백악기 경상분지의 생성 및 진화에 관여한 지구조운동의 분석과 최하부 낙동층에 대한 퇴적학적 연구 I: 경상분지 서남단 낙동층의 퇴적환경과 기원암, 고수류 분석 (Sedimentological Study of the Nakdong Formation to analyse the Forming and Evolving Tectonics of the Cretaceous Gyeongsang Basin, I: Depositional Setting, Source, and Paleocurrent Analyses of the Nakdong Formation in the Southwestern Gyeongsang Basin)

  • The lowest formation of the Cretaceous Gyeongsang Supergroup, the Nakdong Formation, unconformably overlies the gneiss complex basement in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do and Gwangyang, Chullanam-do. The Nakdong Formation of the study area is 500-600 m thick and occurs as a belt shape. Based upon lithology, sedimentary structure, and bedding geometry the formation consists of three conglomerate facies (Gd, Gn, Gic), five sandstone facies (Sh-n, Sh-i, Sp, Sr, Sm), and four mudstone facies (Mf, Mfn, Mc, Mv). Sandstone facies are the most prominent in the study area. The twelve facies can be grouped into five facies associations. The depositional settings are elucidated from analyses of 12 facies and five facies associations of the formation. The lower part of the Nakdong Formation was deposited in alluvial plain, and the middle and upper parts were in a riverine system. The lithologies of the Nakdong Formation of the Gyeongsang Basin have been considered to consist of generally conglomerates and pebbly sandstones that were accumulated in alluvial fans. But the common lithology of the study area is sandstone which was formed in lower part of alluvial fan or fluvial setting. It is supposed that the coarser sedimentary sequence distributed west to the study area should be eroded out after deposition and early uplift, and the finer sandstone sequence in the east remains behind. The mineral composition of sandstones and the clast composition of conglomerates indicate that the Nakdong Formation was derived mainly from the metamorphic source rocks. Some reworked intraclasts were also supplied from the intrabasinal sedimentary layers. Paleocurrent data collected from cross-beddings, ripple marks, asymmetric sand dune suggest that most sediments were transported from north to south during the Nakdong Formation time.

Thallites yabei (Kryshtofovich) Harris from the Lower Cretaceous Nakdong Formation of Sindong Group, Korea

  • In this study, fossil liverwort (Hepaticae) of Thallites yabei (Kryshtofovich) Harris is described based on the newly obtained material from the Lower Cretaceous Nakdong Formation of Sindong Group, Korea. The thalli of T. yabei is ribbon-like, bifurcating at least three or four times, and has a distinct midrib. Although the thalloid plants are herbaceous with little hard part, the thalli of T. yabei is relatively well preserved to show the sequentially bifurcating pattern in the specimens occurred in the same fossil locality. Such characteristics indicate that they were probably buried in situ. The abundant occurrence of thalli plants also indicate that land was covered densely by them as one of the terrestrial land plant members, and flourished under the tall arbor trees in the humid environment during the Early Cretaceous in the Gyeongsang Basin.

New occurrence of Cupressinocladus sp. from the Lower Cretaceous Jinju Formation, Shindong Group, Korea

  • Cupressinocladus sp. found from the upper part of the Jinju Formation of the Shindong Group, Korea is described here based on the newly found leafy shoots. This species is characterized by the branched leafy shoot with decussate scale leaves. The presence of Cupressinocladus in the Jinju Formation indicates that the Early Cretaceous flora-sites in Eastern Eurasia are in a close association with territories of the mixed-type floras. The finding of this species records the first report for the Nakdong flora.

낙동강변 실트질 모래의 수리전도도와 전기적 물성과의 관계 (A Relationship between Hydraulic Conductivity and Electrical Properties of Silty Sand on the Riverside of the Nakdong River)

  • Hydraulic conductivity is an important parameter, representing permeable property of the groundwater in aquifers, in the issues of groundwater development, groundwater contamination, and groundwater flow, etc. We estimated a relationship between hydraulic conductivity and electrical properties (formation factor, chargeability, and time constant) of silty sand in the laboratory. For this study, we conducted grain size analysis, constant head permeameter test, and measured electrical resistivity and spectral induced polarization of silty sand samples collected from the riverside alluvium of the Nakdong River in Nogok-ri area, Dasan-myeon, Goryeong-gun in Gyeongbook Province, Korea. In the laboratory test, we used soil samples of approximately uniform porosity with 0.5% error range, and kept the electrical resistivity of pore water with 100 ohm-m. As a result, the relationship between effective particle size and hydraulic conductivity agrees fairly well with the existing empirical formulas. Hydraulic conductivity was correlated with formation factor, chargeability, and time constant: hydraulic conductivity increased with increasing formation factor and time constant as well as with decreasing chargeability.

