SICI(Serial Item and Contribution Identifier) is intended primarily for use by those involved in the use or management of serial titles and their contributions. And SICI is a standard that is developed for interoperability and electronic data exchange because of increasing need of the unique resource identifier. This paper introduces metadata standard ANSI/NISO Z39.56 that relates serials management. And it examines applications and implementations of Z39.56 toward serials management.

In this paper, typical types of digital format were defined and digital format selection guidelines of US's NISO(National Information Standards Organization) and LC(Library of Congress) and Denmark's The State and University Library and the Royal Library were introduced. Five sustainability factors and quality and functionality factors were raised through analysing the three sample guidelines. The sustainability factors include descriptive, independency, consistency, widely adopted, and quality. Thus, digital format selection strategies for a library were developed.

In this study, major steps of the research data management plan were derived through the research data management guidelines of major countries (NISO DMP in the US, UK DMP in UK archives, etc.). The results obtained are support for research data policy & planning, research data technical support, research data sharing support, research data legal mechanism support, and research data education support. In this study, we analyzed seven cases of data sharing among 7 domestic and foreign biotechnology. Shared use case countries are limited to the United Kingdom and the United States, which play a leading role in the management of research data. In Korea, shared cases were analyzed for the Korean Bio Information Center and related systems, which is a research and performance management and distribution agency designated by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

인터넷이 확산되고 이를 통해 이용가능한 정보자원이 급증함에 따라 접근 및 검색을 용이하게 할 식별체계의 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 디지털콘텐츠식별자(Digital Object Identifier, DOI)는 새로운 식별체계로서 기존의 식별체계가 안고 있는 단점을 극복해 줄 것으로 기대된다. 본 연구는 기존 정보자원 식별체계의 구문구조를 대략적으로 살펴보고 현재 미국 ANSI/NISO 표준 (z39.84-2000)으로 제정된 DOI의 구문구조 표준을 토대로 국내 표준을 제안하기 위한 것이다.

Despite a long tradition and rich discussion of thesaurus construction, more research is needed to make standards for thesaurus construction applicable to practice. Recently, in order to reflect changing information technology environment, and provide consistency of terms and abbreviations of standards, ISO committee has been planning to publish ISO 25964. Therefore, the study introduces ISO 25964, reveals main focal points of ISO 25964, and finally discusses suggestions to improve ISO 25964. The study employs qualitative content analysis of ISO 25964, ISO 2788: 1986, and ANSI/NISO Z39.19 - 2005.

The purpose of this study is to present solutions to expanding added-term relations which will fit new information retrieval environment. This report reviews standards for ISO 2788 and ANSI/NISO Z 39.19, and compares and analyzes 20 thesaurus added-term relations currently used to find out problems and limitations. Based on findings of the study, this report suggests how to expand thesaurus added-term relations to accomodate changes in information retrieval environment. In order to solve those problems, this report presents solutions to expanding added-term relationships as follows: First, definition was separated from scope note and scope note is categorized by type. Second, principles for the use of qualifiers are presented. Third, principles for expanding of descriptor term information are presented.

What is introduced in this paper is current and important issues for efficient interoperability between different metadata such as Dublin Cere, MARC 21, and INDECS. Five major principles have been suggested here for effective interoperability between metadata based on the contents of crosswalking in White Paper of NISO. An INDECS based metadata framework, ONIX is compared to MARC and Dublin Core.

Library statistics is used for internal decisions to know and assess library operations or for external justifications to show of how libraries meet users' needs and contribute to the organization. It is included same frameworks with social indicators and cultural indicators in national level. In this basis, national library statistics, they are ANSI/NISO Z39.7, Canada's Core library statistics, LIST of united Kingdom, are examined and Delphi method is used for new scheme of korean library statistics. As the results, it is suggested that new korean framework of library statistics is composed of 7 parts with 31 items. There are 6 parts with 21 items of social indicators or cultural indicators related to library items as well.

As a new practical model of Korean Library statistics, It suggests 6 parts, fifty-four items for 4 types of libraries. In comparison with last version, 'library use and users', 'electronic services' parts are increased which are occupied as more than hair of the whole statistical items. Budget parts are increased also. The new model which is developed based on the international standards like ISO2789 and NISO/ANSI Z39.7 is advised by professionals in the fields.

The purpose of this study is to design hypertext-based linear displays for an online thesaurus in librarianship and information science with the aid of ISO and ANSI/NISO thesaurus standards. This study starts with the assumptions that hypertext-based online thesauri would provide a convenient and useful subject retrieval tool to both indexers and searchers of information and become starting point for the study of thesauri searching patterns, which were difficult with printed thesauri. For this study, thesaurus of librarianship and information science was stored in MS ACCESS 97 as a relational database and, for the conjunction of a relational database with World Wide Web, technics of ASP(Active Server Pages) were applied under Windows NT operation.
