  • Strain NR $15-1^T$ isolated from traditional Korean Nuruk is described as a new species and named as Aspergillus coreanus NR $15-1^T$ sp. novo Strain NR $15-1^T$ grew rapidly to form yellow-green colonies whose surfaces were velvety on Czapek solution agar. Conidial heads were yellow to light and elliptical, whereas the conidiophore was colorless and typically long. In addition, vesicles were from flask-shaped to globose, and sterigmata are uniseriate. Conidia were spherical and deep yellow-green, and their surfaces were lightly roughened. The G+C content of strain NR $15-1^T$ was 51 mol% and strain NR $15-1^T$contained a dihydrogenated ubiquinone with Q9 (94.9%) as a major quinone. The nucleotide sequences of strain NR $15-1^T$ in the two Internal Transcribed Spacers (ITS 1 and 2) and 5.8S rDNA showed highest similarity when compared with that of A. tubingensis and A. phoenicis NRRL $365^T$. However, based on morphological and chemotaxonomic characteristics, this strain was different from A. tubingensis and A. phoenicis NRRL $365^T$. On the basis of the data presented, it is proposed that strain NR $15-1^T$ should be placed in the genus Aspergillus as a new species, Aspergillus coreanus sp. novo Therefore, the type strain of the new species is strain NR $15-1^T$ (=KCTC 18075P^T,=KCCM 80006^T$.

  • In this study, the thermal shrinkage and expansion stresses of filled NR and SBR vulcanizates were measured to investigate the dimensional stability at an elevated temperature. When a rubber sample was held at constant pre-strain, a thermal stress developed upon heating due to the entropic consideration. The peak shrinkage stress of carbon black or silica filled NR decreased with increasing filler content. In SBR compounds, however, the peak shrinkage stress of SBR with 30 phr filler content was higher than that of unfilled compounds. The expansion stress of carbon black filled NR was changed little, but that of filled SBR increased with increasing the filler content. The peak expansion stress of silica filled NR and SBR vulcanizates increased with increasing silica content.

  • The cure, viscoelastic and mechanical characteristics of organoclay filled NR/BR blends were studied and compared with the properties of carbon black and silica filled NR/BR blends. The nanocomposites with extensive exfoliation state can be fabricated by a solution mixing method. In the composites, the amount of filler content was fixed to 10 phr. Degree of intercalation and exfoliation was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). XRD results indicated exfoliation of the silicate layers into the rubber matrix. While the degree or intercalation and exfoliation is lowered by the conventional mixing method, extensive exfoliation can be obtained by the solution mixing method. It was found that the clay filled NR/BR compound showed better viscoelastic (tan ${\delta}$) and mechanical properties than the carbon black or silica filled NR/BR compounds.

  • Most digital cameras apply a Charge Coupled Device(CCD) Sensor or a Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor(COMS) Sensor. And the images captured these sensors include unwanted noises. In this paper, we proposed a method of the Noise Reduction(NR) about noise reduction or recovery in the image. The proposed NR method is related to Bandwidth of the Low Pass Filter(LPF). For improvement of NR, we were changing the filter coefficient of the LPF. The results of simulations with various filter coefficients, [1 2 1] in the LPF and [-1 2 -1] in the High Pass Filter(HPF) have ideal frequency bandwidth and high performance. We proposed a filter coefficient [1 2 1] and [-1 2 -1] in the LPF and the HPF respectively.

  • Tensile properties including Young's modulus and tear strength were measured for four different rubber compounds; natural rubber(NR), styrene-butadiene copolymer(SBR), ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM), and brominated isobutylene-p-methyl-styrene copolymer(BIMS) as a function of temperature and degree of cure. To see the effect of over cure, a measurement was made of the tensile strength and swelling behavior of the over-cured rubber compounds. Young's modulus, E, was found to have linear dependency on the degree of cure for all rubber compounds. EPDM and BIMS showed the highest and lowest slopes, respectively. The slope of NR and SBR lay between EPDM and BIMS. Tear strength, Gc, decreased in the order of NR>BIMS>SBR>EPDM. As the cure time was extended the degree of cure of NR and SBR decreased, while that of BIMS increased. EPDM showed little change in the degree of cure.

  • The physical properties of NR-SBR and NR-BR blends were studied. 1. In blending, tensile strength decreased with increase in synthetic rubber contents. It was most effective when the ratio of NR/Syn. R is 75/25. 2. Tensile strength decreased with order of NR, SBR and BR and modulus after aging is proportional of synthetic rubber contents. 3. Elongation is less influenced by synthetic rubber ratio that on the other hand, the decrease of elongation is proportional to synthetic rubber contents after aging. 4. Hardness decreased with increase in the synthetic rubber contents and on the other hand, the hardness increased after aging.

  • Hydrogenations of BR and NR performed by a noncatalytic method using p-toluenesulphonylhydrazide were carried out by reactive processing. The experimental procedures for carrying out the reaction were established. Two steps comprising premixing of the rubber with TSH followed by hydrogenation in compression mould were proved to be suitable. The percentages of hydrogenation attained by reactive processing were higher than those of the reaction carried out in solution at the same [TSH]/[C=C] ratio, reaction temperature and time. In-creasing the reaction temperature and reaction time resulted in increases of the percentage of hydrogenation. For BR, the maximum percentage of hydrogenation obtained was 36% at [TSH]/[C=C]=1/1.5. For NR, the highest percentage of hydrogenation was 34% at [TSH]/[C=C]=1/1.5. Cis-trans isomerisation was also observed to occur during hydrogenation of both BR and NR. Thermal stabilities of the hydrogenated BR and NR were shown to improve over those or the unhydrogenated counterparts.

  • Crosslink is the most important chemistry in a rubber vulcanizate. Degree and type of crosslinks of the vulcanizate determine its physical properties. Change of crosslink density and deformation of a rubber vulcanizate by thermal aging were studied using natural rubber (NR) vulcanizates with various cure systems (conventional, semi-EV, and EV) and different cure times (under-, optimum-, and overture). All the NR vulcanizates were deformed by the thermal aging at 60-100 $^{\circ}C.$ The higher the aging temperature is, the more degree of the deformation is. The undercured NR vulcanizates after the thermal aging were deformed more than the optimumand overcured ones. The NR vulcanizates with the EV cure system were less deformed than those with the conventional and semi-EV cure systems. The deformation of the NR vulcanizates was found to be due to change of the crosslink density of the vulcanizates. The crosslink densities of all the vulcanizates after the extraction of organic materials were also changed by the thermal ging. The sources to change the crosslink densities of the vulcanizates by the thermal aging were found to be dissociation of the existing sulfur crosslink and the formation of new crosslinks by free sulfur, reaction products of curing agents, and pendent sulfide groups.

  • The effects of zinc surfactant (ZB) on the bis(triethoxysilylpropyl)disulfide (TESPD)-silica mixture in natural rubber (NR) and solution butadiene-co-styrene rubber(S-SBR) were compared with respect to their rheological property, processability, physical properties, and silica dispersion. In the NR compound, addition of the ZB increased the reversion resistance time (T-2), the tensile modulus, and the BO time; however, lowered the viscosity, the HBU, and tans values. In the S-SBR copound, addition of the ZB increased the $tan{\delta}$ values while lowered the T-2, the tensile modulus the BO time, the viscosity, and the HBU of the compound. In the NR compounds, addition of the ZB significantly increased the processability and mechanical property. However, in the S-SBR compounds, it improved the processability the mechanical property was not improved.