지질(地質)이 경북(慶北) 산림황폐(山林荒廢)에 미친 영향(影響) (The Effects of Geological Features on Forest Devastation in Kyungpook Province Area)

  • Forest devastation in Korea was caused by several factors such as internal factors from geological features and external factors from artificial forest damages including fuel wood collection from forests, forest fires, shifting cultivations and so on. According to the reports of 1935, lots of forest devastation in Kyungpook province area occurred around the main and branch stream of Nakdong river. Main factors of occurring forest devastation in 1935 were investigated by the methods of forest devastation rate and the population density at the basin of Nakdong river. But based on our study, forest devastation mainly occurred in rock zones of granite and granite gneiss, next to Nakdong formation but scarcely occurred in Hayang formation. Clay of the weathered soils of granite and granite gneiss was lost by rainfall, but remaining coarse-sandy soils(or grits) have poored conditions in vegetation's growth, which are due to high level of water permeability, lack of water-holding capacity and dried conditions. Generally, pine forests are mainly growing up in these regions. It is supposed that forest devastation was accelerated due to long periods of natural regeneration and no ability of natural regeneration by sprout after frequent collections of fuel wood and cuttings from pine forest on those grit areas. These results indicated that the high rate of forest devastation occurred around the basin with the high resident population density, which was partly due to forest damages by fuel collection. Moreover, both geological features and number of residents had much influence on forest devastation. Forest devastation was positively correlated with those variables(r=+0.73).

낙동강 하류의 정수처리 공정에서 pH, 오존 및 응집이 트리할로메탄 생성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of pH Control, Ozonation and Coagulation on THMs Formation in Dringking Water Treatment Process of the Downstream of Nakdong River)

  • 본 연구는 낙동강 하류원수를 정수처리하는 정수장에서 전염소 처리시 pH 조절, 오존처리, 응집이 THMs 생성에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위해 수행하였다. 원수의 pH를 낮추면 전염소 처리에 의해 THMs 생성이 저감되었다. pH를 9.5에서 9.0로 낮추면 THMs 생성이 18.3%, 9.0에서 8.0으로 낮추면 14%, 8.0에서 7.0으로 낮추면 7%, 9.5에서 8.0으로 낮추면 29% 감소되었다. 염소처리 전에 저농도의 오존($0.11{\sim}0.48mg{\cdot}O_3/DOC$)을 주입하면 오존을 주입하지 않은 경우에 비해 THMs 생성을 6~24% 정도 저감시킬 수 있었다. 전오존 1.0 mg/L을 주입한 원수에 염소 2.5 mg/L를 주입하고 alum 40 mg/L, 황산 6 mg/L를 주입한 경우 THMs 생성농도가 염소만 처리한 경우에 비해 42% 감소하였다. 정수처리공정에서 전오존 처리 후에 염소를 투입하고 응집이나, pH 조절을 하면 취수구에서 pH만 낮추는 경우에 비해 THMs 제어에 더 효과적이다. 염소 2.5 mg/L를 주입한 후 alume 40 mg/L 주입하여 응집실험을 한 결과, THMs 생성농도가 염소만 투입한 경우에 비해 pH 저하로 인해 19%, 천연 유기물질(NOM)의 제거로 18% 정도 저감되었다. 응집은 pH 저하와 유기물 제거를 동시에 유발하기 때문에 pH를 낮추는 경우에 비해 THMs 생성농도 저감에 효과적이었다.

낙동강 수계 중의 댐 건설에 의한 주변의 국지기상환경 변화 -II. 수치모델을 이용한 추정- (A change of local meteorological environment according to dam construction of Nakdong-River -II. Estimation using numerical model-)

  • This study was carried out for reading the change of local meteorological environment according to dam construction of Nakdong-river using numerical model. The study used PSU/NCAR Mesoscale Model version5(MM5) for inquiring effect of formation of artificial lake after dam construction. The colleague simulated temperature mixing ratio, latent heat flux and sensible heat flux in two cause of existing lake and not. Temperature and mixing ratio in southwest of Andong lake increased because of the air that was warm and moist above the lake moved to southwest due to the northeasterly wind. In the case of existing lake around Andong, latent heat flux increased much in the daytime after sunrise. However, sensible heat flux decreased but it didn't change distinctly in southwest of Andong like the other values.

