Localized Induction-Heating Method by the Use of Selective Mold Material (재료의 선택적 사용에 의한 금형의 국부적 유도가열기법)

  • High-frequency induction is an efficient way to heat mold surface by electromagnetic induction in a non-contact procedure. Though the induction heating has an advantage in terms of its rapid-heating capacity on the mold surface, it still has a restriction on mold temperature control due to geometric restriction of an induction coil according to the mold shape. It has been recently applied to the injection molding of thin-walled parts or micro/nano structures. For localized induction heating, an injection mold composed of ferromagnetic material and paramagnetic material is used. The electromagnetic induction concentrates on the ferromagnetic material, from which we can selectively heat for the local mold elements. The present study proposed a localized induction heating method by means of selective use of mold material. The feasibility of the proposed heating method is investigated through the comparison of experimental observations according to the mold material.

  • The sheet metal forming proceccing is very important and indispensable in the automotive industry because the accuracy of prsee worked parts is directly related to the automotive quality. But when making mold it is difficult and expensive to modify mold. mold design technology is a critical technology in press plastic working. When design the mold there are lots of variables in press plastic working according to worked material, mold materials, conditions of heat treatment, clearance and so on. Abrasion of mold depends on these kind of conditions and sheared surface which is crucial for quality of product also depends on them. In this study, we conduct research on abrasion loss of mold according to 8, 10 and 12% of clearance for thickness of 1.0mm of worked material out of mold design variables of the products whose worked materials are high carbon steel and carbon tool steel by a practical experiment and perform a comparative evaluation of difference of abrasion loss mold with the alloy tool steel (STD11) and Tungsten Carbide (WC).

Investigation of Interface Reaction between TiAl Alloys and Mold Materials

  • This paper describes the investment casting of TiAl alloys. The effects of mold material and mold preheating temperature for the investment casting of TiAl on metal-mold interfacial reaction were investigated by means of optical micrography, hardness profiles and an electron probe microanalyzer. The mold materials examined were colloidal silica bonded ZrO₂, ZrSiO₄, A1₂O₃and CaO stabilized ZrO₂. When compared with conventional titanium a1loy, the high aluminum concentration of TiAl alloys helps to lower their reactivity in the molten state. The A1₂O₃mold is a promising mold material for the investment casting of TiAl in terms of the thermal stability, formability and cost. Special attention need to be paid to thermal stability and mold preheating when developing the investment calling of TiAl alloys.

  • A mold of free-form concrete segment can be used only one time. Thus, the construction duration and cost are increased. The materials of the mold such as wood and metal have limitations due to the implementation and reuse. The review of the material of the mold for free-form concrete segment is needed to reduce duration and production cost. Phase change material can be used both to implement free-shape by heating and to produce mold after cooling. After using Phase change material can be re-used to mold by heating. The scope of this study is many kind of phase change materials for molding. The aim of this study is to analyze the phase change materials for production of changable mold for free-form concrete segment. In this study, the paraffin wax that is melted at 64℃ was selected by considering both the energy efficiency and the weather of Korea.

  • In recent years, technology of press plastic working having made remarkable progress. We can say this because it facilitates mass production and have superior performances in machining speed and equivalency of quality than other processing methods. In characteristics of press plastic working, mold manufacturing according to characteristics of each product should be preceded before processing and it has a great influence on machining speed and quality of products and etc according to manufacturing method. Therefore, mold design technology is a critical technology in press plastic working. It has been recently applied to the injection molding of thin-walled parts or micro/nano structures. Though the induction heating has an advantage in terms of its rapid-heating capacity on the mold surface, it still has difficulty in efficient mold temperature control due to the restriction of an induction coil design suitable for the given mold shape. The present study proposed a localized mold heating method by means of selective use of mold material. For localized induction heating, an injection mold composed of ferromagnetic material and paramagnetic material is used. The electromagnetic induction concentrates on the ferromagnetic material, from which we can selectively heat for the local mold elements. The feasibility of the proposed heating method is investigated through an experimental measurement in terms of the heating efficiency on the localized mold surface.

  • In recent years, the production value of Taiwanese mold and die industries have reached to a high peak in 1998, in amount of NT 604 hundred million dollars. But in recent years production value are going down year by year, till year of 2001 the production value have down to NT 394 hundred million dollars. Its main reason might be the major product were following in medium and low price category, the high accuracy and high cost mold and die still rely on import aboard. Therefore how to made the related technical database system on various field to provide the industry user to promote industries competition ability in mold and die is really urgent matter at this moment. In this research, we will offer how to apply the Visual Basic program language to edit a set of more perfect database system of mold and die material selection. At the present time, we have constructed complete Knowledge-Base-System of intelligence for forging mold and die material, the most related data from the existed data, the others are through our additional experimental results. By using this system by the user can got the related and need data easily, we hope it will reduce designing time and cost for mold and die.

  • Sheet Metal Forming by Press Forming Process takes a lot of time and cost from mold design to manufacturing. Therefore, all of die-makers are continuously conducting research to reduce the number of mold processes or the size of blanks to reduce costs. In the case of Forming complex shapes such as automobile component, wrinkles and cracks occur, so draw beads are used. Draw beads play an important role in suppressing the inflow of materials and minimizing the size of blanks. Factors that affect material flow include draw bead, blank holding pressure, lubricant, and surface roughness of punch and die. Most of the factors affect friction. In this study, after classifying circular beads and rectangular beads in cylindrical drawing molds using the AutoForm analysis program, the factors affecting the material inflow were considered.

  • As plastic injection mold parts is suitable system mass production making mold. So thick steering wheel parts is desirable to carry out gas injection molding. Gas injection mold is skill to inject nitrogen gas postfilling melting raw material into mold. Gas injection mold have many advantage like retrenchment of material cost, upgrading the guality. etc. It was decided gate position to minimize warpage of parts analysis injection mold process using mold flow software and incase doing gas injection mold using normal p.p material. it occur big warpage. so it is object minimizing warpage of injection parts to change p.p material containing mineral 18% and removing fingering phenomenon trouble as changing gate position. Also in case carrying out gas injection mold, I did comparison and analysis to grasp shape flow in gas setting a standard gate after flowing in raw material. Through this study, I found out changing of thickness by parts shape and it can occur warpage of parts by plastic material even though it carry out gas injection mold and it had a direct influence on trouble of parts by gate position.

Fabrication of Diffraction Grating Mold Using Dot Pattern (도트 패턴을 이용한 회절 격자 금형 제작)

  • Diffraction grating is the optical device which has periodic pattern. Decorative logotypes is the one of application of diffraction grating. In this paper diffraction grating for decorative logotype is fabricated by dot pattern in stead of line pattern. A metallic mold for diffraction gratings is fabricated with a mode-locked 12 ps Nd:YVO4 laser. Laser pulses with a wavelength of 355nm are irradiated on the surface of NOK 80, a mold material, to generate dot patterns. In order to minimize the dot diameter, laser power is set just above the ablation threshold of NOK 80. Results show that the spectrum from the fabricated mold is good enough for some industrial application
