Encapsulation Method of OLED with Inorganic Multi-layered Thin Films Sealed with Flat Glass (평판 유리로 봉인된 다층 무기 박막을 갖는 OLED 봉지 방법)

  • To study encapsulation method for large-area organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), red emitting OLEDs were fabricated, on which LiF and Al were deposited as inorganic protective films. And then the OLED was attached to flat glass by printing method using epoxy. In case of direct coating of epoxy onto OLED by printing method, luminance and current efficiency were remarkably decreased because of the damage to the OLED by epoxy. In case of depositing LiF and Al as inorganic protective films and then coating of epoxy onto OLED, luminance and current efficiency were not changed. OLED lifetime was more increased through inorganic protective films between OLED and flat glass than that without any encapsulation (8.8 h), i.e., 47 (LiF/Al/epoxy/glass), 62 (LiF/Al/LiF/epoxy/glass), and 84 h (LiF/Al/Al/epoxy/glass). The characteristics of OLED encapsulated with inorganic protective films (attached to flat glass) showed the possibility of application of protective films.

  • With increasing demand for better FPD image quality, better evaluation metrics and advanced display quality measurement methods are required to meet these needs. There are many measurement methods to evaluate viewing angle of the various different display devices. However, these methods, which include luminance drop, color shift, and contrast ratio decrease, are imperfect considering that human perception does not completely correlate to these methods. In this paper, we propose a new method for measuring perceptual angle of FPDs considering human visual perception, which uses color space of the color appearance model.

  • In this paper, we propose and demonstrate an effective video advertising method for on-line shopping malls. For the Internet advertising, we make a mouse with a small OLED display that can communicate with PC's Internet network. Without displaying the teasing Pop-ups on the PC's monitor, the advertising for a shopping mall is directly sent to the OLED display on the mouse. Also, the proposed method has merits of sending the advertising based on customer's preference by using IP multicasting, which the customer can select an advertising category in advance. When the customer want to buy an item on the OLED display, the detail advertising can be immediately accessed through a Web browser on PC's monitor by pushing a special button on the mouse.

Electroluminescent Characteristics of Fluorescent OLED with Alternating Current Negative Voltage (교류 음 전압에 따른 형광 OLED의 전계 발광 특성)

  • To study the characteristics of AC driven OLED, we fabricated the fluorescent OLEDs and analyzed the electroluminescence characteristics of OLEDs with AC negative voltage. The luminance and the current density of the OLED decreased, and the number and size of the dark spots increased in proportion to the duration time and level of the applied AC negative voltage. The current efficiency of the OLED was improved when high AC negative voltage was applied within a short time. When the AC negative voltage of 10 V was applied for 1 minute, the efficiency was improved by 12.4%. Also, the degradation of luminance and current efficiency due to the duration of light emission was improved in the case of OLED applied for 1 minute with 10 V AC negative voltage. These are expected as a result of the improvement of the leakage current characteristics by eliminating the short-circuit region formed by the defect of the OLED at the AC negative high voltage. As a result, the continuous application of AC negative voltage reduced the luminance and the current density of OLED, but the temporary application of AC negative voltage with the proper time and voltage could improve the efficiency and lifetime of OLED.

Electroluminescence Characteristics of OLED by Full-Wave Rectification Alternating Current Driving Method (전파 정류 교류 구동 방식에 의한 OLED의 전계발광 특성)

  • Single OLED and tandem OLED was manufactured to analyze the electroluminescence characteristics of DC driving, AC driving, and full-wave rectification driving. The threshold voltage of OLED was the highest in DC driving, and the lowest in full-wave rectification driving due to an improvement of current injection characteristics. The luminance at a driving voltage lower than 10.5 V (8,534 cd/m2) of single OLED and 20 V (7,377 cd/m2) of a tandem OLED showed that the full-wave rectification drive is higher than that of DC drive. The luminous efficiency of OLED is higher in full-wave rectification driving than in DC driving at low voltage, but decrease at high voltage. The full-wave rectification power source may obtain higher current density, higher luminance, and higher current efficiency than the AC power source. In addition, it was confirmed that the characteristics of AC driving and full-wave rectification driving can be predicted from DC driving characteristics by comparing the measured values and calculated values of AC driving and full-wave rectification driving emission characteristics. From the above results, it can be seen that OLED lighting with improved electroluminescence characteristics compared to DC driving is possible using full-wave rectification driving and tandem OLED.

