  • According to ow previous study, we confirmed That the Petrov-Galerkin natural element method(PG-NEM) completely resolves the numerical integration inaccuracy in the conventional Bubnov-Galerkin natural element method(BG-NEM). This paper is an extension of PG-NEM to two-dimensional geometrically nonlinear problem. For the analysis, a linearized total Lagrangian formulation is approximated with the PS-NEM. At every load step, the grid points ate updated and the shape functions are reproduced from the relocated nodal distribution. This process enables the PG-NEM to provide more accurate and robust approximations. The representative numerical experiments performed by the test Fortran program, and the numerical results confirmed that the PG-NEM effectively and accurately approximates The large deformation problem.

  • Mutually-actuated-nano-electromechanical (MA-NEM) memory switches are proposed for scalability improvement. While conventional NEM memory switches have fixed electrode lines, the proposed MA-NEM memory switches have mutually-actuated cantilever-like electrode lines. Thus, MA-NEM memory switches show smaller deformations of beams in switching. This unique feature of MA-NEM memory switches allows aggressive reduction of the beam length while maintaining nonvolatile property. Also, the scalability of MA-NEM memory switches is confirmed by using finite-element (FE) simulations. MA-NEM memory switches can be promising solutions for reconfigurable logic (RL) circuits.

  • Studies have been conducted using isolated surviving skin of Rana temporalia in an attempt to evaluate the effect of N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) on the epithelial $Na^+$ transport. Active transport of $Na^+$ across the skin was estimated by measuring short circuit current (SCC). NEM administered to the outside surface of the skin in concentration of $0.5{\times}10^{-4}-2.5{\times}10^{-4}M$ induced $20{\sim}40%$ increase during the first 30 mintues, followed by a gradual reduction in SCC. With NEM above $4{\times}10^{-4}M$, SCC was inhibited from the beginning. Qualitatively similar results were obtained when NEM was added to the inside bathing medium. However, the concentration of NEM for a similar effect was much higher with the drug in the inside bathing medium than in the outside bathing medium. The oxygen consumption of the skin was inhibited by NEM of above $10^{-4}M$, the effect being of approximately the same magnitude as that on SCC. The activity of $Na^+-K^+$ ATPase of the skin was not inhibited by NEM below $10^{-3}M$, but it was dramatically reduced with $1.2{\times}M$ NEM. The effects of NEM $(10^{-4}M)$ on the SCC and oxygen consumption could be eliminated by adding cysteine $(10^{-4}-10^{-3}M)$ in the medium, indicating that the SH group is involved in the action of NEM in the frog skin. On the basis of these results, the mode of action of NEM on the $Na^+$ transport across the frog skin was discussed.

  • A nano-electro-mechanical (NEM) memory simulator has been developed by using Matlab. The simulator can be used for the prediction of hysterisis curves, applied forces, steady- or transient-state behavior, program/erase energy consumption and potential energy. Predicting NEM memory behavior by simple user interface, the simulator will make the design of NEM memory cells simpler.

  • A Jacobian-Free Newton Krylov Two-Nodal Coarse Mesh Finite Difference algorithm based on Nodal Expansion Method (NEM_TNCMFD_JFNK) is successfully developed and proposed to solve the three-dimensional (3D) and multi-group reactor physics models. In the NEM_TNCMFD_JFNK method, the efficient JFNK method with the Modified Incomplete LU (MILU) preconditioner is integrated and applied into the discrete systems of the NEM-based two-node CMFD method by constructing the residual functions of only the nodal average fluxes and the eigenvalue. All the nonlinear corrective nodal coupling coefficients are updated on the basis of two-nodal NEM formulation including the discontinuity factor in every few newton steps. All the expansion coefficients and interface currents of the two-node NEM need not be chosen as the solution variables to evaluate the residual functions of the NEM_TNCMFD_JFNK method, therefore, the NEM_TNCMFD_JFNK method can greatly reduce the number of solution variables and the computational cost compared with the JFNK based on the conventional NEM. Finally the NEM_TNCMFD_JFNK code is developed and then analyzed by simulating the representative PWR MOX/UO2 core benchmark, the popular NEACRP 3D core benchmark and the complicated full-core pin-by-pin homogenous core model. Numerical solutions show that the proposed NEM_TNCMFD_JFNK method with the MILU preconditioner has the good numerical accuracy and can obtain higher computational efficiency than the NEM-based two-node CMFD algorithm with the power method in the outer iteration and the Krylov method using the MILU preconditioner in the inner iteration, which indicates the NEM_TNCMFD_JFNK method can serve as a potential and efficient numerical tool for reactor neutron diffusion analysis module in the JFNK-based multiphysics coupling application.

