problems by constructing several binary classifiers. Furthermore, to demonstrate the robustness and outstanding performance of SVM+MTL algorithm over other techniques, we utilized four typical multi-class processing methods in our experiments. The results show that SVM+MTL outperforms both conventional SVM and novel SVM+ in predicting corporate credit rating. This study contributes to the literature by showing the applicability of new techniques such as SVM+ and SVM+MTL and the outperformance of SVM+MTL over conventional techniques. Thus, this study enriches solving techniques for addressing multi-class problems such as corporate credit rating prediction.

Transiently Experessed Salt-Stress Protection of Rice by Transfer of a Bacterial Gene, mtlD

  • Productivity of a rice plant is greatly influenced by salt stress. One of the ways to achieve tolerance to salinity is to transfer genes encoding protective enzymes from other organisms, such as microorganisms. The bacterial gene, mtlD, which encodes mannitol-1-phosphate dehydrogenase (Mtl-DH), was introduced to the cytosol of a rice plant by an imbibition technique to overproduce mannitol. The germination and survival rate of the imbibed rice seeds were markedly increased by transferring the mtlD gene when it was delivered in either a pBIN19 or pBmin binary vector. When a polymerase chain reaction was performed with the genomic DNAs of the imbibed rice leaves as a template and with mtlD-specific primers, several lines were shown to contain an exogenous mtlD DNA. However, a reverse transcription (RT)-PCR analysis revealed that not all of them showed an expression of this foreign gene. This paper demonstrates that the growth and germination of rice plants transiently transformed with the bacterial gene, mtlD, are enhanced and these enhancements may have resulted from the experssion of the mtlD gene. The imbibition method empolyed in this study fulfills the requirements for testing the function of such a putative gene in vivo prior to the production of a stable transgenic plant.

Backbone Assignment of Phosphorylated Cytoplasmic Domain B of Mannitol Transporter IIMtl in Thermoanaerobacter Tengcongensis

  • The cytoplasmic domains A and B of the mannitol transporter enzyme $II^{Mtl}$ are covalently linked in Escherichia coli, but separately expressed in Thermoanaerobacter Tengcongensis. The phosphorylation of domain B ($TtIIB^{Mtl}$) substantially increases the binding affinity to the domain A ($TtIIA^{Mtl}$) in T. Tengcongensis. To understand the structural basis of the enhanced domain-domain interaction by protein phosphorylation, we obtained NMR backbone assignments of the phospho-$TtIIB^{Mtl}$ using a standard suite of triple resonance experiments. Our results will be useful to monitor chemical shift changes at the active site of phosphorylation and the binding interfaces.

  • This paper verifies the following two: First, I verify the standard completeness proof for the system $ULw_t$ is not correct in the sense that t-weakening uninorms are t-norms, but not weakening-free uninorms. Second, I verify that the proof for $ULw_t$ can be used for the system MTL. That is, I provide a new standard completeness proof for it.

  • This paper deals with Routley-Meyer-style semantics, which will be called algebraic Routley-Meyer-style semantics, for the fuzzy logic system MTL. First, we recall the monoidal t-norm logic MTL and its algebraic semantics. We next introduce algebraic Routley-Meyer-style semantics for it, and also connect this semantics with algebraic semantics.

Molecular Cloning and Characterization of Mannitol-1-Phosphate Dehydrogenase from Vibrio cholerae

  • Vibrio cholerae utilizes mannitol through an operon of the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent phosphotransferase (PTS) type. A gene, mtlD, encoding mannitol-1-phosphate dehydrogenase was identified within the 3.9 kb mannitol operon of V. cholerae. The mtlD gene was cloned from V. cholerae O395, and the recombinant enzyme was functionally expressed in E. coli as a $6{\times}$His-tagged protein and purified to homogeneity. The recombinant protein is a monomer with a molecular mass of 42.35 kDa. The purified recombinant MtlD reduced fructose 6-phosphate (F6P) using NADH as a cofactor with a $K_m$ of $1.54{\pm}0.1$ mM and $V_{max}$ of $320.8{\pm}7.81\;{\mu}mol$/min/mg protein. The pH and temperature optima for F6P reduction were determined to be 7.5 and $37^{\circ}C$, respectively. Using quantitative real-time PCR analysis, mtlD was found to be constitutively expressed in V. cholerae, but the expression was up-regulated when grown in the presence of mannitol. The MtlD expression levels were not significantly different between V. cholerae O1 and non-O1 strains.
