  • The requirements for the next-generation propulsion system and for a good propellant have been summarized. The characteristics and effectiveness of kerosene, hydrogen, and methane, which are the fuels that are mainly attracting attention in Korea and abroad, were compared with each other. As a result of the comparison, methane was evaluated to be more advantageous than other fuels in reliability, cost, reusability, maintenance, eco-friendliness, safety, lifespan, technical difficulties, engine cycle selection, application of common bulkhead, and non-disassembly/reassembly delivery. And in terms of performance, the specific impulse of methane is higher than that of kerosene, so the efficiency of the launch vehicle can be increased. Methane's properties incluidng eco-friendliness, low-temperature combustion, long life, and maintenability make it beneficial for reuse and for the development of multi-purpose engines.

  • In general solid propulsion offers cost effective, large thrust capabilities comparing to the liquid propulsion which offers high specific impulse and restart capabilities. Therefore solid propulsion is well fitted for the first stage and boosters. BBL approach has been studied for the launch vehicle because of cost effectiveness, limited development time and low risk. Using of the carbon fiber epoxy resin in the solid rocket motor case is expanded, and specially high strength fibers are more attracted since its inert mass reduction.

  • The autogenous pressurization has been widely adopted for propulsion systems of next-generation reusable rockets due to its low cost and high reliability. The autogenous pressurization has a simple structure, but an understanding of the heat and mass transfer occurring inside the tank is essential. For this reason, a simulation test of the autogenous pressurization was conceived. The experiment equipment was constructed based on overseas pressurization test facilities cases and expert advice. Unlike the actual autogenous pressurization system, the propellant tank was insulated to exclude external influences. The pressurized gas supply line and the propellant pipe were separated. Using the manufactured autogenous pressure experiment equipment, it is possible to evaluate the condensation phenomenon of pressurants in cryogenic propellants, comparison of the efficiency of pressurization using helium and evaporated gas and the pressurization capacity according to the temperature of pressurant.

  • These days, satellite core technologies are being developed as a way to provide various information by considering simultaneously sending, wide area covering, highly precide, and anti-disaster technologies. Not only global positioning, and image but also space launcher, satellite bus, satellite payload, earth station are being convergently developed in a different technological field. Especially, it is required a lot of initial investing expenditure to provide the Earth observational information service based on the space technologies. Such a trend and change of satellite technologies Korea has realized the necessity for the domestic independent development of next generation earth observation satellites, and are preparing the profound items such as a detailed implementation plan for the efficient development project. Like the satellite advanced countries, it should be transparently carried out that an efficient implementation of the developing target related to the geostationary earth observation satellite development, establishment of technological auditing function and quality assurance system, implementation plan, progressing courses and results of the satellite development program by way of planning, evaluation and management. For these things cited above, it is necessary to operate systematically and continuously the professional structural system by the governmental department in order to control the geostationary earth observation satellite development project. Therefore, this study proposes a development project management improvement method of the Korea next generation geostationary earth observation satellite based on the development project management system of the domestic geostationary satellite system.

  • To acquire indigenous development abilities of a future space launcher, bi-propellant liquid rocket engines using environmentally clean propellants such as hydrogen peroxide and methane have been developed by Chungnam national university. The necessary development technologies for the future liquid rocket engines were defined and have been acquired step-by-step in advance by sub-scale liquid rocket engines. Core techniques of design/manufacture/experiments to develop a future prototype liquid rocket engine will be obtained by this study.

  • Low cost launch vehicle for next-generation is underway in advanced space countries such as the United States, Europe, Japan and China. This paper surveys the latest technological trends in avionics system, including ground management system. In the case of on-board equipment, to make short the development period and reduce the cost, the equipment is standardized and modularized for each functions to flexibly respond to changes in system requirements. In addition, a network is applied to all inter-equipment interfaces and a powerful self-diagnostic function is included in the equipment to realize automation/simplification of the interface with the ground system, and it is confirmed that an efficient launcher system is realized.
