  • Background: Ecosystem service mapping is an important tool for decision-making in landscape planning and natural resource management. Today, pollination service mapping is based on the Lonsdorf model (InVEST software) that determines the availability of nesting and floral resources for each land cover and estimates pollination according to the foraging range of the desired species. However, it is argued that the Lonsdorf model has significant limitations in estimating pollination in a landscape that can affect the results of this model. Results: This paper presents a free software, named PollMap, that does not have the limitations of the Lonsdorf model. PollMap estimates the pollination service according to a modified version of the Lonsdorf model and assumes that only cells within the flight range of bees are important in the pollination mapping. This software is produced for estimating and mapping crop pollination in agricultural landscapes. The main assumption of this software is that in the agricultural landscapes, which are dominated by forest and agriculture ecosystems, forest patches serve only as a nesting habitat for wild bees and the surrounding fields provide floral resources. Conclusion: The present study provided new software for mapping crop pollination in agricultural landscapes that does not have the limitations of the Lonsdorf model. We showed that the use of the Lonsdorf model for pollination mapping requires attention to the limitations of this model, and by removing these limitations, we will need new software to obtain a reliable mapping of pollination in agricultural landscapes.

  • If the topology changes in the re-generation step of the history-based and feature-based CAD systems, it is difficult to identify an entity in the old model and find the same entity in the new model. This problem is known as 'persistent naming problem'. To exchange parametric CAD models, the persistent naming problem and the naming mapping problem must be solved among different CAD system, which use different naming scheme. For CAD model exchange the persistent naming has its own characteristics compare to that for CAD system development. This paper analyses previous researches and proposes a solution to the persistent naming problem for CAD model exchanges and to the naming mapping problem among different naming schemes.

  • For the robust exchange of parametric CAD model data, it is very important to perform mapping rightly and accurately between different CAD models. However, data model mapping is usually performed on a case-by-case basis. This results in the problem that mapping quality fluctuates very widely depending on the abilities of developers. In order to solve this problem, the concept of symantic distance is adapted and applied to the translation of parametric CAD model data in order to measure the difference between different CAD models quantitatively in a computer-interpretable form and systematize the mapping process.

  • Spatial resolution of land covers from remotely sensed images can be increased using super-resolution mapping techniques for soft-classified land cover proportions. A further development of super-resolution mapping technique is downscaling the original remotely sensed image using super-resolution mapping techniques with a forward model. In this paper, the model for increasing spatial resolution of remote sensing multispectral image is tested with real SPOT 5 imagery at 10m spatial resolution for an area in Bac Giang Province, Vietnam in order to evaluate the feasibility of application of this model to the real imagery. The soft-classified land cover proportions obtained using a fuzzy c-means classification are then used as input data for a Hopfield neural network (HNN) to predict the multispectral images at sub-pixel spatial resolution. The 10m SPOT multispectral image was improved to 5m, 3,3m and 2.5m and compared with SPOT Panchromatic image at 2.5m resolution for assessment.Visually, the resulted image is compared with a SPOT 5 panchromatic image acquired at the same time with the multispectral data. The predicted image is apparently sharper than the original coarse spatial resolution image.

  • It is required for multi-users to share massive mapping data effectively that distributed data model in the Client-Server environment is developed for the replication consistency. The existing model is not effective to the long transaction just like a mapping system, since it does not account lot consistency between GUI screen and database replications even though it emphasizes on the replication consistency. The performance of concurrency control is very important for those long transactions, especially the mapping systems. This model is to support consistency between GUI screen and replicas using display locks. It suggests consistency model improving process performance by modifying memory consistency model and optimistic concurrency control for mapping data's characteristics.

  • Objectives: This paper aims to compare the intervention development steps of the revised PRECEDE-PROCEED model and the Intervention Mapping model. Methods: Concepts and structure of the intervention development step of each model are reviewed with examples. Results: The revised PRECEDE-PROCEED model and the Intervention Mapping model share characteristics in intervention development in employing PRECEDE assessments, applying a social ecological framework and behavior theories for intervention building, emphasizing multi-interventions at multiple levels, and involving stakeholders and existing resources in intervention development. A detailed explanation of the intervention alignment and matrix building is provided with illustration of examples. Conclusion: Intervention development should not be done compartmentally but in line with other steps in a planning model to sustain the program logic. For successful application of planning models for intervention development, solid understanding of the models and behavior theories are required. Multisectoral collaboration is also critical for the successful application.

  • In order to develop an efficient algorithm for S-to-M mapping in CMCA, characteristics of CMCA mappings is studied and conceptual mapping procedure is physically described. Then, careful observations on the mapping procedure and experience reveal a simple algorithm of the S-to-M mapping. The algorithm is described and compared with other procedures for S-to-M mapping. It is found very efficient in terms of computational operations and processing time.

  • Computational procedure within the framework of return mapping technique has been presented to integrate the constitutive behavior of a concrete model. Developed by Ohtani and Chen, this concrete model is based on multiple hardening concept, and is rate-independent and associative. Consistent tangent operator suitable for finite element analysis is derived to preserve the rate of convergence. Accuracy of the integration technique is verified and compared with available experimental data. Computational efficiency is demonstrated by comparing with results based on elasto-plastic tangent.

  • Since XML (eXtensible Markup Language) was highlighted as an information interchange format, there is an increasing demand for incorporating XML with databases. Most of the approaches are focused on RDB (Relational Databases) because of legacy systems. But these approaches depend on the database system. Countless researches are being focused on DTD (Document Type Definition). However XML Schema is more comprehensive and efficient in many perspectives. We propose a meta-model for XML Schema that is independent of the database. There are three processes to build our meta-model: DOM (Document Object Model) tree analysis, object modeling and storing object into a fixed DB schema using model mapping approach. We propose four mapping rules for object modeling, which conform to the ODMG (Object Data Management Group) 3.0 standard. We expect that the model will be especially useful in building XML-based e-business applications.
