  • In this paper, we propose an efficient integrated suppression algorithm based on combined power of acoustic echo and background noise. The proposed method combines the acoustic echo and noise power by the weighting parameter derived from the decision rule based on the estimated echo to noise power ratio. Therefore, in the proposed approach, the acoustic echo and noise signal are able to be reduced through only one suppression filter based on the estimated combined power. The proposed unified structure improves the problems of the residual echo and noise resulted from the conventional unified structure where the noise suppression (NS) operation is placed after the acoustic echo suppression (AES) algorithm or vice versa. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by the objective test under various environments and yields better results compared with the conventional scheme.

  • In this paper, we introduce a novel signal quality enhancement algorithm with a perceptual interference analysis and perceptual convolutional noise suppression. A perceptual convolutional noise is reflected in the audible disturbance that can still be recognized after the additional noise suppression and tonality change which is caused by the noise energy excitation. The enhancement system is organized with a perceptual additional noise suppression part and a perceptual convolutional noise suppression part. Experimental results show that these two parts have an equivalent quality enhancement performance.

  • The number of jet aircraft is increasing. The aircraft noise making people near airports nervous have become a serious social problem. The aircraft noise can be classified into two groups; noise being generated at take-off or landing and noise form run-up test on the ground. In this paper, we consider the aircraft noise from run-up test on the pound and we suggest the noise suppression system.

  • In this paper, we propose a efficient noise power estimation technique for an integrated acoustic echo and noise suppression system in a frequency domain. The proposed method uses speech absence probability (SAP) derived from the microphone input signal as the smoothing parameter updating noise power to reduce the noise power estimation error resulted from the distortions in the unified structure where the noise suppression (NS) operation is placed after the acoustic echo suppression (AES) algorithm. Therefore, in the proposed approach, the smoothing parameter based on SAP derived from the input signal instead of echo-suppressed signal should stop updating noise power estimates during the distorted noise spectrum periods. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by the objective test under various environments and yields better results compared with the conventional scheme.

  • The modified Wiener filtering method is proposed for effective noise suppression in edge region of images corrupted by additive white gaussian noise. Although the pixels classified as a edge region in the conventional Wiener filter have lots of noise components, the conventional Wiener filler cannot remove noise effectively due to the preserving of edges. To reduce noise well in edge region, we modify filter coefficients of the conventional Wiener filter The modified filter coefficients increase in noise suppression effect In edge region, while they preserve edges for strong edge region. From simulation $(256{\time}256$ size, 256 graylevel images) filtered images by the proposed method show much improved subjective image quality with some improved peak signal-to-noise ratio compared to those by the conventional Wiener filtering.

  • A new modified singular value decomposition method, piecewise polynomial truncated SVD (PPTSVD), which was originally developed to identify discontinuity of the earth's radial density function, has been used for large solvent peak suppression and noise elimination in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) signal processing. PPTSVD consists of two algorithms of truncated SVD (TSVD) and L₁ problems. In TSVD, some unwanted large solvent peaks and noise are suppressed with a certain soft threshold value, whereas signal and noise in raw data are resolved and eliminated in L₁ problems. These two algorithms were systematically programmed to produce high quality of NMR spectra, including a better solvent peak suppression with good spectral line shapes and better noise suppression with a higher signal to noise ratio value up to 27% spectral enhancement, which is applicable to multidimensional NMR data processing.

  • The impulse noise of bullet after shooting in small arms has an effect on the hearing ability of human. Although a silencer has been developed for noise reduction in small arms, there is only a few researches about relationships between the sound pressure level and the auditory sense of human. In this study, the quantitative sound pressure levels are revealed by experimental measurements of impulse noise with each silencer type. And the performance evaluation for noise suppression of a silencer in small arms is carried out to reduce a serious loss of the hearing ability of the small arms user. It is concluded that the evaluated results can be utilized for checking sound pressure and data accumulation for new small arms design with silencer.

  • This paper describes a compact printed helical resonator and its application to a microwave oscillator circuit implemented in coplanar waveguide(CPW) technology. The high Q-factor and spurious-free characteristic of the resonator contribute to the phase noise reduction and the harmonic suppression of the resulting oscillator circuit, respectively. The designed resonator resonating at the frequency of 5.5 GHz showed a loaded Q of 180 in a chip area of only 40 % of the corresponding miniaturized hairpin resonator without any spurious resonances. The fully planar oscillator incorporated with this resonator showed additional phase noise reduction of 10.5 dB at 1 MHz offset and a second harmonic suppression enhancement of 6 dB when compared to those of a conventional CPW oscillator without the planar helical resonator(PHR) structure.
