  • In this study, topographic change analysis was performed on the Nak-dong River estuary area. The factors affecting the changes in the bathymetry of the Nak-dong River estuary were analyzed using data from the discharge, suspended sediments, and rainfall of the Nak-dong River barrier as analysis data. As a result, erosion and sedimentation are judged to appear repeatedly due to complex effects such as discharge of the estuary barrier of the Nak-dong River and invasion of the open sea waves, and it is judged that there is no one-sided tendency. However, as a result of checking the data in the second half of 2020, it was possible to confirm a large amount of erosion, which is different from the past data. It is clear that this is a result beyond the trend of erosion in the first half and sedimentation in the second half. In the summer of 2020, the rainy season lasted for more than a month and torrential rains occurred, which seems to be due to about three times higher rainfall than other periods, and erosion is believed to have occurred as the discharge increased rapidly compared to the time deposited by river water outflow. In addition, compared to other times, the influence of many typhoons in the summer of 2020 is believed to have affected the topographical change at the mouth of the Nak-dong River.

  • Because depth of deposit is deeper as well as compressibility is very larger than the other regions in Korea, behaviour of settlement at Nak-Dong river estuarine causes hot issue at ground improvement. Defined properties for design differ from measurement. Therefore it affects cost of construction. This study presents design standard to engineers as it defined properties of compressibility at Jangyu Area of Nak-Dong river estuarine. To search value of representation for region, back analysis was performed using the measurement. To verify that, the measurement of recently designed site was confirmed, and the cost of construction with properties of consolidation was calculated.

  • Korean funeral customs are an important part of the mourning process in Korea. A survey was conducted in the southern part by the Nak-dong river, centered around the city of Busan to examine Korean funeral rites. This study was conducted with survey research. The target population included 234 teachers and experienced the death of a family member within the last three years. Results showed that they presented their condolences 5 to 6 times on average per year. Funeral rites were performed usually at a hospital funeral hall. The preference of burial to cremation was about the same. According to the survey, funeral expenses averaged 9,570,000 won and donations received for funeral expenses, 12,630,000 won. Problems the respondents expressed about the process included large funeral expenses, the decision whether to bury or cremate, and fatigue from staying up all night. When classified according to the demographic characteristics, there were significant differences in the variables. Frequency of attending funerals depended on gender, age, and health status. Condolence style depended on religion. The type of funeral (burial or cremation) depended on family income. The type of reception depended on gender. Funeral expenses depended on the age Second, in the process of preparing for a family member's death, they thought it was important to prepare a funeral ceremony portrait of the deceased and a scroll by themselves, and the preparation

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the source(s) and distribution of boron in Nak-dong River. In the year of 2002, the boron has been adopted as a toxic constituent for Korean drinking water standard. In this study, the analytical samples were collected at 11 stations in March, June, September and December 2002. These samples were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma-mass (ICP-MS) method. The recovery, relative standard deviation and method detection limit of the ICP-MS method for boron was $89{\sim}111.3%$, $2.21{\sim}3.81%$ and $5{\mu}g/L$, respectively. The distribution of boron was ranged $65{\sim}155{\mu}g/L$ in March, $26{\sim}125{\mu}g/L$ in June, $22{\sim}140{\mu}g/L$ in September and $50{\sim}162{\mu}g/L$ in December. The higher levels of boron were found at Kum-ho river nearby the industrial complex, which seemed to be greatly affected by domestic sewages and wastewater from the upper streams. Thus, the concentration of boron and that of other components showed strong statistical correlation in this area. In the Nak-dong River, industrial wastewater and domestic sewages is thought to be the sources of boron.

  • In this study the releasing of nutrients from sediments of Nak-dong River were investigated. We perfomed lab-scale simulation experiments using field sediment and ware. Nutrients, orgarni matter, particle size of the sediments and nutrients of released water were analyzed. Analyzed results of the sediments, mainly composed of mS(muddy Sand) sedimentary facies and IL were 2.46~6.83%, T-N were 1.189~2.492 mg/kg, and T-P were 333~726 mg/kg in the study area. Analyzed results of the nutrients of released water, pH and TOC were each 7.8~9.2% and 31.7~40.8% decreased after 20 days. T-N increased steadily, and NH3-N increased steadily then decreased, at this time NO3-N increase. Also NH3-N increased steadily, then decreased at this time. Furthermore release of phosphorus were mostly decreased.

  • It was known that the aging effect of sands is insignificant in comparison with clays, and hence the study on this effect had seldom been performed prior to the early 1980s. However, field tests for this effect have been actively carried out since it was investigated that penetration resistance of reformed sands increased with the lapse of time. Recently, the aging effect of sands has also been examined in laboratory testings. In this study, undrained static triaxial tests were performed to evaluate the effect on the Nak-dong River sands, with different .elative densities $(D_r)$, consolidation stress ratios $(K_c)$, and consolidation times. As a result of the tests, it was proved that the undrained cyclic shear strength $(R_f)$ increased with the aged time on the sands. The in situ range of Rf on the sands, which is applicable to the magnitude of earthquake in the Nak-dong River area, was proposed by using the test results.

  • Collected and analyzed the coastal processes at the estuary of Nak-Dong river and its near coastal area from the history of field measurements. Introduced a numerical model to predict three dimensional topographical change which are evaluated from the nearshore wave and the wave induced current fields for the objective area, and later it were related to the development of beach and shoals. With the comparison between measured and calculated, we found that the changes on the coastline and sand spit and bar development are induced not only by artificial forces due to the construction of river dike, but also by the strong impact of wave induced current. In future days, it is expected that coastline change and sand bar development at the lee side of Jinwoo-Deung and at the front of Dadae beach.

  • The purpose of this study was to establish the basic information for natural drainage capacity assessment in urban area. We sorted midium watershed of Han river and Nak-dong river, and selected 30 rainfall events during 1995 to 2000 according to high level of damage. The inundated area showed high watershed slope about 25% and it indicated the greatest damage around the watershed located in 200-300m of altitude. Besides, the great damage by inundation was occurred in the mountainous agriculture region, where the forest scale was high and the urbanization was being progressed gradually. However, inundated area was small in case of grassland, water tone such as riparian area, bare ground and wetland. Moreover, the inundated area was different according to river shape and characteristics of river distribution such as the density of the stream order, conservation constant of the river system, and the number of undulations in the watershed. Therefore, it showed that land use, river shape and distribution characteristics of stream influence on inundation.

  • In this paper a concept of the paradigm shift in the operations of Water and Wastewater systems regarding the production and usage of water was introduced. Based on this concept the interrelationships between the water quality in the upper basin of NakDong River relative to Busan and the degree of satisfaction of the customers on the water supply service in Busan were modeled using the System Dynamics modeling methodology. SamRangJin basin area was determined as the upper basin of Busan after analyzing the relationships between the water quality of MoolGeum water intake point and water quality data of various mid- and upper water intake points along NakDong River. The amount of contaminants generated in SamRangJin basin was modeled using the Gross Regional Domestic Product in the area and the treated amount was calculated using the efficiency of wastewater treatment and the degree of improvement of environmental condition per investment. The water quality at MoolGeum water intake point was modeled to take the effects of the remaining amount of contaminants after treatment and the non-point source contaminants in SamRangJin basin. Using the developed System Dynamics model the effects of the investment for the improvement of environmental condition in SamRangJin basin were compared to the case of alternate water source development for Busan in terms of the degree of satisfaction of the customers on the water supply service in Busan.
