  • In this paper, Ive propose a bow-tie-shaped meander slot antenna find by a microstrip line to achieve compact size as well as wideband characteristic. While conventional bow-tie slot antennas exhibit wide band characteristic, they have relatively large size. On the other hand, the meander slot antennas are very small, but they reveal quite narrow bandwidth (typically less than 1 %). To realize miniaturized antennas balling large bandwidth, combination of the bow-tie slot and the meander slot geometries is proposed in this paper. Theoretical results show that the proposed antenna with uniform slot width is 65.5 % smaller than that of the conventional bow-tie antenna in size, while the bandwidth is 3 times larger than that of the meander slot antenna. Moreover, the non-uniform slot width antenna shows 60 % smaller in size and about 3.5 times wider in bandwidth than the previous antennas. Measured antenna performance reveals excellent agreement with the predicted values.

  • The various properties such as the electric current distribution, resonant frequency and radiation patterns of open-ended meander slot antenna placed on a small ground plane, are investigated to give the help in performing antenna design. Based upon these characteristics, the designed antenna which is only 22mm($0.06{\lambda}_g$) in height and 31mm($0.09{\lambda}_g$) in width can operate at the 433 MHz with the measured radiation efficiency of 8% and end-fire radiation pattern. These properties make the antenna suitable for the handheld device such as the wireless remote controller.

  • A meander slot antenna with open-end fed by a microstrip line which can be used at 400 MHz ISM band is newly proposed. The main difference between the proposed slot antenna and the previous slot antenna is the introduction of the open-end to miniaturize the previous meander slot antenna in the space restricted within narrow limit. In order to check the validity of the proposed antenna, the resonant frequency and radiation pattern of the proposed antenna have been simulated and examined. Good agreements between simulated results and measured results have been observed.

  • In this paper, A compact ultra-wideband(UWB) bandpass filter(BPF) with WLAN notched filter has been proposed. H-shaped slot is studied and adopted to tighten the coupling of inter-digital capacitor in order to improve the BPF's performance. Three pairs of tapered defected ground structures(DGS) are formed to assign their transmission zeros towards the out of band signal, thereby suppressing the spurious passband. Also Meander line slot is developed to reject the undesired wireless local-area network(WLAN) radio signals. That's combining these three structures we obtain a small sized UWB BPF.

  • Bowtie shaped meander slot antenna with harmonic suppression is designed and demonstrated experimentally. A substrate with height of 0.508 mm and relative permittivity of 2.5 is used, and the fundamental resonant frequency is 5.536 GHz. With thin conductor line in the antenna, harmonic suppression characteristic is obtained, and return losses at the 2nd and 3rd harmonic frequencies are -0.56 dB and -1.9 dB, respectively. Also, bowtie shape is applied to the antenna design for bandwidth enhancement, and the resulting bandwidth is 3.7 %, which is about three times wider than the reported meander slot antenna with harmonic suppression$\^$[1],[2]/.

  • Two substrate integrated waveguide (SIW)-based antennas for the application of software-defined radar are proposed and investigated herein. It is usually well known that SIWs are easily integrated, lightweight, have low insertion loss, and low interference levels compared to conventional microstrip structures. The primary function of the proposed antennas is to transmit continuous waves for indoor motion detection, with the lowest amount of loss and an appropriate amount of gain. Moreover, the results of this study show that the size of the antenna can be reduced significantly (i.e., by about 40%) by applying a meander line structure. The operating frequencies of the proposed antennas are both within the industrial, scientific, and medical band (i.e., 2.4-2.4835 GHz). Measured results of return loss are -16 dB and -20 dB at 2.435 GHz and 2.43 GHz, respectively, and the measured gain is 8.2 dBi and 5.5 dBi, respectively. Antenna design and verification are undertaken through commercially available full electromagnetic software.

  • Satae cheon, a tributary of the Suip cheon in Yanggu, Gangwon province, is an international river extended to North Korea. Most of drainage basin area of the river was the fierce battle field during the Korean War(1950-1953) and hard to access as it located between the MDL(Military Demarcation Line) and the CCZ(Civilian Control Zone: about 10km south from MDL). By the restriction of access to the sites, most of natural landscape have been well conserved except limited use for military activities. Even the landfoms in that area were not studied, except the government's heritage reports. Satae Cheon's channel follows the Imdang fault line(N-S) to Satae-ri and flow to west to the Dutayeon area. The river meanders along geological structure or weak line at the Dutayeon area. The meandering channel was shorten by the meander cut which linked the thalweg line of meander loop ant the meander neck. As a result of this cut, the river cliff formed by the Satae cheon became the part of newly formed channel bed and the S-forms are formed. After the channel route stabilized, channel incised the rock with large potholes and undulating walls were formed. The channel width changes from 1m to 10m with restriction of the undulating walls, so this part can be regarded as inner channel or inner gorge. From the point of planar forms it also can be slot-type canyon.

  • When the crew or passengers fall into the water due to marine accident of vessel, it is very important to rescue them quickly. In the case of marine accidents, most people in distress have been wearing a lifejacket, so if the GPS and Cospas-Sarsat communication module will be integrated within the lifejacket, it is easy to rescue them. In this paper, development of the dual band lifejacket-integrated antenna for GPS and Cospas-Sarsat communication is discussed. The antenna with the FR-4 substrate of 0.2mm thickness for flexibility was designed that it can be fitted close to the shoulder of the life jacket and operate at 1.575GHz and 406MHz. The GPS communication antenna was implemented with a ring-slot antenna having a circular polarized characteristic and a meander type linear polarized antenna is used as Cospas-Sarsat communication. The two antennas are fed by a single microstrip line and an open stub is used to minimize the mutual interference between the two antennas. The performance of the fabricated antenna attached to the life vest is confirmed by the measurement of the return loss at GPS and Cospas-Sarsat frequency bands.