  • In this paper, a new meshfree technique which improves the numerical integration accuracy is introduced. This new method called thc Petrov-Galerkin natural clement method(PG-NEM) by authors is based on the Voronoi diagram and the Delaunay triangulation which is based on the same concept used lot conventional natural clement method called the Bubnov-Galerkin natural element method(BG-NEM). But, unlike the BG-NEM, the test basis function is differently chosen, based on the concept of Petrov-Galerkin, such that its support coincides exactly with a regular integration region in background mesh. Therefore, it is expected that the proposed technique ensures the remarkably improved numerical integration accuracy in comparison with the BG-NEM.

  • Natural element method (NEM) is quick in research activities by natural sciences and mechanical engineering fields, and from which good results are watched by various engineering fields and applied too. However no paper or research about the applied case has announced yet. Therefore on this paper, I will rediscover an optimum design and apply NEM into other fields with NEM for existing optimum design of mainly using FEM. NEM and genetic algorithm (GA) are applied to optimize a membrane with a center hole. The optimal design obtained by NEM is compared to the counterpart obtained by the finite element method (FEM). Result by NEM is found to be better than the result by FEM. NEM can be a feasible analysis tool in design optimization.

  • For some low-frequency applications such as power-related circuits, NEM relays have been known to show better performance than MOSFETs. For example, in a step-down charge pump circuit, the NEM relays showed much smaller layout area and better energy efficiency than MOSFETs. However, severe process variations of NEM relays hinder them from being widely used in various low-frequency applications. To mitigate the process-variation problems of NEM relays, in this paper, a new NEM-relay charge pump circuit with the self-adjustment is proposed. By self-adjusting a pulse amplitude voltage according to process variations, the power consumption can be saved by 4.6%, compared to the conventional scheme without the self-adjustment. This power saving can also be helpful in improving the power efficiency of the proposed scheme. From the circuit simulation of NEM-relay charge pump circuit, the efficiency of the proposed scheme is improved better by 4.1% than the conventional.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of nanoemulsion (NEM) on the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of pork patty to improve texture for elderly members of the population. Hence, we prepared pork patties supplemented with different of liquid materials: water; oil and water; oil, water, and surfactants; and nanoemulsion. The emulsion itself was characterized and the physicochemical properties of the pork patties, including pH, water content, cooking loss, thawing loss, liquid holding capacity, color, and texture, were analyzed. The size of NEM was 165.70±9.32 nm and NEM had high ζ-potential value indicating that it is stable. NEM patties had the lowest cooking and thawing losses, and the highest liquid retention, all of which affected the tenderness of the patties. Color of the patty was also affected by the addition of NEM. The highest lightness and yellowness and the lowest redness were observed (p<0.05). NEM patties had the lowest values for all texture attributes indicating improved tenderness. Our results demonstrate that NEM has positive effects on pork patties and can help to tenderize food products designed for the elderly. With further study, NEM could be a candidate tenderization agent in the meat industry.

  • Aspartase from Hafnia alvei was inactivated by N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and 5,5' -Dithiobis-(2-znitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB) following pseudo-first order kinetics. Their apparent reaction orders were 0.83 and 0.50 for NEM and DTNB modifications, respectively, indicating that inactivation was due to a sulfhydryl group in the active site of aspartase and participation of the sulfhydryl group in an essential step in the catalytic reaction. When aspartase was modified by DTNB, the enzyme activity was restored by dithiothreitol treatment, indicating that cysteine residuetsl islarel possibly at or near the active site. The pH-dependence of the inactivation rate by NEM suggested that an amino acid residue having pK value of 8.3 was involved in the inactivation. When aspartase was incubated with NEM and L-aspartate together, L-aspartate markedly protected the enzyme from inactivation by NEM, but the other reagents used did not.
