  • The present invention relates to a absorption rotor for removed VOC(volatile organic compound) and humidity in semiconductor clean room system. A absorption rotor medium is made by NaX zeolite and TS-1 zeolite formed on a honeycomb matrix of ceramic papers. The crystallization of NaX zeolite was hydrothermal reaction, and NaX zeolite crystals of a uniform particle size of 5$\mu$m were synthesized that NaX zeolite seed crystals (2~3$\mu$m) added in a batch composition at levels of 3~15 wt$\%$. The seeding resulted in an increase in the fraction of large crystals compared with unseeded batches and successfully led to a uniform NaX zeolite crystal. The microporous zeolite-type titanosilicate(TS-1) was synthesized by different of the reactant solution pH. The pH range of reactant solution has been changed from 10.0 to 11.5 TS-1 zeolite (ETS-10), having a large pore(8~10 $\AA$), was synthesized at 10.4 of pH, since TS-1 zeolite (ETS-4), having a small pore(3~5$\AA$), was synthesized at 11.5 of pH.

  • Effect of Na2O/SiO2 molar ratio, calcining temperature and addition of NaCl were investigated on the hydrothermal formation of X-type zeolite from the natural mordenite, which is a kind of rock deposited abundantly in kuryong po. Pulverized mordenite was first mixed with NaOH or NaOH-NaCl solution, and crystallized under hydrothermal condition at 90~10$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs. Optimum condition for synthesis of the X-type zeolite were \circled1 the ratio Na2O/SiO2, NaCl/Al2O3 and H2O/Na2O:0.68, 11.4 and 40, respectively, \circled2 calcining temperature of starting materials: 90$0^{\circ}C$, \circled3 aging time: 48 hrs. and \circled4 crystallization temperature: 10$0^{\circ}C$. The yield of X-type zeolite under the optimum condition was about 55~60%, and the major crystallized X-type zeolite was faujasite phase. Zeolite of then type X was crystallized when NaCl was added to treating solution with in the limit 14.25 of NaCl/Al2O3 molar ratio. As the calcination temperature (from 50$0^{\circ}C$ to 95$0^{\circ}C$) of starting materials increases, yield of zeolite x increase.

  • This study was conducted to develop n convenient and efficient granular type absorbent with high CEC from powdery zeolite, which is a waste produced while crushing the natural zeolite of Korea to get a particular particle size. The change of mineralogical characteristics during hydrothermal alternation of natural zeolite to Na-P zeolite in alkaline solution at various reaction times was determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and total elemental analysis. The columnar aggregate of Na-P Zeolite was produced by calcinating the natural zeolite-charcoal extrudates of about 3 mm diameter. In 24 hours reaction, clinoptillonite, mordenite and feldspar in natural zeolite were disappeared by 3 N NaOH treatment, while Na-P Zeolite with spherical granular structure was newly detected by XRD. As increasing reaction time, Si/Al ratio in remaining solution was deceased. The CEC of the synthesized material increased more than 2 times compared with that of natural zeolite, although the diameter of Na-P zeolite were rather increased.

  • The honeycomb adsorbents and adsorption process for carbon dioxide removal from fuel gas were investigated. Zeolite paper was made with Na-X zeolite powder and ceramic fiber as raw materials. $Li^+$, $Ca^{2+}$ or $K^+$ ion exchanges for Na-X zeolite and additional Na-X coating were performed on zeolite paper for increasing the carbon dioxide adsorption capacity, after that the adsorption characteristics of the samples were analyzed. Among the ion exchanged samples, $Li^+$ ion exchanged zeolite paper was most promising but its carbon dioxide adsorption capacity was less than expected for process application. However, additional Na-X coating was found to be an effective method for increasing the carbon dioxide adsorption capacity of the zeolite paper for process application. The carbon dioxide breakthrough test of the honeycomb adsorbent prepared with the zeolite paper was studied, and fuel gas treatment capacity was calculated when the honeycomb adsorbent was used in the rotary adsorption process.

  • A high quality Na-X zeolite membrane was synthesized on a seeded ${\alpha}-alumina$ disc by the secondary growth method. Structural characterization was done by X-ray spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM and AFM imaging. The performance evaluation of the membrane was firstly tested in separation of glucose/water solutions by pervaporation process. There was obtained a separation factor $182.7{\pm}8.8$, while the flux through the membrane was $3.6{\pm}0.3kg\;m^{-2}\;h^{-1}$. The zeolite membrane was then used for desalination of aqueous solutions consisting of $Na^+$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Cs^+$ and $Sr^{2+}$ because of the importance of these ions in water and wastewater treatments. The effects of some parameters such as temperature and solution concentration on the desalination process were studied for investigating of diffusion/adsorption mechanism in membrane separation. Finally, high water fluxes ranged from 2 up to $9kg\;m^{-2}\;h^{-1}$ were obtained and the rejection factors were resulted more than 95% for $Na^+$ and $Ca^{2+}$ and near to 99% for $Cs^+$ and $Sr^{2+}$. Based on the results, fluxes were significantly improved due to convenient passage of water molecules from large pores of NaX, while the fouling was declining dramatically. Based on the results, NaX zeolite can efficiently use for the removal of different cations from wastewaters.

  • Zeolite X with Si/Al molar ratio = 1.08~1.20 was produced using a hydrothermal synthesis method. Ion-exchanged zeolite X samples were then prepared by using metal nitrate solutions containing $Mg^{2+}$ or $Cu^{2+}$. For all zeolite X samples, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) were used to identify the change in crystal structure. The analysis of ammonia adsorption capability of zeolite X samples was conducted through the ammonia temperature-programmed desorption ($NH_3$-TPD) method. From XRD results, the prepared zeolite X samples maintained the Faujasite (FAU) structure regardless of cation contents in zeolite X, but the crystallinity of zeolite X containing $Mg^{2+}$ and $Cu^{2+}$ cations decreased. The distribution of cation contents in zeolite X was identified via EDS analysis. $NH_3$-TPD analysis showed that the $NH_3$ adsorption capacity of $Mg^{2+}$- and $Cu^{2+}$-zeolite X were 1.76 mmol/g and 2.35 mmol/g, respectively while the $Na^+$-zeolite X was 3.52 mmol/g ($NH_3/catalyst$). $Na^+$-zeolite X can thus be utilized as an adsorbent for the removal of ammonia in future.

  • The zeolite X was prepared from the Korean natural clinoptilolite, which contains some mordenite. Thermal treatment removed the clinoptilolite structure from the ore remaining mordenite. The natural clinoptilolites dealuminated with 2N-8N HCI solution and/or thermal treatment were mixed with NaCl, $NaAlO_2$ and NaOH, and reacted to zeolites X at $95^{\circ}C$ for 12~36 hrs. Maximum yield of NaX was obtained for the reactant mixture of 25 gr of natural zeolite acidtreated with 8 N HCI, together with 3.5g NaCl, 8g $NaAlO_2$ and 50 ml of 6N NaOH at $95^{\circ}C$, for 24 hrs.

  • Zeolite membranes on various supports such as filter paper, cotton fiber, and glass fiber filter were prepared by secondary growth hydrothermal synthesis. First, zeolite NaA (${\approx}0.5{\mu}m$) and silicalite-1 (${\approx}0.2{\mu}m$) crystals were synthesized as zeolite seed crystals, and they were attached to the surfaces of the supports via chemical bonding. Zeolite NaA or silicalite-1 membranes could be synthesized on the supports coated with the seed crystals. The prepared zeolite membranes were observed by scanning electron microscope and analyzed by X-ray diffraction.