낙동강 중류 유역의 단열계 특성 및 지하수계와의 관련성 (Characteristics of Joint Systems and Their Relationship with Groundwater System in the Nakdong River Mid-basin)

  • 낙동강 중류 지역(함안근, 창령군, 의령군)의 백악기 퇴적암의 단열계 특성(단열 방향성과 단열계 밀도도)을 파악하고, 단열과 단층, 수계 그리고 연구지역내 지하수공의 일일 사용량과의 관련성을 분석하였다. 단열계는 JI($N90^{\circ}-110^{\circ}E$), J2($N0^{\circ}-35^{\circ}E$), J3($N0^{\circ}-35^{\circ}W$)로 분류되며, 주로 남북방향과 동서방향 단열군의 방항성이 우세하다. 연구지역의 동편과 서편의 함안층 분포지역에서는 남북방향의 단열계가 우세한 반면에, 연구지역의 중간부분인 칠곡층 분포지역에서는 동서방향의 단열계기 우세하다. 이는 연구지역의 동편과 서편에 위치하는 북북동-남남서 방향의 단층계와 관련되는 것으로 보인다. 또한 낙동강 주변에서도 단열 밀도가 높게 나타나며, 이는 동서방향의 단열계가 낙동강과 연관됨을 암시한다. 한편, 연구지역내 지하수공의 일일 사용량과 단열 밀도 간에는 약한 양의 상관성을 보이며, 지하수 비양수량과 단열 밀도간에는 음의 상관성을 보인다. 이는 단열 밀도가 지하수 산출량을 결정하는 주요 요인이 될 수 없음을 지시한다.

음용 원수의 염소소독에 의한 소독부산물 생성패턴에 관한 연구 II (A Study on Formation Pattern of DBPs by Disinfection of Drinking Raw Water II)

  • 한강과 낙동강에서 채취한 원수에 염소소독제인 hypochlorite를 $10{\mu}g/mL$의 농도로 투여한 후 1시간 ~ 14일까지 TOC (total organic carbon), 잔류염소량 및 14종의 염소소독부산물 생성율을 조사하였다. 그 결과 TOC 및 탁도는 큰 차이가 없었으며 잔류염소량은 한강에서 투여 후 1시간 경과 시 $6{\mu}g/mL$ 이상에서 14일째에 $1.23{\mu}g/mL$으로 감소한 반면 낙동강의 경우 3일 이후 거의 존재하지 않았다. 7일 후 발생한 총 소독부산물의 농도는 한강의 경우 101.3 ng/mL (789.6 nM)이며 이 중 THMs (trihalomethanes)가 68%로 가장 큰 비중을 차지하였다. 그 외에 HAAs (haloacetic acids, 19%), chloral hydrate(10%)가 검출되었으며, 낙동강의 경우 총 소독부산물의 농도가 98.4 ng/mL (678.6 nM)이며 이 중 HAAs가 57%로 가장 큰 비중을 차지하였다. 그 외에 THMs (34%), HANs (haloacetonitriles, 5%) 및 chloropicrin등 질소화합물의 농도가 증가하였다. 이는 낙동강의 경우 한강에 비해 상대적으로 많이 포함된 암모니아성 질소가 소독제인 염소와 반응하여 클로라민을 생성함으로써 염소에 의한 소독효과와 클로라민에 의한 소독효과를 함께 나타내기 때문인 것으로 사료되며 전체적인 소독부산물들의 생성비율 경향을 살펴보면 소독제의 종류에 따라 소독부산물의 생성패턴에 차이가 있으나 산성도가 큰 HAAs의 초기 생성농도가 높고 점차 THMs의 생성속도가 증가하였다.

  • Sparker profiles and sediment cores collected from the Korea Strait show a distinct pattern of stacked prograding wedges consisting of three distinct units. These wedges are interpreted as the lowstand deposits formed during glacioeustatic sea-level lowstands. Repeated sea-level falls during late Pleistocene with high sediment discharge from the paleo-Nakdong River system resulted in the formation of thick lowstand wedges.