증착 조건에 따른 OLED의 캐패시턴스 변화 연구

  • OLED 소자 제작 과정에서는 증착 과정이 필요하다. 따라서 증착 과정에서의 변화도가 소자의 성능 및 수명에 큰 영향을 미친다. 이와 관련하여 소자 증착시 조건을 다르게 하여 OLED의 특성이 변함을 관찰하였다. OLED는 전자수송층, 정공수송층, 발광층과 이들을 중심으로 이들의 역할을 도와주는 보조층들로 이루어져 있다. 각각의 유기층들이 증착조건의 변화에 따라 어떤 변화가 있는지 캐패시턴스 측정을 통해 분석해 보았다. OLED에 전압을 걸고 측정한 캐피시턴스에 따라 구동 전압, 해당 전압에서의 변화 등을 분석하였다.

  • LCD를 극복할 수 있는 유일한 대안이 AM OLED라는 판단에 따라 일본업체들은 소형 AM OLED의 초기 생산체제에 돌입했다. 이에 비해 국내에서는 AM OLED 사업화의 필요성은 인정하고 있으나, 여전히 시장 지배력을 확보하고 있는 TFT LCD에 무게 중심을 두고 있어 AM OLED는 일본보다 사업화가 늦어질 것으로 보인다. 현재 세계 OLED 시장은 2006년에는 10억 달러, 2009년에는 20억 달러로 성장할 것으로 예상되는 등 2011년까지 연평균 30% 이상의 안정적인 성장세를 보일 것으로 전망된다. 이들 대부분은 중소형 모바일 제품에 탑재되는 것이다.

  • 차세대 조명 광원으로 각광받고 있는 OLED의 개발을 위하여 조명의 기본 요구조건을 충 하면서 OLED 특성을 효과적으로 적용, 홍보할 수 있는 방안이 필요하다. 특성 자체로만 놓고 보면 OLED조명은 경쟁 광원인 LED에 비하여 전력 효율이나 신뢰성 면에서 현재 열 인 것은 분명하다. 열세특성은 지속적인 재료와 소자구조의 개발을 통하여 극복해 나가고, 동시에 디자인 측면과 같은 우세특성과 더불어 저원가, 단순공정구조의 OLED 조명을 개발해 나간다면 OLED 조명도 조속한 시일 내에 LED와 더불어 차세대 광원으로서 분명히 중요한 위치를 차지할 수 있을 것이다.

A development of noise improvement dc-dc converter for PM OLED module

  • In this paper, analysis of a noise factor and an effective power strategy for the OLED dc-dc converter are described. One of the main reasons that one may not design the OLED power for dc-dc converter is that OLED's panel noise is composed of FFN(Frame Frequency Noise) and LFN(Line Frequency Noise). Into the bargain, FFN is caused by both the dc-dc (circuit) and driving circuit. It is hard to get rid of FFN, baeause FFN has very little results value for our ears. LFN is adjusted by analog compensation value. Actually, that is more important problem than FFN. It is known that voltage divider for OLED's mode variation is not good for compact power design. In the end, a circuit design for understanding OLED's noise and a novel muti-channel dc-dc converter were presented.

  • OLED 조명은 얇고 가볍고 열이 나지 않은 이점을 가질 뿐만 아니라 형광등 절반의 전력으로 같은 밝기가 구현 가능하여 저전력 조명기구가 가능하게 될 것이다. 또한 태양광에 가까운 균일한 면광원으로 부드러우면서 자연스러우면서 다양한 모양의 등 기구 제작이 가능한 차세대 조명이다. 본고에서는 OLED 조명의 발광원리와 특징, OLED의 고성능화를 위한 고효율 재료기술, 광추출 기술, 백색 OLED 기술, 봉지기술 등에 관하여 기술하였다. 또한 OLED 광원 산업체의 동향을 한국을 중심으로 일본업체, 대만/중국업체, 미국업체, 유럽업체 순으로 살펴보았다. OLED 조명은 2020년에 이론적인 발광 효율인 200lm/W가 구현이 되면 일상생활의 조명이 획기적으로 변화되는 사회를 맞을 것으로 기대되므로, 전 세계적으로 시장형성 초기단계이므로 선제적이고 전주기적인 지원을 통하여 시장선점 및 확대가 필요하다.
