  • The aim of this paper is to design an adaptive speed control system of a marine diesel engine by fusion of hard computing based proportional integral derivative (PID) control and soft computing based fuzzy control methods. The model of a marine diesel engine is considered as a typical non oscillatory second order system. When its model and the actual marine diesel engine ate not matched, it is hard to control the speed of the marine diesel engine. Therefore, this paper proposes two methods in order to obtain the speed control characteristics of a marine diesel engine. One is an efficient method to determine the PID control parameters of the nominal model of a marine diesel engine. Second is a reference adaptive speed control method that uses a fuzzy controller and derivative operator for tracking the nominal model of the marine diesel engine. It was found that the proposed PID parameters adjustment method is better than the Ziegler & Nichols' method, and that a model reference adaptive control is superior to using only PID controller. The improved control method proposed here, could be applied to other systems when a model of a system does not match the actual system.

  • In this paper, the application of model reference adaptive control theory to the D.C motor speed control using the microprocessor is studied. It is shown that with the use of an adaptive control algorithm the error between output of the motor and the reference model, which is approximated to first order, can be conve to zero. By computer simulation and the practical implementation with the microprocessor M 6800, can be concluded that the adaptive control system adapts well to the rapid change of the load and reference inputs.

  • The purpose of this study is to design the adaptive speed control system of a marine diesel engine by combining the Model Matching Method and the Nominal Model Tracking Method. The authors proposed already a new method to determine efficiently the PID control Parameters by the Model Matching Method. typically taking a marine diesel engine as a non-oscillatory second-order system. But. actually it is very difficult to find out the exact model of a diesel engine. Therefore, when diesel engine model and actual diesel engine are unmatched as an another approach to promote the speed control characteristics of a marine diesel engine, this paper Proposes a Model Reference Adaptive Speed Control system of a diesel engine, in which PID control system for the model of a diesel engine is adopted as the nominal model and Fuzzy controller and derivative operator are adopted as the adaptive controller.

  • This paper presents a digitally speed sensorless control system for induction motor with direct torque control (DTC). The drive is based on Mode1 Reference Adaptive System (MRAS) using state observer as a reference model fat flux estimation. The system are closed loop stator flux and torque observer for wide speed range that inputs are currents and voltages sensing of motor terminal, model reference adaptive control (MRAS) with rotor flux linkages for the speed turning aignal at low speed range, two hysteresis controllers. The Proposed system is verified through simulation.

  • This paper proposes Model Reference Adaptive Fuzzy System(MRAFS) using Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC) as a adaptive laws in Model Reference Adaptive System(MRAS) in order to realize the speed-sensorless control of an induction motor. MRAFS estimates the speed of an induction motor with a rotor flux of a reference model and adjustable model in MRAS. Fuzzy logic controller reduces the error of the rotor flux between the reference model and the adjustable model using the error and the change of error as the input of FLC. The computer simulation is executed to verify the propriety and the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • This paper investigates the adaptive control of a fuzzy logic based speed and flux controller fur a vector controlled induction motor drive. A model reference adaptive scheme is proposed in which the adaptation mechanism is executed by fuzzy logic based on the error and change of error measured between the motor speed and output of a reference model. The control performance of the model reference adaptive control(MRAC) fuzzy controller is evaluated by simulation for various operating conditions. The validity of the Proposed MRAC fuzzy controller is confirmed by performance results for induction motor drive system.

  • A direct model reference adaptive control (DMRAC) is applied to the speed control of brushless do(BLDC) motor. The main objective is to achieve precise speed control in the face of varying motor parameters and load. The control is described as an outer loop speed control and an inner current loop control which has raster dynamics than the speed loop. The adaptive control is applied to the outer speed control loop. DMRAC is compared to an indirect adaptive controller(IMRAC) and a PI controller. Simulation results show that the two adaptive controllers give similar respose and are superior to the PI controller. However, the DMRAC algorithm is simpler to implement.

  • The model reference adaptive control algorithm (MRAC), which is one of the methods for controlling the speed of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), has been developed using the autoregressive (ARMAX) method. Applying this algorithm to a microprocessor which is used in driving PMSM with PI controller, it has been proved that the response speed of the reference input follows closely that of the reference model. It has also been proved by experiments that the quick speed response without over-shoot could be obtained for the motor system with variable parameters.

  • The purpose of this paper is to realize robust vector control of an induction motor without speed sensor. In order to do it, the speed of an induction motor is estimated using model reference adaptive system(MRAS) and two rotor flux observers which have robustness to the parameter variation are employed as the reference model and the adjustable model in MRAS speed estimator. The MRAS-based overall control scheme has been implemented on 2.2kW induction motor control system and it is verified that the proposed speed sensorless control scheme is more stable and robust than the conventional schemes.

  • This Paper presents a study of the performance of a DC servo motor with a model reference adaptive fuzzy speed controller (MRAFSC) in the presences of load disturbances. MRAFSC comprised inner feedback loop consisting of the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) and plant, and outer loop consisting of an adaptation mechanism which is designed for tuning a control rule of the FLC. Experimental results show the good performance in the DC servo motor system with the proposed adaptive fuzzy controller.
